The Tug-v-Shane arch-rivalry. The show was simply appetizing to watch back in the 90s. Home and Away was a second family and Shane was a Top Top Character. Absolutely gutted he has left us. Rest In Peace Dieter.
Thanks for posting this. We never see interviews like this here in Ireland. So sad he died so young. May his soul and all the souls of the faithfully departed in the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.
Im Irish, and though I have'nt watched the show in a long time now, I absolutely loved it in the early years. Back then when H&A started iin '88, most of the country still had just the 2 telly stations (RTE 1 and 2), and it really felt that everyone in Ireland was watching the show at the time! My primary school teachers, friends, cousins, everyone loved it. The Shane/Angel era from the mid-90s was brilliant with the Tug/Shane feud being some of the shows highlights. I always go back and watch classic clips of the show, and doing so again today. Sláinte to Dieter.👏👏
@@kylereece1979 in my first primary school (moved area as a child) everyone watched Home and Away in my classroom which consisted of three classes except our teacher and one student who watched Blockbusters on BBC2. In 1988 most of us got BBC1&2 Wales, HTV Wales, Sky One, Eurosport from a local community tv service in a town in the county. They would have someone come around to your area, go house to house looking for £10 each year for you getting the signal for the channels. When I moved we lost Sky One, Eurosport but got S4C and Channel 4. Then 2 years after it's launch Channel 5. Every year they would interrupt ads between programmes with ads for a couple of months reminding you to pay the £10 and how collectors would be in certain areas on certain weeks. Many would then try to avoid paying the £10 by not answering the door if they thought it was someone to collect the £10.
@@kylereece1979 Also, remember for a while Network 2 cut home and away episodes from 5 to 3 episodes a week as its popularity reduced. Angel was still in the show then but Shane had died. During that time Angel stole $50 from the diner to buy a maternity dress as she had none and could not afford one. I think Marilyn caught her but felt bad for her so never told Alsa. It was the time they had extended kids shows to 6.30pm. They put on an extra show after The Den. Three times a week it was Sabrina the teenage witch. Remember, Angel was to have twins but Home and Away scrapped the story as it got leaked. They had Angel give birth to a baby Girl in Pippa's house she called Shane. She believed Shane saved her by his ghost going on a motorbike with helmet on and directing the vehicle she was in out of the area it was in during bad weather.
@@thebigloc1 I love tellin' people today that, back then only certain people in Ireland that lived in towns could get the BBCs and HTV- and Sky! I remember Eurosport because we had that the exact same day that the relaunched "Sky One" was unleashed. The old Sky Channel previously was a Dutch run station that ran across Europe and played a lot of music related shows, classic US telly- and WWF wrestling!! So, if you lived anywhere in the countryside- which was most of the country itself then, only the Irish Telly stations got thru' to you. Home&Away was also on HTV. It was about 4-5 months behind us, and Id watch em both. That way of course you could catch up with everything all over again on HTV weeks and weeks after it was aired on RTE/Network 2. I loved that!
Was watching the video and thought I’d go on google and see if he was doing anything new yet. Then saw the comments below.Am shocked and gutted.Only wrote on here about 2days ago that he was one of my favourite characters.Rip 😥😥
Still can't believe he's gone so sad such an amazing actor and also from what everyone said that knew him he was an amazing person too its honestly sad
So sad to hear Dieter has passed away. He was the same age as me and I really liked his character Shane in Home and Away. A truly genuine and cool guy who had a mind of his own. Rest in Peace Brother.
I'd have never have thought Tristan Banks was nearly 2 yrs older than Dieter here. Classic interview here...Terrible how existence turns out....This was Home & Away(s) best era....
SUCH A GREAT ACTOR - GREAT INTERVIEW FROM TRISTAN TOO. BUT ANOTHER TALENT LOST FROM DEPRESSION 😢 AMAZING TO HEAR HIS THOUGHTS FROM ALL THOSE YEARS AGO ☺
He seems so down to earth but one of his co stars who was lucky enough to date him said he was one of the nicest down to earth guys you could ever meet and can see this. Was gutted when I found out he died but my heart goes out to his mum to 🩷🩷rip dieter x
Like anyone in this day and age would find the person they wish to share their life with at 19 or even want if you have a choice. Even so the Shane & Angel love story was epically unmissable
I agree. And watching it today, they DO get kinda boring once they are married. Angel just becomes a nag. What you have to remember though is that, at the time, we had never seen such a hit teenage couple go from being school boyfriend and girlfriend, to engaged, to married, to living together with a kid. It was a first and we enjoyed the journey more than anything because we had never followed a teenage romance through such a journey.
I agree with what he was getting at. Shane was a lot more interesting pre-1995. Yes, his relationship with Angel was sweet to watch but after they got married the writers stopped giving him any interesting storylines of his own, he was supporting Angel's storylines all the time. And they made him go along with Angel too often instead of standing his ground like he did pre-1995. I'm glad they gave him at least one final classic Shane storyline in '96 a few weeks before he died, when he was out at sea with Travis. And the gang he got mixed up with. They should have continued to give him those sorts of stories during '95.
This is what happened after filming *Bancks:* So who do you think would've won if Tug and Shane got into a fight? *Brummer:* Well, it's hard to say. They're both evenly marched. *Bancks:* like Rocky Balboa vs Clubber lang. *Brummer:* Since you put it like that, Shane, of course. *Bancks:* How do you know Tug won't kick his ass? *Brummer:* didn't Shane beat Tug in a race? *Bancks:* that doesn't prove anything, remember Tug punched him for kissing Sarah? *Brummer:* I'm sure Shane would love to show Tug how to fight if he's right now. *Bancks:* You mean Tug will teach Shane how to fight! *Brummer:* So what is Tug waiting for! *Bancks:* For Shane to stop yapping and make a move!
This was actually a whole programme! With Daniel Amalm, Isla Fisher etc. I remember recording it! Do you have that also? Would be awesome to see again 👍
I will always especially remember the amazing scene in H&A in which Shane being the opportunist , uses his leading role in the Summer Bay musical as leverage over Tug, whos girlfriend Sarah, was Shane's co-star. What was supposed to be an innocent onstage kiss between the two, Shane gives a knowing smirk to an already seething, insecure Tug in the audience and lobs his gob full on her instead! Tug runs onstage like something outta WWE, and lays the smack down on Shane infront of everyone! Brilliant. I remember laughing aloud at that at the time.
yea she or he was dressed as superwoman/man weren't they? I recall he pranked jack and told him to climb in angel's bedroom window at night time and seduce her and it was actually fisher's bedroom-that was hilarious. There it is ruclips.net/video/dKsM3gR9fP8/видео.html
