Just wanted to say danka for the 4 years of class. I flew into Berlin a few days ago and was able to ask for directions to the bus station all in German. Danka, Herr Antrim 🙏
I’m glad I saw this. I like to learn sentence and change words for different situations. This is exactly what I want to do. And the listening part. I try to just hear some of it and have to remember I don’t need to make out every single world yet.
I like the tip of focusing on the most important words. I have an auditory processing disorder so I already have experience using this technique as an English speaker. Now I can just adapt and apply that experience for German.
This is the video that I undoubtedly need the most as I want to travel around Deutschland and maybe have some coversations with the locals, VIELEN DANK, Herr Antrim!
From my experience so far, you really need massive input to get the vocabulary needed, just for the verbs alone. Here's one verb phrase I took note of while going through a B2 level audio (with text) from a YT video: den inneren Schweinehund überwinden, which I looked up and found it means: to conquer one's weaker self.
@hainsey6264 Currently going through the German translation of Antony Beevor's Berlin The Downfall 1945, I noted another interesting verb phrase "Luft machen", which l checked means "to give vent to" . But it's a long slog going through the book.
I kind of realized this around A2 that after some basic grammar, vocab might be most important. Though you won't be able to understand complex, poetic works this way lol
Es scheint daß ich die gleichen Tipps gefolgtt habe um deutsch besser sprechen oder verstehen zu können. For german I have trained my ears and brain to focus on the verbs and their expected places in sentences. (In inversions, in subordination patterns, and those lovely separated particles...) That in itself has allowed to break through, so to speak, die Berliner Mauer.
Lol I've been doing the opposite and I don't even try learning a word until I know it's parts like entschuldigung I had to write down first it's prefix ent and schulds base meaning ect, I assumed that if I couldn't visualize what a word is made up of I wouldn't be able to remember it's meaning
That is not a bad method. This video is specifically talking about making you more fluid and therefore fluent in your speech. If you learn a phrase instead of a single word, you can use the whole phrase in conversation, but only in the context you learned it. If you learn a single word and all of it's nuance, you can use that word in a variety of contexts. Both have their advantages. Beginners, however, (IMHO) are better served by learning phrases than single words. You can figure out the nuance later.
@MrLAntrim you are the sole reason I've been managing German studies without a teacher because of increasing costs. I don't know how I would get my certificate without your help so thanks for sticking by and providing. Cheers :)
I would think the reason you don't need to understand every word in your native language and still make sense of it is because you've heard that exact construction so many times you can probably assume what's next without hearing more than 2 words. I'm not sure if I have this intuition in German :( (Although the video is much appreciated and has wonderful tips!)
This is unrelated, but I was wondering whether I can watch the video "Master German Grammar in 2024 and Avoid Common Mistakes!" and use the workbook to practice the topics covered in the video without using the main book of the case system. In other words, is the main book specifically tailored towards the workbook, or is the video sufficient on its own to practice the workbook?
You can use the video with the workbook, but you are going to run into a variety of problems. First, I created the video before I finished the book. After I created the video I decided that certain topics needed to be grouped differently. This resulted in the video not having the same order as the book and workbook. Secondly, there are some topics that aren't covered in the video that are in the book. Or topics that aren't covered as deeply in the video as they are in the book. This may make some exercises in the workbook more difficult than it would be otherwise. You can use the timestamps in the video description to jump to the parts covered in the workbook and make the order match. It just isn't the ideal matchup.

You emailed on November 23 and I did not respond before you sent another email on November 25. I responded to that email within an hour of receiving it. My response included new download links in case you couldn't find the ones I already sent you on the day of your purchase. You sent another email this morning claiming fraud. Your email this morning was not in response to the email I sent, but rather to the thread you already started, which tells me you haven't seen my email. I have responded to you. Since you are a Gmail user, the most likely place you will find my emails is not the spam folder, but rather the promotions tab created automatically by Gmail. Unless you specifically tell it not to do that, my emails will continue to land there even if I am responding directly to you. Thank you for posting this here, as it may help you find the solution (and my emails) that I can't get to you via email.
@@MrLAntrim thanks! Appreciate the support. the apparent requirement to download an app and go to that other site was a bit confusing. BTW, I purchased a paper copy of "Mastering the German Case System" and it is excellent!
You are like the second channel ever that I started learning German with back then years ago. Your channel is a gem.
Thank you. I'm glad I could help.

Danka, Herr Antrim 🙏
That's awesome. So glad you got to use your German skills again and that you got to go back to Germany. I hope you had a good time.
I agree. We should learn with chunks, not with single words.
Words without context are useless. Context is everything when translating, so it stands to reason that you need context when learning too.

Exactly. I don't hear every word people say in English and I do just fine. 😂 I'm sure I can do the same with German (and I do).

That's a great idea. My wife is a speech pathologist and she has a bunch of tips like this that can be applied to second language learning.
Thanks Professor, your advise is pure Gold and works for All languages. First video I watch and I do not regret it. You are awesome.
Vielen dank! Das ist sehr hilfreich!
Das freut mich!

Or literally, overcome your inner pigdog. Which is far more colourful.

Herr Antrim, thank you so much for your videos. However I was not able to download the list if Verben. Würden Sie bitte das mit uns teilen? 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Herr Antrim hat ein neues Hemd gekauft. 😀
Ich habe nicht gedacht, dass jemand das merken würde. Ich mag dieses Hemd.

I had to slow down the playback speed of this video because it was too fast for me (even in English)!
I have to watch all videos on 1.5x or 1.75x speed or my brain gets bored while listening. 🤷♂️

Can i learn english If i'm mexican and i'm 30 years old 😢
It is never too late to learn a new language. Although the sentence you wrote looks pretty good for someone who is asking this question.
@@gesm392 ofc you can do it !!
Moin!

How to understand fast German? Getting reborn in Germany as a German is the only way to do it.
Maybe if I am good in this life, I will come back as a German next time around. 😂
