I noticed when you sped it up you used 1,2,4 for the 5fret spreads. That is how I would do it but you showed it wrong slowly how the fuck do you expect beginners to keep up with you. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Duh method lol
I don't now many Guitarists that use 134 for full tone stretches ... could you explain your reasoning for this? Thanks
I've been playing this scale for 4 years I've never thought of ut like this. More impressed than I expected; my applause once again Matt 👐
There's also 3 different kinds of minors where you have the natural, melodic, and harmonic. Very similar but they can be useful to know the difference.
@@jowildcat40harmonic is elegantly intimidsting and I love it. I think melodic minor is mainly used in jazz, right?
Dude, I literally have gotten so much better at guitar since stumbling across your videos, thanks for helping me sound like I know what I’m doing 😂
I’ve been watching these shorts about guitar playing on and off for Over a year.
I appreciate yours greatly. You were humble and clear and kind and clearly want the best for us.
I never get the impression you’re trying to convince us how cool you are or cultivate some kind of persona.
Thank you.
You make it so understandable!! TY👍🏻
great way to visualize it.
I'm finally progressing faster than ever after 10 years of playing and attempting to teach myself.
Thank you very much.
Get TrueFire. Trust me. Free 14 day trial. trust this.
Good job! I've been trying to figure out the guitar since the age of 20. I'm now 52 and am dedicating more time to the instrument. It's tough getting past those stagnant periods of time.
@@honkingdonk3981 You def. need to join TrueFire. Too many great lessons in there. It's on sale right now. I can recommend some courses if needed. Let me know what you want to learn- or what you like. It's a game changer. I was in the same boat- playing forever- bands, etc. but repeating the same things. YTube vids are too random. You need structured courses. They also offer a 14 day money back thing. Very well worth it.
Great demonstration & explanation. A+
The way I see it,depending on where you start you get two of shape 1,3 of shape two and then two of shape 3,then you go back to shape 1.
That’s a bit garbled but try this.Try starting on low E with 1 shape 2,next on the a string use a shape 2,your d will be a shape 3,your g another shape 3.your next two will be both shape 1(moved up a fret due to the b string),if you had a 7 string your next shape would be a shape 2.
If you start lowE with 3 shape two E thru D,you then play 2 shape 1 on g and B sttings(with 1 fret shift for b string)and finish with a shape 1 on the high E.
Wherever you are, going up theres 3 shape 2 followed by 2 shape 3 followed by 2 shape 1 and then after that to shape 2. That pattern always follows.
You can start anywhere in the pattern on any given string as long as you follow the pattern.
Yeah, it was a bit garbled.
thanks Matt!
Another great vid, thanks for your knowledge
Perfect little lesson.
Thank you sir🫡🤙
As a further along guitarist. This actually put something together for me mentally. Thank You so much for the content. Different better ways to hit the same notes👌🏽
You make it easier brother, thank you so much 💯🔥
F'ing Awesome!
Thanks!
This is really helpful. Thank you
You have a comfort attitude like it's fun! Great attitude to teaching! Thank you and cheers. MIDI-G.
Thanks a lot ❤
I’m lovin your posts
Been playing that for years the wrong way thank you dmfor this 🙏
There's no "wrong way", as long as you're hitting the notes you want to hit! 🪗🎸🎹🎺🎻🪕
thanks man🎉❤
I do this everyday in my practice routine it helps you get faster so quickly
In otherwords the aeolian mode
Even easier, just view it as the C Major Scale played from the A ( the 6th) note.
Disagree. A minor and C major have the same notes but different homes. Thinking of a minor as a cmajor will lead to resolutions to c instead of aminor which is not what you are going for. Subtle but different.
Great Tip
Glad it was helpful! 😁🤘
Amazeballs!!!
I’m super envious of people with a long pinky finger.
I likey!
❤❤❤❤nice one bro
Love the quick videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
You rock
The guitar solo in Green Corn by NOFX 😅
Cool
Natural minor ??
Gonna try it now lol
OMG! Thank you so much!
Great vid. 3-note per string is the way I teach both major and minor because they both apply to the same pattern by simply moving your root position.
so I shouldn't be practicing 2 note per string A-minor scale?
This guy is very cool
you are write that is how that minor was desined 2000 pluss years ago i dd no it but when you explaned this it came to my mind like wow factor 100%..RocknRollFlat5
If you know the Aeolian mode aka Natural Minor scale (important to learn), then you already know it. Still, you may not have played it in exactly this same order. He is just mixing two shapes. In CAGED, first shape is E shape of A. Then it goes into the G shape. Or, shape 1 going into shape 2. Some teach it as shape 2 going into 3. I call shape 1 where the root is on the top, thick E string and ascending from there. It's easier for me to remember that way. Learn all your scales first. Major and Minor Penta. Blues scale, Natural Minor or Aeolian which is just like a Minor Penta with only 2 extra named notes.
Legit
what editor did u use to edit the thumbnails on your videos ??? i like the vid Matt. 👍👍😁😁
Fun Fun Fun, 😎till daddy took the T-Bird away🎶
Isnt this the Aeolian Natural minor mode?
What kind of guitar is that?
Thank you so much for your posts, they helped me tremendously. Have you ever had the thought of starting your own guitar academy
Maybe one day! For now it’s private lessons But thanks so much!
If you know your alphabet, you can play a minor scale.
The guitar part in Arctic Monkeys ‘505’ is based on A B C’s
Always good clous. I like your Videos. Have you a yt channel or guitar Lesson??
I find it easier to play it (From String 6 to 1st string decending:)
A-BC
D-EF
G-A
BC-D
EF-G
A-BC
which is how I always saw others do it... until now 😅
It fits better with the other shapes to make the scale stretch over the whole fretboard later on.
but I will try this to see if it's actually easier/ gives me new ideas
Why do so many teachers say use your 2nd finger not your middle on the wide stretch 3np?
Because pinky and ring finger are connected to the same tendon. It’s harder to stretch them independently. So I’d always recommend stretching between 1 and 2 rather than stretching between 3 and 4
I’m sitting completely straight with the guitar angled correctly and my wrist feels like it needs to completely bend to hit that 4 finger string
Bro, if you lived next door, I would mow your grass for these lessons.
I love these videos. It would be pretty dope if you called out the intervals too. Probably help the intermediate player as well as the noobs. Although that may drive away some of the beginners or make the video too long. Idk. Just seems like saying “root, second, flat third” is more helpful than the calling out the number of the finger you’re using or fret number. We can see that part.
How about scales using two notes on the top and bottom strings and three on all of the others. Sweep picking scales.
I don't now many Guitarists that use 134 for full tone stretches ... could you explain your reasoning for this?
this is a movable shape and can be played on any note?
I'm not sure if I can apply this fingering at my age but this sure is a good and informative video.
You don't have to hit 18 to be able to finger😂.
Are you 7 months old, and your iddy biddy fingers struggle to hold a binkie?😂
Tip: move slowly with concerted attention to what each muscle in hand must do to achieve desired sound. If you think you're going slow enough, slow down. Take frequent breaks to stretch and rest. Muscle memory takes over after a few sessions described above. Above all--remain persistent.
Thanks for the encouragement and for the smug comment.
@Larrymh07 More toung-in-cheek, but I recognize the smug value. All in good humor, my friend.
@@joeyorozco3691 Ah, thank you! My original meaning was that I'm kinda old and relearning the 3 note per string doesn't come easy for me.
so does this only work with a minor scale? or will this formula work on any scale ?
Guitarist xnd their. Safety net. Delays fx. Crack me up
The A minor scale or a minor scale?
I propose another potentially easier way that's based on 1 shape. Play that 1 - 3 - 4 fingering from A. Do it again symmetrically on the next string as before *but* this time slide your pinky finger 2 frets up. Move to the next string. Repeat.
What do you mean by 1 3 4 ???
C major goes with that
3nps is the easiest way for me
Agree! Allows economy picking too!
@Jamie Loy I found that I can learn the patterns easier for all the scales all over the neck
How to box yourself in.
Can you show us another way to play it?
Joe I thought you would like this hahaha
So Am scale is A-B-C-D-E-F-G which makes sense as the relative minor of C major
A-BC
D-EF
G-A-B
C-D-E
F-G-A
BC-A
as you played them
Diatonically speaking yes but would this work in say an Am Blues progression? I'll likely test this before you reply, but I am curious. For that, I usually reach for my trusty five (5) note mPentatonic scale. It seems he is touching on some modes with his extra 2 notes. Normally, if I am playing over say an Amajor progression, I will often drop down to the relative Aminor Pentatonic aka C minor pentatonic. Same EXACT 5 notes, only the tonic note is in a different finger location.
🤓🤓🤓🤓
It’s more about the notes
How can this A minor scale (3 notes per string) be easy? You change shape on the D String- THEN on the G string -then AGAIN on the B string --and AGAIN on the top E string. ?---rather awkward ?
✌️👍🇧🇷
You teach like the student is important. Not trying to show off your jokes, shreddy chops, massive Toan. or extensive collection of amps, effects and other unaffordable toys. Thank you
Let’s do it in a minor💀💀
Hey, roll another one.
You're very handsome bro
What position is that😂?? Definitely not the first or 3rd one
way too simple a place to start. starts a beginner off on the wrong foot.
but i would call it the wrong foot to learn to play by ear first. 😅
WTF Is wrong with that tele
He’s going to regret those hideous tattoos
Too much distortion
Yjr fotsy ge noyrd trminf mr og s don in y Thrsas.
Why do people use effects, to show stuff like this???
Because they like the sound more and we turn our pedals on when we turn our amps on. He probably didn’t only turn his gear on to make the video, he probably was also playing before and after the video. It doesn’t change the message of the video and you can apply it to the clean tone according to your preference
Because ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🤪🤡💀✊️💥💫🙉🥳🤯🐓🦧❗️🇺🇸🧨🎟🚨🔥🌞🚀🕶🔊🎸🎷🥁🎹🎤🍺🍕🍆💩👹🚽🪠🚬
Thats major not minor
No it's a natural minor scale or Aeloian mode.
Depends on which note you start on.
@@Daberney Nope. Depends on what's played underneath.
@@swietoslawprozak What do you mean, "Nope"? If I play, in order, the notes C,D,E,F,G,A,B,C, that's a C major scale. If I play the same notes, but start and end on D, it's a D minor scale, Dorian mode. Start on the E, it's Phrygian. And so on. You can make whatever racket you like while I'm doing that, but they're still the same scales. 🤨
@@Daberney Play your „C major starting on C” over an E minor static chord and see how major it sounds
“I like playing minors”😀
“I like playing with minors😧😦🫢🫣
