NFL Player Matthew Cherry & Dads Learn How To Do Hair | Dads Got This! | TODAY Originals
My dad would do my hair all the time and he would always hype himself up while doing it he would be saying “ooooo I did that!” And all kinds of stuff and made it really fun to get my hair done. I miss him and him doing my hair. It’s a important thing to do with a kid
My dad did my hair when I was a little girl as well. I love my dad but I preferred my Mom's work. Dad can do other things.
@@abigailyah3462 This comment got me laughing😂😂
Dude with water spray bottle knew what he was doing❣️ 🤣🤣🤣👌🏾
Yes, I was thinking the same thing 😂
The time black men spend with their daughter's, whether it's doing hair, taking your little girl out to eat, to the movies just father and daughter time. Will build a bond that can't be broken. A little girl needs to learn from her father an outline of what a man should be. Both of my daughters on two separate occasions told me this. "Daddy you're the first man I fell in love with". They are grown women now. Doing their own things. It always bring a happy tear to my eyes, when I repeat those words. Black father's you don't have to be perfect. You just have be present in your little girls life's. It's the biggest investment you can make for her future..
@Sjanae90 Thank you...
I would add this for any fathers. I don't know what it's like to be daddy's little girl. He was physically present but that was about it.
My dad sometimes would dry my hair while my mum was busy with my siblings, and decades later I really cherish that one on one time. I think maybe it's difficult for men to think of activities to do with their little girls, the guy in the video is so right that something simple like doing their hair can be so bonding and you can end up having some really good chats while you're focused on a task. I love this is getting more popular with dads 😍
I love it! My husband did our girls hair when they where children when I was working and this was the 70’s and 80’s.
Real caring strong men!
So happy to see this. Black love and strong families 🖤
My dad use to grease my hair and put it in a ponytail.Im 32 to this day my dad is my best friend. Thanks dad
OMG! When my Dad used to do my sister and my hair when my mom had to travel for work, he did such a horrible job. LOL! He didn't want to hurt us when brushing, combing, or putting our hair in a ponytail. He tried! So grateful to have my memories from that. Love you Daddy. These girls will never forget these memories
This was so beautiful. I’m not crying at all.
Why yall cutting onions
same here ;)
Aww love that Kobe dad was like hair routine at night and adding spray yes moisture your daughters hair to pop them curls! Her hair is beautiful
It's so sweet seeing fathers going out of their way to spend time with their daughters and do their hair. I love this so much.
Yes I'm grown now, and I still think about the times my father spent with me. My father read all of the time. Whenever I needed to talk, my father would put his book down just for me to discuss whatever was bothering me -- I could talk about anything.
Some of my fondest memories of him is when he would sit on the side of his bed, book in his left hand, while sipping bourdon and smoking Kent cigarettes with his right hand. He would read from dusk to dawn. Yes, he would read ALL night long but always stopped to talk with me if I came into the room. Or if I went out, he would make sure I had money of my own to call him in case something happened. He would sit at the dining room table, reading of course, waiting for me to come home and would not go to bed until I arrived home safely. When I did arrive, he would put his book down and ask me if I had a nice time. We would talk about what I did, if any of my friends where there, etc. He always did this! I realize as an adult just how fortunate I am to have had my father. I still love and think of him often.
My father was a real man and a gentleman.
every child in this video was gorgeous 💜
This was just beautiful. It is so refreshing to see men taking the time to learn to do their daughter's hair. The girls will always know how much they meant to their fathers. That bond no one can replace.
It’s always fun to see my husband try to do my oldest daughters hair. Non of us has ringlets for hair but my oldest do and I done a lot of research and asking around in how to care for her hair.
So that's not his biological daughter right?
that girl with orange sunglasses is way cooler than me lol
I have a first grader been doing her hair since pre-k and he’s spot on at the end of the video, being a dad is more than being present it’s definitely about being their protector letting them know their genuinely loved and they’re able to physically identify genuine love from a man... 🤴🏾👧🏽
❤️!!!!! God bless all these fathers.
This is so sweet and cute ❤️ I remember one time my grandpa did my hair
So cute seeing the dads trying and, essentially, caring. The daughters will look back at their time spent together with fondness, as they grow up.
I love this piece. My aunts always told me that my grandfather did their hair. My grandmother was too rough, and they were tender-headed, so he took over the role. This was in the 50s and 60s. ❤
Real Daddies have BEEN doing their Daughters hair for years. I'm 56 years old and my Dad use to comb my hair on occasion. I use to perfer him doing it over my Mom doing it because he didn't comb down to the scalp. It was a surface thing but it looked good to us... and that's all that mattered!!! #DaddysGurl 💖
Exactly mine too back in 70s and 80s my dad used to do my hair, help me make parts etc!
@Karen Sherman , I’m here a year later! I lost my day 12 years next month and I was born in 1983. My daddy did my hair too, and did a good job ! You are so right , real daddies have always done this! I miss that man!
@@genniferhayes-brown6564 I know that feeling of missing my Dad physically but I'm thankful for all the memories. I still have conversations with him and I know he hears and is listening!!! 💖
Not mine. Not hair, not hanging out one-on-one, not even really the hugging type.
@@73cidalia ahhh man I'm sorry for you, you got cheated. My Dad did all those thing plus more. I miss him every time something big is happening but I know he's watching from Heaven... ☁️
Ha! This is so sweet. In the ‘80s my mom went on a business trip. My dad attempted and then promptly called my aunt. 😂
Yaaaaaaa for Dads . Each and everyone of you are Special ❤️🇨🇦
Well done, Dads! 👏🏾👌🏾🙌🏾💯
If more black men got involved in the grooming of their children, especially the daughters, the hair weave industry will probably go out of business within a generation.
Saimazing Life Well said. Wow!
Not necessarily when weave is a choice. However having dad’s involvement fosters a healthy relationship.
Facts my wife wears her crown natural and our daughter will do the same. No european “beauty standards” ova here!
💯 I agree
Yessss
Great dads, great bonding moments those girls will always remember.
I love all these Dads🥰
MY KINGS! 👑
THANK YOU!
WE LOVE YOU!💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Love this little film and so glad it won an Oscar oh yeah !!!!!!!!!
Beautiful story. Daddy time. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
My hubby did his daughter's hair when they were little. I loved it.
So beautiful and inspirational. Good job to the dads that’s in their kids lives. 👍🏾
I loved “Hair Love “. Hope to see more content from this artist.
It was crazy when I use to do my daughters hair when I had her and her mom was at work I definitely became king ponytail...
This is so precious! 🥺
Love this!! This should be what is "normal" for fathers to do...like changing diapers, for example (my husband has certainly seen his fair share of dirty diapers).
Bd from the 213 your comment is so harsh lol, but I agree that black men definitely need to do better.
This is amazing. And if you haven't seen the short film Hair Love, get ready for the tears ♥️
0:07 she said "Aht Aht" 🤣🤣🤣
LOL
Right lol
Yes!! It won the Oscar for best animated short. I loved the movie
This is so refreshing to see.. Love It!!!
This is so precious!! Thank you for this Today show. This was a necessary spotlight on Black fathers.
I wish I could get any man to brush my hair with same love and trust these girl have with their dad.
That's sweet to see father daughter bonding.😊
Kudos, Dads!🤩
I LOVE this. This is how it suppose to be, for fathers to be more involved in their daughter's life. (I hope I said that correctly)💜💕🌹👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Man! This warms my heart👍🏾
I really like this father daughter time great on you dads 😊
🥰 This us so sweet!!! Daddy of the year Award!!!
This is the cutest 🥺🥺
We truly need our fathers. Fathers are an absolute blessing when they are in their children's lives especially for their daughters. I didn't have my father in my life, and I feel I missed out on so much although my mom was TERRIFIC.🥰🥰 But as I viewed this video, I honestly wish my father had been there for me and my sisters. For all great dads out there who are raising their daughters with love I SALUTE you. You are wonderful and there's nothing more precious than a daddy's love and nurturing. God Bless all of you.💝💝💝💝
Aww, my dad did my hair as a kid!! I cherish that!!! Love this 😀❤
My dad did my hair every morning growing up. He had amazing pony tail skills! I was the only 1st grader that went to school looking like I had a mini face lift! 😂
One day, my hubby will master this! 🤣
So precious!
Love this! Gotta give dads an E for effort.
I love it! Great dads!
Love the 3 names -- very classy
So proud of you Tieya!!
I LOVE this!!!! Awesome job guys.
Yassssss to men who are real dads 💜
I'm 60 and my Dad did my hair. Don't remember what it looked like, but I remember enjoying the time spent with him
I love this. Beautiful to see.
This warms my heart. I wish my Dad would have done my hair.
So adorable 🥰
Well... I'm impressed.
Nice bonding!
The caucasian dad's need to share their secret style with the other dad's. Just stick a bow in it and it's good😂. Doesn't matter where the bow is placed or how the ponytail looks, as long as it has a bow its good. Dad's doing hair is such a good hearted, funny bonding experience in all families.
Jane Doe great idea in theory...just won’t work on all our hair. Not until society and those within our own community accept our hair in ALL its iterations. This is a double whammy for us, no pretty bow will just fix. Love your antidote though 👍🏾
I was wondering why he is there though. White people won't let black people own any space at all. They always want to chip in. Smh
@@LuckyLucky-xp2sz I think he was there to get help doing his daughter’s hair. She never said it was a workshop for black men, just men who want to learn. I don’t know why he wouldn’t be welcomed in that.
This brings back great!! Memories with me and my dad we living together alone. and my dad doing my hair. It was laughable when I went to school😜😜😜 my friends use to asked me if my granny did my hair😜😜😜 because it was all over the place the parts was crazy!! 😜😜😜 one plat was up in the air and the other was to the west 😜😜😜 but I wouldn't trade it for anything. Priceless❤❤ I love my dad to the moon and back❤❤ . great !! Job dads❤
Love this... Thank you for sharing 🥰
The king of the pony tail 😂🤩👍🏻
My dad did my hair once and thank goodness he never attempted again, but it's a sweet memory.
Ooh, that was so good!
Love it. Thanks for sharing.
Aww Fathers and Daughters this is to sweet l love it. 💋💕💕💓💞👄
Lol this is so heart warming but funny 😄
This is absolutely wonderful. ❤️
this is so cute, when I was little my dad was the one who braided me and my siblings hair.
Oh how I love it!
Ahhh thats sooo cute! 🥰👍🤗
This is so cool!!!!!!!
The NFL huh. Rise and shine America.
Thank you Matthew 😊
I feel gender uncertainty comes from society's tendency to say "Boys do this, Girls do that". I've seen boys play with dolls as children and grow up to be strong, capable individuals who are sensitive to the needs and feelings of those around them. I live in a hunting community where girls where cammo and hunt just as often - and sometimes with greater accuracy - than the boys around them. People should be allowed to BE regardless of their genetics.
Lucas the spider - spinning webs
Tara P You said you live in a hunter community? Wow!
Nah it comes from the parents....or rather the their nonexistent state.
This is so cute😭
Love this
AWESOME and BEAUTIFUL ❤️
This is so beautiful ❤️
LOVE IT!!!!
These are REAL MANLY MEN. I want one
Soooooo CUTE AND INSPIRATIONAL.
She has on her sunshades 😂♥️
Hey Dads! You can also practice on one of those toy doll styling heads. That is how I learned to braids my 2 daughters’ hair. It really helped my braiding skills.👍🏽👌🏾
Babygurl said quit playing for I tell Mommy and granny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My Dad never did my hair; but I would always play in his. I used to style his hair and put barrettes in it while he slept. 🤣
This is so beautiful 😻
Didn’t the guy who wrote the book also just win an Oscar for making a short movie about the same subject? Or was that someone else?
Yes. Don’t remember his name.
Matthew Cherry made his book into a short. He won an Oscar for hair love.
Yesssss!!!! HAir Love!, check it out on RUclips it’s fantastic !!!
Yes
I'm black, my hair is wavy, fine. It's a joy to see men doing hair. Because sometimes my hair is thick & long, my arms get tired fast. My hair is natural. I love it. 💓💞💓
I love ❤️ this 😃
So nice to see BLACK FATHERS WITH BLACK CHILDREN!☺☺☺
Every night an hour before bedtime my mom would brush my hair out while i read her the "Little House on the Praire" series. She used those books to teach me how to read. My Dad and I bonded in the kitchen, I had a little stool to stay on (so I wouldn't get hurt) and he used the recipes to teach me to read.
Your childhood sounds so wholesome and adorable
