For example a person with a bad childhood usually doesn't kill or anything like that but if they act out its bullying but that's about it, so it would make way more sense for William to have a good childhood and he just is psychopathic, aka, he lacks empathy. Many people have no empathy or are psychopathic but they just know they line between right and wrong and try to do the right thing, even if they don’t care.
