- Virtual Reality have been criticized for being anti-social, and it’s often annoying, that you can’t guide your friends or customers when they are exploring your VR experience. That goes for 360 images and video, as well as for games. Today we’re gonna project the VR experience up on a screen with the Samsung GearVR and Google’s Chromecast. This way, other people can check out our VRay stereo renders on the TV, while we are viewing them in the Gear VR.

The chromecast mirroring is a new feature in the latest Oculus App update. According to Oculus, the GearVR is the first Headmounted Device to support Chromecast. So for this to work you need to have an up-to-date version of both your Android OS and the Oculus App.

It seems that a lot of people are having issues with this. And yesterday I had one as well. Suddenly the Chromecast icon was gone in the Oculus App.
HERE'S WHAT I DID TO FIX IT:
1. Force quit the Oculus app.
2. Powered the chromecast off and on again.
3. Cast a RUclips video to the Chromecast
4. Opened the Oculus App.
5. Like magic, the icon was back...
Now if I disconnect the chromecast from the pulldown menu, the icon disappears from the Oculus App again.
Then I have to reconnect to the Chromecast, with RUclips (or perhaps any other casting app), and then the icon appears in my Oculus App again.
So apparently it only works, when there's already established a connection between the phone and the chromecast, via some other app..
Do you have to buy something extra to cast it,because my icon isn't there

yeah when i tried just mirroring my device it would be a slideshow. Like one image every 5-10 seconds..
But this actually made it work. And i'm using the first generation chromecast so it's not the best at all.
Wowwww .... Thank you for this video !!!! for a long time i was looking for how to cast my gear vr on chromecast and i had never noticed the logo at the top right in the oculus app! Very cool! it was frustrating not to see what was going on in the VR gear during parties with friends.

Great awesome video KTD, clear simple instructions where others dropped the ball. I have a Note 9 and OCULUS is still running my 2017 Gear VR with controller sans problemita. My only issue with clicking the like button, is that you currently have four hundred and twenty likes and I hate to change that golden ratio. I suscribed to hopefully soften the blow, with less smoke, maybe try some edibles, if you're into that....thanks again mate..

It worked....almost. When I loaded a Roller Coaster App for my grandson, there was no sound at all, not even out of the phone itself. I shut down the app and the oculus and the sound did not return to my galaxy s9 at all until I rebooted the phone. Any suggestions?

Joeufrey Asignacion There's a known bug, that some people don't have the Icon. Mine just updated automatically. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. 😕

hi just a quick question with regards to audio. iv tried using various casting apps to cast Samsung gear vr to laptop but the sound then no longer comes out of the phone's headphones which ruins the whole vr experience. is there a way to chromecast or use another app and allow sound to come out of the phone and laptop/tv? then everyone incolved can see and hear whats going on. thanks

Do you need to have a Chromecast display available in your network to get the icon in the library of the Oculus application? I upgraded everything to the latest version. I have no chromecast display available in my network and I cannot see the icon in the application.

@@KevinTheDane is this correct? Oculus app is the only app currently that allows you to view stereoscopic with HMD and cast monoscopic (live) via Google Chromecast?
@@jodi319 I don't know how other apps do it, but it doesn't make sense to transfer 2 almost identical video-streams. So it makes a lot of sense, that they only send 1 (mono) 😊
im sorry but what about the audio? Do you hear something? Cause I can't ear any sound, tv, earphones or the phone :/ looks like the oculus app being mute everithing.
Is the tv volume support to be off? I can't hear anything when casting. Only hear sound on phone. How do I fix?
I don't think there is a fix. Casting disables the sounds :/

I can't get found to work either, and other casting methods, like screen mirror via phone, lag too badly to even tell if there IS sound.

ArqRenderZ Unfortunately not. Some say it's only available in certain countries, but I don't know if that is just an excuse 😊

How do you still have audio? Gear VR chromecast doesn't support audio
I have gotten video to show, looks great. However, all my Apps show a message "audio disabled". This really is a bummer, because it disables the audio on both the headset and TV. Is this normal? Any fix?
360VRguy As you can hear in my video, I had audio (on hover click sounds). I think it was coming from the TV, but I'm unsure. I'll check.
360VRguy No, I only have sound in the menu, and it's coming from the device. All apps are without sound, and a warning saying that sound is disabled...
Why does the image look like a square on the flatscreen?
Frédéric Sidler That's cause it only shows one of the eyes. It's the same format as when you do videocapture from Oculus 😊
Since Chromecast requires internet connectivity; I assume with this configuration (Chromecast + GearVR) whatever content you're sharing will be exposed to the internet?
I assume the GearVR will send it directly to your Chromecast. If it had to use the Internet, the latency would be extreme. So with a secure WiFi, I will presume your stream to be private 😊

Anyone else get a red dot on their screen when screencasting? Its a red dot on both left and right window which looks like one when looking thru gear vr. It does not show up on tv screen tho. Other than that and the delayed stream to tv, the oculus cast works, thanks
GamerGary It is a REC indicator. The same one that appears if you capture video from the GearVR.

+GamerGary I don't think so. I think the app utilices the capture feature, and the streams it directly to the Chromecast.
what version on oculus app u r using ? im on android 7.0.1 , i have not recieve any update for this feature....
Hanif Zack It's weird. It works for some people and not others.. Some people say it's country specific, but I really don't know. I use Android 7.0 and the newest Oculus.

To CAST WITH SOUND for freinds and family to watch & listen to the VR experience, I recommend streaming it on facebook and watching it that way. It has a delay, but no lag, and both the headset AND Facebook will have sound. DONE.
It's the only acceptable method I have found that does not require a ton of technical know-how, searching through and possibly messing up settings, or buying more exesories. The creatores of Oculus know about this problem, and have for a while, but have not, and do not, show any inclination to fix it, or even properly explain it.

What version of the oculus app do you have? I'm on an S8+ with app version 3.12.0.4.50 (61778550) as of 6.23.2017 but my cast option is nowhere to be found in this app. Yes I'm on the same wifi network as my chromecast and phone is up to date with the latest firmware as well... Thanks for any and all help you're able to lend.
I have:
- Android Version 7.0
- Oculus App v. 3.12.0.4.50.
- Google Home v. 1.23.35.2
Could you try running you Google Home app, and check if your chromeast device is showing?
Also, keep in mind that the Chromecast Icon is only available from the Libraries Tab in the Oculus App, not from the default Store Tab.

KevinTheDane I haven't but all my other apps give me the cast icon with no problem. Last question, if you just got your chromecast, I'm guessing it's one of the newer round models, not the original "stick" version? If so, maybe it has something to do with that.
It is not good, because I can not hear anything more and in less than 2 minutes of use that turn off the phone because it warmed, unfortunately I do not because samsung does not solve this problem. Does anyone

Rafael Tude I usually just skip the warning and continue anyway. Try to turn down the brightness of the screen (in oculus menu), to delay the heat issue 😊

Try resetting everything. I wrote a pinned comment about an issue where the button sometimes disappear.
None of the games support sound while casting smh. So if you want to cast, you have to play in silence.

Rickyfyied and these vloggers are paid and wont dare speak on the important issues to know before you buy. This guy knew about this problem with oculus but chose not to say anything. Smh
I'm an architect, so I use it to view images - and thus I don't really need any sound. :) But for games it's no good to play without sound. The same problem is there when you do a video grab of your view - the video has no sound. I'm developing a small game, and it's pretty annoying that I cant grab both sound and video from my game, while it's running on the Gear VR :/ I'm by the way not paid by anyone :)

Does not work not helpfull
When its not connecting right away, a workaround I find helpful is to force on the connection between phone and chromecast, by casting a youtube video. After this, the icon usually appear in the Gear VR menu. But I agree, it's a bit unstable. I don't know if the issue is with Chromecast or Gear VR. Hope you get it to work :)
