I took the Inaugural The Canadian Via Rail train in September 1976 when I moved from Edmonton to Kingston to attend Queens University. I had a roomette and loved it. Spent most of my days in the Observation Car looking at the scenery. I walked the whole length of the train, right to the final car where Otto Lang, the Minister of Transportation had taken over the car.
Nice vid. How I wish VIA Rail would bring back The Atlantic, which traversed Maine en route to Montreal. I live in Maine, and there is no direct way to get to Canada with public transportation. It's a disgrace. Living in Maine, one would never know that there's another, immense nation on our border.
We did this trip in June to Montreal and thoroughly enjoyed it ! The sleeper cars are getting rather old and shabby but we loved it. The food was also quite impressive too. If we ever do it again, we will pack a very small bag for onboard and check the bigger suitcases because there is not a lot of room in those cabins, especially once the beds come down. Cannot fault the staff on board, all were wonderfully friendly and super attentive. Loved this train ride ❤
Glad you got to take the Ocean! Unfortunately, unlike on the Canadian, the meals are reheated, so not quite the same gourmet touch. Still would love to do it sometime!
Enjoyed watching your video of your experience on THE OCEAN Via Rail train. I am taking the train next week. Any tips on connecting from Montreal to Toronto at the station? It’s been a few years since I was on this train journey so forget how busy Montreal might be. Looking forward to my trip and now will check out the Sleeper car prices.
Train is criminally expensive in Canada! It cost twice more to take train than fuel your car. Cornwall to Kingston is less than 200km you pay average of 160 CAD if you drive maybe 50CAD worth of gas .
I have taken The Ocean many times in first class. Luxury? No, not really. Oh and your title image is totally fake, as you will not see much ocean on The Ocean.

It’s like stepping back in time! Lovely ride. Your lunch looked okay. Supper looked rather weird. Glad you slept well. Seems like it was a nice trip.

Your expectations are way ridiculous...and comparing to Hong Kong just discredits your shoddy report even further waste of internet

It is an old train from the 1950s that is decrepit.
