At the time I wrote that comment I just thought Italy was into guys like Germany. He lost so much like his grandfather Ancient Rome and his lover the Holy Roman Empire and I’m not totally sure about his brother Romano. he was mostly around Spain a lot and N. Italy spent more time with Germany and Austria than with him. Then during World War I and World War II he was so loyal to Germany and I just assumed that he liked the guy. When Italy changed sides, it was the king and his reactionaries who made the change, the Fascist in the north actually fought pretty tooth and nail against the allies.
