I can't wait to start my build . It's been 5 years to the month since I took your course . But now the moon and stars are coming into alinement . And yes I'm the one in your online course with the big bushy beard . I'v been tryin to get out there to visit , but life seams to have other plans for me .
Thank you so much for watching! We have found that installing the gypsum before the SIPs allows for far less taping and mudding. It also allows the timbers to naturally move without a gap opening up between where the gypsum would butt up against them.
Unfortunately we do not. Our full scope of work is what you see in this series. Generally our clients work with a GC we recommend or they choose to complete all of the finishing work. We would love to partner with a GC to capture everything at some point!
Hey’s another great video. My question is “are the sips skinned with just drywall (ceiling side)or is it drywall/osb on the underside?” Looking forward to seeing you in January 👍
The roof SIP’s have gypsum laminated to the bottom of them! Our rafters are all 4’ on center so the seams die behind the rafter minimizing taping and mudding on the ceiling!
Very cool! One of the things we look to avoid in our builds is thermal bridging, essentially a short circuit in the insulation envelope. We have a video about thermal bridging we posted a few months ago!
I cannot wait to attend your 3 week course next month. These videos continue to fascinate me. And the videography/editing has continued to improve with each and every episode.
You knocked out of the park. Nice job.
Thank you Gary!
An efficient home for decades to come!
Indeed, generations to come!
Just love it ! ❤❤❤ And I love that you guys share your skills with others so we can be, not only builders, but craftsmen too.
Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching our content!

Thanks for watching William!

Great videoo! It would be very interesting to see the house once it is completely done.
We will definitely work to get a finished walk through filmed on all of the build series from now on! It is great to see the finished product

Professional
Thank you! 🙌
In the Netherlands we pre-install the electrical wiring in the walls and then install the walls.
How are the sockets made on the outside wall here?
There are wire chases in the SIPs that all the electrical is run through on exterior walls!
Tighten panels each to others usually use turn buckles 🎉 - more easy and precise 😂
Thanks for watching Sergey!
How many times have hooks pulled out of the panels?
Thank you for watching George!
Sick stuff! Is Ethan an architect?
Thank you! Ethan is not an architect, he is our lead designer!
@@ShelterInstitute nice! Is an architect needed in your design process at all?
How do I signed up for the courses

Why gypsum?
That is the interior finish that will be taped, mudded, primed and painted!
@ShelterInstitute
What about cement boards outside instead of gypsum drywall?
Then fill inside with drywall to plaster corners and paint?
@@ShelterInstitute
What about fire resistance of those SIP panels with ridgid foam inside?
Japanese builders have a similar idea, but the way they attach the insulation is different: ruclips.net/video/ERKacPAYtOE/видео.html
