- He grew up in Hollywood in a well-known literary family, and built a career as an actor, producer, director and documentary filmmaker. Now, Griffin Dunne has written a family memoir of life in (and on the outskirts of) the limelight, "The Friday Afternoon Club." He talks with contributor Kelefa Sanneh about coping with fame, tragedy, famous relatives, and the pull of a good story.

His father, Dominick, was a fantastic author. I have several of his books.
Loved his breakdown of the OJ trial & VF articles 🌟
I met Griffin in the blistering cold winter of 1990 when he was in Boston filming Once Around with Holly Hunter, Richard Dreyfuss, Gena Rowlands & Danny Aiello. It's one of my favorite films, not the least of which because both he & Richard were so kind to me. Also love his dad's novels!
I haven’t seen that in years. That house! ❤
@@samanthab1923 The Bella family house was actually in North Carolina & the snow there was fake. The ice skating scenes were filmed in New Hampshire. Pretty much everything else was shot in Boston. I know this because my boyfriend at the time was hired to be Dreyfuss' stand-in until at the very last minute, they decided to go with a paler guy. My boyfriend was an olive-skinned Italian, but otherwise had a similar build & face. We thought it was weird because they had Richard all tanned up for the part. The scene on the Longfellow Bridge where Richard & Holly jump out of the limo was filmed on a -20 below wind-chill day. The steam coming out of their mouths & their shivers were very real.
I fell in love with Griffin in This is Us. What a life! And still gorgeous!
Yes! He'll always be Uncle Nicky to me.
After Hours is one of my favorite films of all time!
Lower Manhattan is a roller coaster.
Always been a fan of his work. AFTER HOURS is one of my all-time favorite films.
Such a GOOD MOVIE
Knew the Dunne family while working down the stree from them as a Governess. Both families kids were very close, still many pictures of the youngens hanging out in our house. Was taken aback by their tragedies, saddened when Dominique, sister, and Dad, Dominic died! To see and hear you this.morning on CBS was a treat! Going to get your book, lived a part of it with you! Where is Alex?
This book is so amazing. It's even better to listen to as Griffin reads it.
Dunne is a performer of our time
Six and a half years for murdering an innocent woman! What kind of justice is that?
And he only actually served 2!
Horrible
That was a disgrace. I remember Miguel Ferrer talking about what horrible condition Dominque was in. She was unrecognizable. 🙏🏻
The libs in ca
Just a travesty. No justice for Dominique or her family. I was always a fan of this Griffin’s! ❤
After Hours is one of my favorite movies.
It’s Scorsese’s best. I said it
That is a good but strange movie.
Griffin should go on Who Do You Think You Are? Or the PBS one Finding Your Roots 🌞
Griffin’s mannerisms uncanny resemblance to his father. Dominick would be proud of this book. Can’t wait to read it.
He looks a lot like his dad now and talks like him
So much tragedy with his murdered sister. Love him in the Kafkaesque After Hours (he looks like Kafka!)
Great head of hair for his age.
No mention of his role in My Girl and This is Us?!
He has had quite the life.
@@RichardQuaidI honestly had never heard of him until his stint on TIS. I didn’t recognize him in My Girl until after the fact.
I'm a fan of his murdered sister, have been since the release of Poltergeist and a guest spot she did on the show "Fame" (I was devastated by her death at age 14)...thus I am a fan of his and of the whole family. I am counting the days until his book comes out!
Looking forward to reading this on the beach this summer Griffin!
I love Griffin Dunne. I always enjoyed when he played the annoying "Bob" who plagued Kelsey Grammer on that one episode of "Frasier."
😂 I remember that!
Squeek!! 😂
Yes!! That scene where his stupid golf cap goes by the window has me in stitches every time!!
I really hope he gets to direct the "Practical Magic" sequel.🙏
His sister was in Poltergeist. But I liked her in a tv movie called "The Day the Loving Stopped" with Dennis Weaver. An interesting tv movie about dealing with divorce as a child
I believe she was in the original V T.V. movie as the teen who gave birth to an alien child!
The ratings success of V lead to the TV series. Robert Englund co-starred in that movie, as well.
His book is great! Read it
Great on This is Us
After hours was nice. He was also quietly good in MY GIRL and DALLAS BUYERS CLUB
I liked him as the hippy doctor in Dallas…..
I really liked his character in This is Us.
You would be a wonderful person to have a conversation with. Great interview.
That was nice. Thank you.
This man is the most handsome man who ever lived.
What’s his name?
Louden.
What’s his last name?
[pause] Clear.
Good guy, reminds me a lot of his dad, mannerisms.
looked like kurt russell in the thumbnail.
Did he regret making "Who's That Girl" with Madonna ? LOL. He looks so different now.
Older folks looks usually change mostly for the worse.
No one saw that so what's there to regret?
@@ManChan-w5p😂 I JUST watched it because I thought his role had been played by actor David Strathairn. Not the greatest movie but the soundtrack isn’t bad.
@@curtismichael4703 The actor in the baseball movie with women starring Geena Davis, Tom Hanks and of course Ciccone. A League of their own. When the soundtrack is better than the movie.....Flash Gordon.
I like that movie.
I remember waiting in a LONG line of people to see Who’s that girl back in 1986 (everyone OF COURSE was there to see Madonna). The movie was SOOOOOO BAD, I distinctly remember watching people get up and leave the theater!! …..like 15-20 people!! It was an AWFUL movie!! 🤷🏼♂️😂
Griffith sounds and looks like his Dad. Liked him in American werewolf in London.
Who's That Girl!!
His looks and voice remind me so much of Michael Douglas. Does anyone else see it, or am I alone here?
He sounds just like his father.
He sounds just like his father.
Who's That Gird was an awful movie (what I saw of it as it was so bad I just had to leave the theater before it ended) because of Madonna's bad acting and insipid character. Nothing to do with Griffin who was just stuck in that turkey. I liked the Joan Didion documentary.
No one saw that movie so no regrets.
I am sick from being a floral designer. I have a lung disease from Sporotrichosis, which had me @ 5/13/12.FLORISTS should be wearing haz mat suits.Mold toxicity, and formaldehyde, and 30 +years .in the hospital for 8 days.My oxygen level at 40%.I lost everything,my car, place to live, belongings and My Job.I got fired too as soon as I told them what I had is from Flowers. It is recognized by the cdc. Yeah they are not letting it out. Pitiful shame on you cdc, nih, my doctors, and my friends....Yeah after I got sick no one can be bothered.....
It's silly but he was in a ridiculous movie called Amazon Women on the Moon and did a skit in it with Michelle Pfiefer that was beyond hilarious...😊
If he was Carrie fishers friend he's a friend of mine
Angeles Lansbury Mrs Potts
Neopolopis
How much did he pay CBS to get a feature on here?
He didn't. Why the hate?
Huh? It's a publicity spot for his new book. Happens all the time. No one is forced to watch.
The book is probably published by SImon and Schueter.
@@jojopuppyfishThinking the same
Maybe when a station decides to do a feature on hater trolls, they'll include you
