It is obvious that after Lucius becomes a Gladiator, he will hide who he really is. That is why he says that he does not remember where he was born and who his parents are.
Because after the death of Maximus, Lucius abandoned his previous life and titles and went into exile of his own accord. He settled in Numidia from where Juba, Maximus' black friend from the previous part, came from. There Lucius started a family, which he would most likely lose when the Roman army attacked Numidia. Therefore, Lucius is likely to want revenge on General Accacius
After Maximus and Commodus died, Lucius was clearly too young to rule but was heir to the throne. Lucilla is a woman and cannot rule. So whoever took the throne, probably tried to kill Lucilla and young Lucius. So they ran away from Rome and they probably get separated. Lucius grows up without his mother and ends up as a slave. He then gets trained as a soldier in a foreign country that is attacked by the Roman empire. Pedro Pascal is a Roman general who was leading the army in this attack and he was the one who kills Lucius' love interest. In the aftermath of this battle, Lucius meets a wealthy warlord (Denzel Washington) and convinces Lucius to become a Gladiator so he can get his revenge against Pedro Pascal. But Pedro is actually a half decent guy. The current emperor seems like he is another Commodus and demanded that Pedro do some f*cked up sh*t but Pedro says no - so Pedro ends up having to fight for his life like a Gladiator. Pedro and Lucius eventually have their 1vs1 - Pedro dies. Then the ending of the movie we have Denzel plotting to invade Rome which sets up Gladiator 3. There you go folks - that's the plot. Probably not 100% accurate but I think it will be pretty close. Gladiator did not need a sequel and this movie did not need to be made. That said, this movie will probably still be a 8/10 because Ridley is directing and you have an all-star cast.
The trailer music is not the soundtrack. A Kid Rock song was in the trailer in the original movie. Also, if you listen to Frank Ocean/Jay-Z's lyrics, they fit with the story.

If you're going to put modern music in a period piece trailer, it needs have appropriate lyrics AND be reimagined into a sound/feeling that suits that period. There are plenty of trailers that have done that to awesome effect, even with just "epic" versions of a song. This Thing of rap in trailers seems to be a trend. I'd guess if this trailer was made ten or even five years ago, the rap wouldn't have been in there. As it shouldn't be. Edited to add that while it's not a trailer, every single season of Bridgerton has turned modern pop music into setting-appropriate plucky string quartet pieces to immaculate effect. It often takes you a moment to realize oh, that's [song from the last ten years]'s melody. It can be done, and it can be done REALLY well no matter the setting or time period.
Just like. the crow 2024 nobody can replace Brandon Lee Same with gladiator 2 can't nobody replace Russell Crowe from the original gladiator but that's me I felt the same about Conan can't nobody replace Arnold sorry Jason Mamoa same thing with Troy nobody will replace brad pitt

And If you want Maximus moments then watch Gladiator I, not this film, this is another film.
