- First use of the season for the Honda HS 720C single stage 187cc (GC190) snow blower. We had a major snow storm overnight with a foot of snow and some wind creating drifts. This Honda is a great machine! Is a Toro better? let me know in the comments below!

Three years in New England and my 720 has handled every storm so far. It’s way overbuilt for its intended purpose(less than 6 inches). However the heavy wet snow can be a pain. The chute clogs often and you have to muscle the machine forward. Good for small areas or places that don’t get much snow. Also, starts first pull every time.
mine doesn't start first pull. never did, but it runs well.
heavy wet snow is also a pain with a 2 stage.
@@GarryBurgessnot if you do the impeller mod. My 2 stage handles slush like a champ now and doesn’t clog up any more.

@@TheMattPfeifer you extend the impeller blades so that it closes the gap to the housing. Most people use pieces of rubber bolted to the ends of the impeller blades, I just went ahead and welded on 1” pieces of flat metal to each impeller blade. Just google it, there’s lots of videos on ‘snowblower impeller mod’.
It’s definitely pushing the snow, when it’s that deep, a bit of extra work, but clears right down to the pavement nicely I think
Takes a little longer when it’s super deep but it’ll throw snow as long as you keep feedin it and have somewhere to put it.

Just got this locally from Offerup, paid 450 cash. New sealed in box with all the wrapping still intact. Theres a snow storm going on as we speak right now in Chicago. Going to wait until tomorrow to really have the snow pile up. Can't wait to try out the Honda!
how is the snowblower?
@@xrpxtrariceplease2811 we had over 2 feet of snow here in Chicago and two major snow storms in the last month. This blower worked wonderfully! Cleaned my entire house and halfway down the block to help out neighbors. The next day I was able to clean up frozen snow and dug out our truck that was snowed in by the snow plows. Started right up with one pull each time. Best blower I've owned and I'm sure it'll last me for years.

You are very lucky to have the snowblower! My snowblower came in 3 days after the snowstorm and have to shovel my entire long driveway in 7 whole times in the 24 hrs. You must have beaten me to offer up. I have a ariens deluxe 24 but looking for a single stage too
Big mistake. It is easier on you and the machine if you clear with the storm. Same rule that applies to snowplowing. They say plow with the storm not after the storm. Much easier on your equipment. It will last so much longer. Doing it as he is will shorten the life of the belt considerably.
My Honda blower sat in garage idle for one yr and yesterday I used it.. Started with 1st pull... Amazing thing

I’ve seen a lot of people make this mistake… turn the fuel valve to ON 1st. There’s literally no sense in pulling the recoil cord before giving it about 20-30 seconds to fill the carburetor with gas. Sort of like not priming the engine before strying to start. If you have enough fuel in it a Honda engine will start on 1-pull
correct - amazing how long it takes to fill a little carb bowl.

Hey great video. I just picked up same machine last week, almost payed an extra hundred for the plug in option but then I realized its a Honda! I won't need to worry about plugging it in to start it, Hondas always starts on the first pull if not 2 the most, got to use it Christmas day for the first time.... man was I pleased with this little monster 9f a machine, did my driveway and walkway and patio much better then my 2 stage blower .... im in toronto ont. We got snow but compared to what you had ours was a dusting lol.... if you don't mind me asking , where are you located, that snow drift was killer, lol cute kids but be careful cause while i was doing my driveway some idiot left a bottle near my curb and let's just say the Honda shot that thing out like a speeding bullet.. have a great day
thanks Shawn. Calgary got a big dump with some wind last week. I agree no need to put an electric starter on a small engine like this.
in this kind of snow it would be good to get a nice 2 stage snowblower. if the snowfall you get is taller than the opening of the snowblower you need a bigger one p.s. the 2 stages are self propelled
snow like this maybe once per year here.

That's a really nice small machine! Honda does make some great equipment.
Today I picked up the HS720CC model which, in Canada, is the commercial version. Looking forward to our next dumping of snow
excellent - I wonder whats different with the commercial version.
@@gregs_garage the chute swivel and pitch are manual via a handle on the chute itself and the engine is different.
@@gregs_garage Just saw this, 11 months later lol. In Canada, the "CC" model has the GS190 engine with the steel lined cylinder instead of the GC190. All chute controls are manual vs the more convenient handles to adjust everything. THere might be some other differences but not sure what they are

that's awesome it can handle it, this is definitely on the borderline where a 2 stage is needed
I will never why people blow snow across the area already cleared. I always work in a way that I am blowing across the area to be cleared.

I'm going with Ariens pro 21 but wanted to see how these single stage blowers do with deeper snow
I only have 6 car driveway and no sidewalks so as much as I want a 2 stage beast I don't think I need it. And having 3 cars in the driveway a 2 stage may even be harder to use to work around the cars

Just grabbed an hs621 for under $100. I’ll be testing it against my 1332 track machine as soon as we get substantial snow. Can you go uphill with this machien?
Not sure about uphill. You kinda of have to push it along
I am using a second hand 720AS for the first time. The first try it wouldn't budge in the snow. It was like pushing a shovel. Then I learned on YT to lift the handle slightly to let the auger pull the machine through the snow. That worked on my smooth driveway and sidewalk, but I have a terrible time on uneven pavement and gravel. Starts and runs fine. Any tips??
I’ve found this machine doesn’t pull as well as some of the toros on uneven pavement. Gravel is for 2 stage blowers with adjustable snow shoes?
yeah I think this Honda is for nice suburban driveways and sidewalks.
Tip: time to blacktop your gravel too

Alot of guys say the wheels load up with snow and wont roll .Does that happen to you.

Does anyone see a benefit to the AC electric start model vs the AM recoil start model?
for reference, the model that the reviewer is using is the AM recoil starter
pull start is easier - one less thing to do. These are not hard to start

I think the carb had to fill up. At least we got the oil flowing from sitting.

Hey... Thanks for the video, that looks like an awesome machine. I assume that's the HS720AA Model, correct..? I'm actually looking to down size from my 2 stage Ariens Platinum, to the HS720. How do you like it so far...? would you recommend it...?
It’s the HS720C. 2018 model I think. Yes it’s great and I would recommend it. This Honda power equipment works so well and lasts forever. You get what you pay for.
@@gregs_garage Thanks for getting back to me. oh, I agree... I have a Honda Mower, Power Washer and Generator that are awesome. like I said, I have an Ariens Platinum SHO that I paid over $1500 for. Dont get me wrong, for the two time that I've used it, it works Great. Its just overkill for what I need in my area. I'm in the east coast, PA area and we really haven't been getting much snow over the last few years. I have it up for sale now, and I'm probably going to purchase that Honda HS720AA sometime in the next week or so. I honestly didn't realize they made a 720C model... maybe that was for 2018... I'll have to look it up. Keep up the good videos...!!
@@Rickgsx33 I think the 720C is a canadian model maybe? Looks identical to the 720AA. 190GC motor, etc. Maybe it just has french stickers all over it.
@@Rickgsx33 I get what you are thinking here… I did an analysis myself, with all the talk about Global Warming and always shovelling in the winter I’ve been thinking of getting a snowblower and leaning towards an Ariens, Toro or Honda 2-stage. Usually you can get away with a single-stage, but it’s just the hard end of the driveway snow mixed with ice that gets you.
I was thinking Toro Snowmaster too, good price point, better than a single stage at the heavy stuff. I’m in Canada and my area is surrounded by the Great Lakes so we get a lot of Lake effect snow. It’s often something a single-stage can handle but then again, so can a shovel or 2 and a lot cheaper.
It’s good excercise and unless it’s a lot of wet stuff, not a big deal. What I would buy the snowblower for would be the heavy stuff that grinds the city to a halt. So I researched this, you know what they say, these are not the winters of your childhood, or parents or grandparents childhood. Well… I’m calling that fake news.
The environment was really impacted by the use of coal in the 1800’s so much that we saw the amount of snow really drop. If we had snow like this now we would be calling it due to the warming effect. In the early 1900’s we started driving cars and polluting the air more and we saw a similar drop in the 30’s and 40’s. It took us until the 60’s to begin to go back to ‘Normal’. In 1932 for example only 47cm of snow over the entire year, that’s roungly 17”. We average about 200cm per year, or about 6-1/2 feet!
Lately, yes it seems like we are getting less sometimes, but we’re not. A good measurement for us is 30cm of snow on the ground, it doesn’t happen more than 2-3 times per year but it does happen. Believe me it’s coming… had it in 2018, 2015, 2014 and 2010. In fact 2010 was our worst storm since 1977. There’s different ways to look at it but what I’ve learned is expect the unexpected… all it takes is one storm and you’ll be wishing you had that 2-stage...
@@Rickgsx33 You should look at the Ariens Professional 21 SS. It has a couple features that the Honda does not like a shoot that rotates past 180 degrees and a spring assisted scraper bar. Price is about the same for both.
You will have carb issues down the line you might have gotten one with a bad carb!
why? yesterday I put gas in it and turned the fuel on and it leaked all over. the float needle may not be seated?
@@gregs_garage that usually be the problem once you fix that you should be ok! The carbs are kind of shitty but once you get pass that your good! And the carb will make gas shoot out when it’s bad or going bad!
@@elguapo8751 this one came from a Honda dealer. Gonna fix the carb leak and see how she starts. Maybe the older ones are better?

@@gregs_garage Agreed. You can get a huge monster for 1-2 big snows a year that is a PITA to manoeuvre quickly or something smaller, quicker and easy to manoeuvre that handles 85% of storms. Easier to store as well. Big ones don't do uneven interlock or wood decks either.
