I forgot to point out - don't forget to matt varnish your model when it's done! I've also been told you should use a normal drill for drilling out rivets - not a dremel. :)
Quick tip with the weathering powder, you should first sand lightly with 1000 grit sandpaper then apply the weathering powder as It gives the powder a spot to fall in
you prolly dont give a shit but does someone know of a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Xzavier Bridger Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I find that some of these techniques, like dry brushing highlights, work well for miniatures but I don't like them on Gaslands cars. They fit very nicely on cartoonist creatures in Warhammer and the like because they enhance the cartoon feel, plus work well with organic shapes, but on vehicles they just look unnatural and forced. I find the best way to create highlight is to either scuff the paint along the edges to the bare metal or paint highlights with metallic paint, simulating said scuffs. Then carefully and tactfully sponge on some rust, including bright oxide paint. The result is much more natural and fitting. All a bit subjective, I know. I have seen some really good paint jobs that were a bit more "warhammery" but they are really high end, highly detailed that throw you over the suspension of disbelief barrier and I haven't figured out how to achieve them.
I actually ran a Dark Future campaign way back when. We ended up with some pretty high level drivers. Good times! Gaslands is definitely a much easier rule set to figure out for one off games of vehicle mayhem.
First time visitor. I'm just getting into doing some Gaslands cars and this is a great tutorial. Thanks! New subscriber (#15.2K +1) too. I'll be following. From Switzerland - Andrew 🍁
Just getting into Gaslands and I've seen some people strip their cars of the original paint prior to priming them. What do you suggest? Thank you so much for this video I can't wait to do my first car this week.
I just spray it with black primer; considering it's going to be beaten up like crazy, why bother being neat? :) I suppose if there was some painted decal or something on the side you want to get rid of it?
10:51 "Workspace? Nope!!! It's all just tabletop storage. No need to make room for my hands to work when I can use that same space to keep all the knives, paints, and toys I have laying around."
I mostly use old Dark Future weapons, but of course they're not readily available. I think there are some companies out there making some. For this, your Google search is as good as mine, but I found this: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1944924/where-order-good-bits-gaslands-modeling
I don't know the rules of gaslands cause i dont like tabletop games, but im really interested in the crafting of those little post-apolatittic beauties, my question is: i can take the car i prefer to transform it, or i must follow some specific guidelines? Thank you, and sorry for my bad English.
Thanks for the video, one question does anyone have a clue where to get weapons and such to mad max my cars out...I dont have a surplus of games workshop bits at my disposal and keep in mind I live in the U.S.
I've got as much idea as you Curt! Just rough them up as you would the car body and paint them a dark colour. The police car in this video already had windows like that. I have no particular techniques, you just have to experiment and have fun. :)
Hello, i start to play gaslands and i try to make my first car. The problem is the black paint "CITADEL CHAOS BLACK" Don't stick with th metal and when you touch it with sometink hard the paint fall out… Have you an idea to how to fix it? matt vanish can fix it maybe? Thanks for all information you can give me (sorry for my English)
Did you prime the model? You don't paint directly onto the model, you spray it with a white or black primer first. Then after painting, you can spray varnish it to protect the paint job.
Yes, they have a primer called chaos black. That's fine. If you're using a primer and still having problems, perhaps you need to varnish the cars afterwards?
@@EsotericOrderGamers Ahh, ok, that makes sense. Normally, I have no problem with our vowel differences, but for some reason my brain just wasn't going there. Great video, thanks for posting!
i used electric masking tape for windows armor (if you want thinner armor, flush with windows frames), usually swap one or both axels with wheels and put off road ones on (depends if its FWD, RWD or AWD/4x4).
Please don't recommend drilling out the rivets using a dremel. Use a proper drill for it. A dremel is not build for drilling. Besides that, great video :D
You won't find a regular drill bit on dremels site. They Can drill, but they are not made for it. Try putting in a drill bit, turn on the dremel and watch the drill from the side, it's going to "wobble". Just used a hand or electric drill, it's a lot safer and faster.

bah...I have been using my dremel for months, it works fine; just don't be a fool and don't drill holes into yourself.

I never did get around to playing DF much. It was very fiddly, I recall.
Fantastic work man
powder stuff is new to me ..need to try it
You make it look so simple!
That's because it is, give it a go!

A hearty welcome to you from New Zealand Andrew! be sure to chck out my website you might find it very useful.
turned out great- nice work - ill have to give it a go

Great video. Damn I wish I could find as good drivers and crew as the ancient Dark Future minis
Yeah, they still stand up today quality-wise.

I'd love to reply to your comment but there's no reference to a workspace around that time in the video...
Nice, this has given me a good idea on how to convert them! Where can I get the weapons?

Dark Future, the best battlecars game ever!!
Looks great man, I'l have to get some of those rust effects.
Those weathering powders really make that step easy.
I need a CD with those ending sound effects for my next post-apocalyptic game ;) Nice work on the paint jobs as well!
I assume you mean my excellent brooom-brroom! noises. :)
Of course! :) Far better than mine...I sound like a dead duck when I try to make brooom-brroom sounds ;)
Which is very appropriate if the car is running over a duck.
Please tell me where you got the Citadel paint rack. That looks awesome.
Do you think you could purchase the weathering powder somewhere in Denmark?
Try Google, it's amazing! :)

Ebay Warhammer 40k bits. You can usually get a handfull of weapons for pretty cheap. I think Ork weapons would look best, but that's just me.
can you do a video on how to do gasland windshields, dusky and or cracked and so on

Apart from bits where on earth can you find weapons like machine guns ? Help appreciated !

The Esoteric Order of Gamers citadel chaos black is not the primary ?
Yes, they have a primer called chaos black. That's fine. If you're using a primer and still having problems, perhaps you need to varnish the cars afterwards?
Dremels are nice, but you can also use mini bastard files to weather the car.
There's a file called a 'mini bastard'? Classic!
www.amazon.com/Pc-Mini-Bastard-Files-Set/dp/B00J9S5L62 they're similar to the one used in your video, just gouge out bits.
Yeah, same thing I'm using there I think. I will from now on refer to them as mini bastards. :) That's an insane price though.
do you most use model scale 1-64?
They're Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars - I don't know the scale.
3:50 "... from the back of a ...???..." night book? Is that what you said? If so, what's a night book? If not, then what DID you say? Thanks.

@@gmscott9319 No worries!
Thanks for this video... "Gaslands... cheap wargaming... except you need to buy a Dremel!" LOL. Seriously though... helpful. Cheers.
LOL! I know! It's entirely optional, I assure you. Definitely an impulse buy there. :)
i bet you could have saved whatever the dremmel cost by dragging that car over a sidewalk
It was a bit of a waste of money, I haven't used it since!
Anyone else have some car modding tips?

Whoops, thanks Nakul! I saw some other videos recommending it so I assumed it was the tool for the job. Thanks for the clarification!
bah, it works fine and yes dremels are made for drilling that is why they sell drill bits for them. :)

Fair enough, I couldn't find any when I searched. But it still does not change the fact you should use a proper drill for drilling :)
