Been growing Bananas and Pineapple s here in South New Jersey. Wanted to try Coconut Palm outside during summer then in a green house. Do Coconut tree out grow containers or do they grow to containers like Banana plants do? Cause I would love to try an grow a like 6-10 ft tall one in a 30 gallon pot

So I recently bought a semi green/brown coconut it’s kind of small and I was wondering if white coconuts are able to germinate or not.

I find black seeds beneath one of my palms, and I want to know if they are viable and worth my time...
The palm trees produce a large branch of yellow flowers, that later become black seeds that look kind of like black eyed peas in their shape...I am wondering if these are failed fruits or viable seeds that eill produce trees.
The row of palms has one tree with a single coconut...( I live on the gulf islands in Canada, where we rarely see snow and have many tropical trees like aributus and monkey puzzle as well as many types of date palms, olives, ginseng and ginger...
I would take a picture and add it but utube doesn't have that feature ( that I am aware of...)
IF by chance they are viable seeds, could you do a video on how to germinate them? Thanks 😊

How often should the coconut palm be watered as the leaves are looking a bit wilted the soil I have it in is moist but I’m new to growing coconuts and there is not much information on watering 🤔

How long do you float them?

@@Xray.71 until they germinate, it could be over a month.

So if I have sandbags with actual beach sand in them can I lay them on their sides, slice them open and set the coconut right on top of them?

For coconuts, it doesn't have to be much, maybe 30%. I don't feed Coconuts at all, but I will water them a couple days a week in the dry season.

no feeding at all! man.. im in a situation where i dont no if im over watering or dont have enough nitrogen, by the sounds of that i must be over watering.. how does it grow without nutrients tho? is the 30 percent compost or somethin and is it that that feeds it? cheers man@@TheCfkingfish

Where do you get your coconut in the husk?

    • @TheCfkingfish
      @TheCfkingfish  6 лет назад

I tend to get them from a collection on an island nearby that a client owns, very convenient. :)

Can coconut trees grow in California?

I have seen a couple survive, but you need very ideal conditions. I may do a vlog on this subject.

Hi Christian, is there any way you can send me a coconut in the husk? I do not have access to them as I live in Upstate New York but I keep many Tropicals and a few Palm species and I am looking to grow my collection.

Let me see what I can do. It is harder than you would think as most seed pods are trimmed around here in public places.

Instead of doing a coconut palm I am actually looking for bismarckia nobilis seeds. Would you happen to have some?

Go to any Indian /Asian store. They sell coconuts with husk on.

Jonathan , its far to cold in NY , one frost will destroy your coconut tree.
