Good to see y'all again! Here in The Netherlands it's wintery. A bit cold, not insane, not riding weather for me though. Also insurance policy agreement has a winterstop as mandatory which I might end up changing up at some point. Had some nice sunny days with temperatures around 40-50 F. Which is 4-10 degrees C.
Snowy and cold here in West Virginia. I would love that Florida weather most of the time but man, during hurricane season you guys take a beating. Stay safe!
It is so cool to see young ones learning to ride. I started later than your grandchild I was 12 riding minibikes that I built. Of course, at sixteen my first motorcycle was a 160 Ducati if I remember correctly. My wife and I do two up but it's great when we ride together. Don't get me wrong I dig riding with my buddies. Garage beer deck beer it's all good.
@UncleBogator I love mine too, a fair amount of customization done and it's probably my favorite of the 3 currently (my rebuilt road king might dethrone it soon though)
I like these videos but the title was never addressed in the video. I’ve been riding for 54 years and building Harley’s for 34 years I currently have 6 Harley’s, a Yamaha and a Kawasaki. I have done 2 chain conversions and now only have a belt on my very custom 2020 Fatboy. As soon as this belt breaks I will be doing a chain conversion and since I do 90% of my own work it will be FAR cheaper than having a shop replacing the belt and will be serviceable. I love belt primary drives cause you don’t have to take the entire primary side of the bike apart. Keep loving it and keep the rubber on the road!
My only real problem with a belt drive is if you are alone out in the middle of nowhere and you break a belt drive, it is trying to change it. I don't like doing it at home with my lift and toolbox, much less on the side of a highway. I'm 61 years old, and in that time, I've broken three chains and always keep a spare in my saddle bags. (And a couple of master-links) They are very easy to change by yourself almost anywhere. Luckily, the only time I've broken a belt, I was getting ready to leave my driveway. Cleaning and lubing a chain isn't that hard if you're not lazy. I have two shovelheads and two Evolutions. 1978 flh (chain) 1982 flt (chain) 1991 fxsts (belt) 1992 electra glide ultra classic. (Belt) And I'm considering changing the EVOS to chain final drive.
If you don't want to use blue loctite on those loosening bolts, toothpaste works, lasts a very long time and leaves it minty fresh ! Also when tightening chain/ belt, take it for a short ride, hands off the handlebars, and if it drifts to one side, adjust accordingly.
i've seen more than a few people tout chain drives but I don't understand why. It SEEMS to me (having never owned a bike with a chain drive) like a belt drive is easier to maintain than a chain.
I've been tempted to get a belt conversion for my RE Meteor. They want almost $500 for it, but replacing the chain and sprockets is going to be $150 ish. So... is it worth $350 not to have to clean and lube and clean up afterwards every 500 miles for a good 60000 miles? (Bike has 18000 on the original chain. I guess I am doing something right) 😎
@UncleBogator Damn! Had I not gotten rid of my old Chevy Conversion Van recently to fund the remainder of this damn ironhead rebuild, I'd have reached out with a trade offer!
Especially since I was trying to buy this bike from the previous owner before you snatched it up. The Ironhead that I ended up with that blew up on me is NEARLY finished and is going to be a stunner, but I'll be damned if I don't need a more reliable daily rider.
Doing a chain convo isn't needed unless you're making 100hp and want to have the snap to do stunts/drag racing. Otherwise, belts are quieter, cleaner, and WAY less maintiance.

I started at 14 in dirt bikes. I’m so glad he rides at 5
I agree with the title. Belt drive is so much nicer than a chain.
The bike had the chain when I got it. Was always curious about it. Now I know and I don’t care for it
It's cool seeing another fatbob on RUclips, even if only in the background!! Thought I was the only one 😂
Yeah we’ve done a couple videos on it. She loves it. They’re uncommon

Great video sir
Cheers brother

GARAGE BEERS!!! Be well brother, keep on truckin!
Just found you Sir, I have now subscribed👊🏻
Hey appreciate it
I hope you found the tight spot on the chain first if there was one. The typical spec is about 1/2" to 3/4" of play at the tight spot.
Only chain bikes I’ve ever had called for 1-1 1/4 play. I rotated it around and checked multiple places just not on camera
@@SaddleTrampTV oh those were all metics. Never had one on a Harley

You’re right about the chain being easier to change

Hey Uncle Bo, check out the bolts that hold the sprocket onto the hub. Looks like you are missing one!!
I’ll take a look!
@@BernieGordon as luck would have it I forgot to look and the rest of them came out today on a ride. Good eye

The only convincing argument is that you can change it without disassembling the primary

The swing arm on the meteor is better suited for chain.
Chains are not bad. They are infinitely better than a belt.
Suppose it depends on how people describe better
Dang brother, saw that you've got the Dyna for sale on Marketplace already? Finally fed up with it? Or just decided to go another direction?
We want an old van to play with.

Florida man!
You can certainly do all chain adjustments from a a paddock stand. Whoever says otherwise is ill-informed
lol Riding with Biden cracked me up, has a natural ring to it. Shoutout from westmonroe la.
Ha!
Cheers to a superb 2025 🍺
Superb

Amen
Be kes had chains over a hundred years. You can fix em on the road with handtools.
