No bugs. Not hot.
Absolutely! No bugs and the cooler weather are both bonuses for hiking during the winter.
Great winter hiking tips! Montana becomes you and it looks like a great space to hike. In Tip 5 you mention keeping batteries warm, a great tip, but everyone should know that cold only slows the battery discharge, cold does not drain a battery. A cold battery retains it's charge and will operate normally as soon as it is rewarmed. Just pop the battery in a pocket close to your body and your body heat will get the battery charge moving again in minutes. Very low temperatures, e.g. -20 to -40 or colder, may damage some rechargeable batteries and electronics.
Beautiful presentation, you filmed and explained everything so nicely and enjoyably! Love it 👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
Be bold, start cold is a great tip. I'm guilty of starting warm and always have to lose some clothing after only 10 minutes of hiiking. 😆 . I may try those Duluth pants. Currently, I love my baleaf pants and just wear long johns under them in cold weather. Good video. Thanks.
I've been guilty of starting off wearing too many layers myself as well. It's hard, especially when it's really cold out. As long as you do a layer change before you get too sweaty, then you're all good.
I have been training on the Lake Angeles trail on the Oly peninsula…. It’s an awesome winter hike
Part of the fun of winter hiking is finding those winter hiking trail gems. Keep having fun with your training. 😀
Sunday, February 11th: Thanks for the video. Happy Trails! Ross08
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing, you are a wealth of information! I just found your channel and will definitely watch for more and go back to look at your other videos.
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed this one.
Nice video. The only time I go camping and hiking is in the winter and the fall spring and summer. I'm too busy with work
Thanks for watching!
I went on a winter hike today… in sunny and beautiful 60° AZ desert winter weather. 😉 I am curious about cold-weather hiking/ camping but it is so hard to justify leaving such perfect weather in the lower deserts here! Thanks for the tips, always well presented & thoughtful!
Sounds amazing! Desert hiking in the winter is pretty awesome!
Excellent recommendations! I live in northeastern Oregon, and we are frequently snowshoeing in the region. All your prep recos ring true for snowshoeing, and you’ve turned me on to Purple Rain and OnX Backcountry as a bonus. Thank you!😘
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed the video and found some new gear and resources to use for your next snowshoe/winter hike.
good tips ty being in cold country now (the dakotas) it definitely has taken some getting used to VS my usual stomping ground of TX/OK/AR/LA. It does get cold there for sure but its a diff kind of cold.
Glad you found this one helpful!
Love the winter skirt! It is new to me, but actually very useful
I have been loving my Purple Rain Winter Skirt this season.
Nice tip on winter hiking and be safe from the cold
Glad you found these tips helpful.
Hey Kathleen, hope you are well. Cheers!
Thank you! Living my best life here in Montana!
Wow, nicely presented information. I’m doing the winter hiking thing this year. Don’t want to come into backpacking season needing to get in shape ever again. I bought rain mitts to become part of my gear and believe it or not, am excited to try them out.
Glad it was helpful!
What was the app for the local weather forecast? Thanks 🙂🙏
I use onX Backcountry to check the weather forecast for the areas I plan on hiking in. www.onxmaps.com/backcountry/r/thehungryhiker
