I worked for Sears 41 years. 3months in toys 3 years in paint and the rest in automotive. All but a year or so I was in some form of management. Some great times some bad times. Over all it was good

That's a darn shame. I used to love Sears. I gave up my Sears credit card when they kept calling me at dinner time to sell me insurance.

I worked there for 7 years. It was my first job and for the first 6 years I thought it would be my only employer for life. This great American company that was a shining example of a once strong middle class was something I was very proud of. I thought I would grow and end up working in Hoffmann Estates. Then the Lampert deal with Kmart happened. Within a year the writing was already on the walls. I was thankful to visit the Greensboro store just a few weeks before they announced it was closing. It felt like going to a funeral. It’s unbelievable how the greed of one man destroyed such an amazing piece of America.

I remember working at Sears in 1986. When I left to take a job in computer programming, the manager called me in his office and said "Kevin, I really hate to see you go. You are a young man with a bright future at Sears. Sears has been around much longer than computers and will be here long after the computer fad goes away. Are you sure you want to leave?"

I can definitely see how he would have thought that. But I’m sure you’re happy you took off from there and went down the path you did. Definitely an awesome story! I wonder if your manager remembers that and thinks about how you made the right choice.

@@BryanLankston Funny thing is, after only a few months of working with computers I found that I truly hated it. No human interaction.... just the green or amber glow of a monitor. A year later I started my own business and have been self employed since.

I went to one in Newburgh, NY last year (May of 2022) and it was depressing. It closed a few months later, in September or October.
