Totally outstanding Stripey lad. Arran is a very special place and this walk and camp takes in some of the best. Nice to see the longer format. Thanks and all the best!
I wouldn't go so far tbh. I think that pyramid shaped trekking pole tents are more stable in high winds. The bonfus duos has one big advantage imho to others in this category (e.g. Lanshan 2P, Zpacks Duplex,...) that it has more guy out points, larger internal space and that you can pitch it lower to the ground reducing the 'wind catch'.
Fantastic video really enjoyed that awesome footage I camped at the col between north goatfell and cir mhor many years ago so your video brought back great memories one of the best videos I have seen in a long time I thought the start of your route looked very interesting very steep I will have to follow in your footsteps cheers the people of North Korea love your channel
Thanks a lot mate! Really enjoyed our night out - absolutely fantastic. Thanks a lot for the great time, looking already forward to the next time we will meet. Hopefully I will be fitter then 👊👍
What a great trip out. I haven't been to Arran since 1990. I fished up Glen Irosa. There were adders all over the valley bottom. Had great views from Goatfell the next day and saw a submarine heading up the sea. Great place.
Thanks a lot! Yeah is such a beautiful place. Oh that is so cool that you have seen same adders, would love to see some as well but so far have only seen a slow worm back in Germany ;-(. Submarine is interesting as well but not as good as the adders 😎. Thanks a lot for sharing mate! Atb Stripey
I'm currently saving for a Bonfus tent, they look absolutely incredible (and long enough and high enough for tall people!) hopefully one day they will make a 4 season inner with them. Great video of a place I've always wanted to go. Happy hiking! ✌️
I am 1.87m long and rather big than skinny and I have plenty of space in any direction 😂. The bonfus duos has much more usable length than the zpacks for example! Yeah I see your point with the 4 season inner, even so for me a tent is just a shelter…for warmth I have my sleeping system. For me personally a 4 season tent is purely defined by its capabilities to withstand the 4th season which is in Scotland basically just high winds. I will be using the bonfus duos in all 4 seasons as it can get pitch down to the ground (good for wind stability) and it has plenty of guy out points, will it be as good as a duomid in winds? I am sure it won’t as it is the geometry which isn’t as wind cutting as a pyramid style/type - but as a person who tends to have no drama on a hill I am sure I will be fine 😉👍
That was a great trip and fantastic filming. I haven’t been to Arran for a few years so will need to get organised for a return visit. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much! Yeah is a beautiful place, want to go definitely back as well for the hills on the west side. Thanks a lot for watching Atb Stripey
Loved that Stripey😍👍..What a brilliant vlog mate..The mountains of Arran are so amazing 😍..Great to meet up as well for something to eat and a few drinks 😁..Top weekend 😁..Great video Stripey 😁👌🏻 Cheers Robert
Thank you very much! Yeah I think so to, I just really like the super rough granite and the sandy trails between the heather - is like a having the pointy peaks from the west coast mixed with the rock and trails from the Cairngorms. Thanks a lot Stripey
Thanks a lot Kev! Yeah the heat didn’t help I guess, just not just to it anymore after living in Scotland for a few years 😂😂😂. Yeah the bonfus duos is a beauty, can’t wait for the next trip - hopefully it doesn’t need another 4 weeks but it looks like that after 4 days in bed I am again ready for a walk the coming weekend 🤞
Yeah I know 🙃 I was just to warm and exhausted for something warm to eat, when I was thinking of eating my pasta bolognese it was not filled with the usual feeling of yummy, rather like: Can I manage to eat it!? Thankfully the weather gets a bit colder again, the time when the pasta bolognaise shines 😂
Nice one Stripey, think I just missed you and Robert. Was camping up Goat Fell on Sat, stunning weather, amazing sunset and sunrise, amazing👍🏴🏕⛰️👌
Quite a view up there ! I understand now what you where telling me about the heat , you where almost boiling like a lobster 🦞 🥵 . I'm not a fan of hiking in hot temperature , did it once at 32 degrees and had trouble finding water , only found a small beaver pound to filter my water which tasted like @#* 😅 , still remember it to this day ...Your tent looks nice , surprising to see so much condensation with both of the doors opened...I guess all the heat you accumulated during the day left your body 😂 Thanks for the hike , take care !
Yeah was just to warm for me as well, far from an ideal temperature for hiking. Not sure with the condensation, the next night when I camped at the Glen Rosa Campsite I had the same problem with the condensation - said this Robert and Davie had both the same even when leaving the doors wide open. Just everything got covered in dew. Will be interesting to see if this continues or if it was rather due to the weather conditions - hope it wasn't me 😂. As always thanks for watching Sylvain! I’ve said so many times over many years I really must go and do that ridgewalk on Arran but I’ve still never done it ? fantastic video mate and really inspiring me to finally go and do it !!
Hi Stripey, wow Aran is one stunning island. The views and landscape are just incredible. Thank you for sharing the info about your solar panel. I think I’m going to invest in one of those. All the best mate Dave 😀🥾⛰🏕️🏴
Hi Stripey! It was so lovely to meet you out in the hills on Saturday! I was definitely glad for the company on a hot afternoon and I'm glad you enjoyed your weekend!
Nice one Stripey , fantastic weather for Arran , i love it over there it is stunning . A nice hike mate and like your new tent ...excellent ..cheers Stevie
Thank you very much Stevie! Yeah the tent is an absolute beauty, it is just so big inside and actually surprisingly sturdy! Was assuming it would be more like a lanshan but man was I wrong. Hopefully we get soon some wind that I can give it a test in the good old campsie fells.
Hi Stripey 👋, good to see you’re back! What a fantastic backpacking trip thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us! No BS, drama or clickbait - please stay as you are! ATB
@@StripeyHatGuy yeah for me Arran is a mix of feeling like you're abroad and being back on Dartmoor when I was a kid doing the Ten Tors. Good stuff, and that bar on the beach seals the deal
Great video…really enjoy your adventures. Looked like a tough one in that heat! We are hiking the TMB in August as a family! So will be looking forward to seeing how the planning goes for your Alpine trip 😊
Thank you very much! Never done the TMB myself but it looks like an amazing trip - exciting 😎. Yeah the most planing for my trip is how much do I really need - never done a trip like this with a minimalist mindset. So far so good, got rid of all unnecessary electronics 😂
Great video Stripey, fantastic pitch you had for the night. Looked like a very hard first day to get to the summit. Worth the fantastic views though Atb.
Oh great video there man the names Spencer by the way. I'm the guy from California. You have been in the wild many times like I have. I was wondering have you ever seen a U.F.O.? I know some people think it's crazy to talk about this issue but that's not true anymore. In the United States a lot is going on about this. I mean many T.V. shows, a lot of footage is being released, and many credible people have been testifying in front of Congress about what they know and have seen. Many of them are ex-military and current military. You should look up the name David Grusch he is one of them. I saw one when I was younger and it changed my mind about many things. I heard the U.K. has had many sightings over the years. I think the public has a right to know about this.
great stuff, this musta been the same day i tried to reach suileag bothy, just brutal sunshine. its a pity you werent feeling 100% on that ridge, it looks so scary. i've climbed up to where you missed the turn, but i think the beginning of that route up the grass over the boggy bit really saps your soul. ps.packet of knorr's chicken noodle soup when its too hot to eat.
Thanks a lot. It was last weekend when I was out. Yeah it was the pre-flu I actually had (last three days in bed) and I might have made it worth with exhausting myself completely with a hill walk! The idea with the knorr soup is actually very good - thank you very much 🙌
Thank you very much! The shoes I am using are the ‘Altra Mont Blanc BOA’. A little bit more stiff than for example the Olympus but still much more cushioning than the lone peaks.
These hills are where I cut my teeth in hillwalking, Arran is spectacular but……..that path behind A’Chir feels like one of the loneliest places on earth
If you carry 3 litres up 200m that is equivalent to lifting 600Kg up I m - not considering carrying yourself and your kit - no wonder you are tired!! Fantastic views for breakfast though!!! Wow!

Those shelters are brilliant definitely the most stable looking walking pole tent I’ve ever seen
