Not hard as a free 2 play game. But you need to have a constant flow of players and influx of money especially with their "planned content roadmap" when they want to keep that up. And CoD players are known to shout "We want another company make a CoD game" same for the BF players. And when someone makes it they play it for 2 weeks and just go back to their respective games aka BF or CoD. @@hawkshot867

All it seemingly needed was more guns, maps, and a few bugfixes and it would have been a decent launch.

I was looking forward to your take on this Fry but I have to say I was a little disappointed you didn’t go deeper into the tweets. You mentioned that something else must be happening behind the scenes for these critical issue delays. Mark responded to a tweet about how the game lost its hype and should’ve dropped back in October.
His response, “Even if you couldn't party up with friends?
Even if the netcode crumbled under scaling from the number of players. Even if you were running around with a bunch of invisible people shooting you. Even if you felt like you were constantly hitching?

Seems like Ubisoft had Rubin come out to dispel the rumors when Tom is usually on point. So, clearly the issue is Ubisoft being too involved when before the devs were very open with changes and deadlines. But, if the release date is pushed back due to changes order by the higher ups, that isn’t exactly a good excuse to give the fans. I’m guessing that’s why it’s been quiet. Maybe it could be the fact that it's a Ubisoft product being developed as a free to play title???? I can't imagine one of the most insufferably greedy publishers being too thrilled about releasing a completely new IP for free, regardless of monitization model. It's become very clear over the last 10 or so years that Ubisoft aren't confident in their own developers, so I wouldn't be surprised if the certification issues are due to Ubi being a trash company, and the so called "tech issues" they're experiencing are just a cover for Ubisoft being reluctant to proceed with the project. Mark actually touched on the tech issues and why it happened after it all seemed good - player scaling in the last playtest revealed structural issues in the netcode that, if scaled to a full player base, would cause major issues in the fundamental game systems (he mentions invisible enemies, constant hitching, and inability to party with friends), and these issues had gone unnoticed during small-scale testing because there wasn't as much strain on the servers. These issues actually revealed major structural problems in their netcode that called for overhauls of some of their systems. A lot of the netcode issues apparently lied in the anti-cheat system they were using

It's kinda like with FIFA/MADDEN/NBA2K in sport games, nobody really likes those but we keep rather playing those than new ones. So CoD, Fortnite and Apex gonna be here for a long while. "The communication and transparency was just a marketing ploy" is not a fair take. The communication had been decent from Mark and the company only until 6 months ago when the finished game became on the verge, and they were working on final major bugs (which they still are). Mark had said several times that the messages from him to the community and the questions they asked were all repetitive and being answered on a continuous cycle. There had been no new information to give and he was getting tired of giving the same information, and the people would obviously rage every time he would say "I cant say when the game will be released/We are still fixing game bugs and don't know when we'll be done." Besides that it is common knowledge that no matter what release we are talking here (movie, game, tv-show etc.) the closer to release or product completion, the less information is exposed about it.
For almost 2 years they had solid communication until the late stages, now it's "it was all a ploy"? Anyone saying that has definitely not been following this game's updates.

I’m completely over it. If the game launched in a few weeks, I’m not sure if I even would play it. Considering I’m having a really good time again with rainbow six and once a month I go back to search & destroy mode on call of duty. I’m also looking forward to other shooters like gray zone, Delta force.

BigFry, I gotta ask... why do you find it so hard to believe that they're having a ton of technical issues?
Each new release Call of Duty somehow manages to have major issues with their party system along with game crashing bugs galore. They're one of the largest publishers and have near limitless resources, and even they fail to get it right.
We've witnessed the downfall of studio after studio, game after game in the online pvp space over the years.
There are zero other studios who have even remotely tried to make an fps that comes close to feeling like or "competing" with COD on any level.
To me, it's obvious that it's EXTREMELY difficult (basically impossible if we look at the lack of games) to make a solid and functional first person online shooter (that is multiplatform). I have no issue believing Rubin that they're having tons of problems, even if they were close to releasing at one point.
If anything, they caught the issues and understood that it would kill the game if they released it in the state it was in. Which I get, people are upset and don't want to wait because the game seemed to be okay, but they'd rather lose a few people in the long run then be dead on arrival.
    Just my 2 cents.

I personally think it’s the same concept/issue as they had with R6 Extraction. The license was probably expiring on some of these properties (Tom Clancy) and they were required to push out SOMETHING to prove that they were actively making new games with the IP so they didn’t get the rights yanked.
Could totally be off base but that’s the only real/believable reason that they released and dumped Extraction after about 3-4 months of support; to prove that they were actively using and creating something new with the IP, which they wouldn’t have had to do if they hadn’t BOLDLY made the promise of “supporting R6 Siege for 10 years”.

Never heard of the game and I'm not much of a PVP/FPS player but with the little experience I do have in indie development. If they submitted the game and it was declined and now they are having major system over hauls that is not changing the actual game play... It sounds like something to do with the server side of the game. It could be they did not meet certain requirements for data encryption for users, could have something to do with the system they used to push out updates after release did not meet those console requirements it could be an endless number of things. Now I've never submitted a game to a console company but I have to an app store and the amount of hoops you have to jump through is nuts, I think I had to resubmit like 10 times before I had finally met every requirement. Buttt... this is a triple AAA studio with very talented developers so its hard to believe they made that big of a mistake during development that they have to completely overhaul a system, so I'm intrigued to hopefully hear what the final result is.

The gaming community gets irritated when half baked games get released, but irritated when games get delayed.
What's the alternative boys and gals? I think studios should only market when they're confident to give a release date.

Rubin goes from saying it was a technical issue right before launch in one tweet to infrastructure and system overhauls in the very next one. Just come out and tell us the full game wasn't done yet, fuck. Makes me think that the big Whigs really were continuously requesting feature additions to compete against CoD.
If it was just buggy the game would have already released. Plenty of AAA and AA titles have released the last few years (thanks Cyberpunk for cementing that trend) in a shitty technical and playable state and still made millions before any patch went live.

It’s really interesting to see that every AAA company doesn’t care about product quality, not a single triple a studio cares about the effort that goes into their games… maybe rockstar is the only exception but even then they milked gta5 just because they know they didn’t have to make another game for how many years?

  • @jvydxn

I worried that if the game doesn't drop soon, like within the next 2-3 months the game might flop because of competition with other games. We need the game to come out during the downtime of other popular games so it can have its own spotlight. If they release it too late it's going to have to compete with Treyarch's next game which is said to have the longest dev time out of any cod, so this one could be big. Then there rumors that Fortnite OG is coming back near the end of the year, and based off the last time it was one of the most played games during the entire month. All this time they have spent doing "bug fixes" has drastically dropped the hype and anticipations for the game and they are going to have to build all that up again to get it back on ppls radars.

My theory is that they probably added a 120fps mode for console or they made a very small balance change that broke the whole build during certification so they delayed their certification and they’ve been adding more features to the game since then

its so funny because for like the past 10 years theres always a few fps games that claim to be COD killers and yet COD is very much thriving despite the issues activison is going through right now. because while activison is currently at it is lowest, its other competitors like bf2042 is even lower.

XDefiant looked decent when it was announced, i didn't care for CoD these days so it was attractive to me that someone made a competitor in the field. However i think XDefiant is a bit like the battle royales of yesteryear, a trend chasing game doomed to fail once the novelty runs dry. Perhaps Ubi realized this and that is why they chose to change things around to try and save the project's longevity. Just a theory on the matter but it would check out... a shame though, i doubt we will see the game we saw way back then i think we will see major changes in the product once it releases.

I'm not "hyped for it" specifically, but I do want to see it come out and be able to play it. I enjoyed the beta + free to play and no sbmm in casual is good.
Also being free to play, I'm hoping some of my console owning friends will get it so I can play it with them. Right now they only play COD, which has become a rubbish game series, and with SBMM they don't want to play with me anyway because they'll get destroyed lol.
