I'll take a Christian who can't quote scripture but has taken every teaching of Jesus to heart over those who call themselves Christian and can quote the Bible backwards and forwards but treat the non-believers they come across as just another number that needs to be indoctrinated into their denomination. The sad thing is that biblically, Jesus warned against that. That's why we have the Pharisees and Saducees as cautionary tales, and also the parables of the wedding night when some people were caught napping and the door gets shut on them, and they get told that God doesn't know them. Some people need to learn that there is no such thing as being an asshole in the name of Christ.
I've always been "pick of the litter" in my family because I listened and did I was told. When I git older and started reading about religion and philosophy and now have a clearer idea of what's real and the truth, they want nothing to do with me and I'm fine with that. I'm not very religious but this one gave me chills. I was raised by a long line of reverends and preachers, I heard the words of God daily. He truly said alot of hard felt facts religious or not. The Bible has many valuable words and morals if you actually read, don't over analyze simple words. My favorite passage is when Jesus is on the cross with the two criminals. That's powerful.

I know what your saying about studying etc. I think that is part of the reason ppl have pulled away from the church... they didn't do their own work and just relied on the sermons and what they were told and didnt foster a personal relationship with God so the words they heard felt hollow. They didn't think about what it meant to them personally. I'm seeing a resurgence of ppl looking into religion on their own and thirsting for understanding. They aren't just taking what others say for granted. Things like that give me hope.

There is a difference between religion and spirituality. Spirituality is my relationship with God. Religion is just man's attempt to regulate it. For example, I believe that the Bible is true. But, I don't believe that it is the whole story. 'Religious men' decided what they wanted us to see, or not see. That's why I'm going to search for the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.
