  • We tore down the transmission in our last lesson but did not take apart the input shaft or pinion shaft.
In this lesson, we delve into the Input Shaft. We show you taking the input shaft apart and replacing the worn parts, then reinstalling the gear sets onto the input shaft. We replace all synchro rings and the dog teeth, where necessary, and bearings. You may have more or less damage in your transmission.
Watch the whole process on the Input shaft and in the next lesson we will cover the Pinion shaft.

Excellent video! Is there a part number for the tool that holds the input shaft in the vice or is that custom made?

      Scott,
The part number is P355A however they are no longer available from Porsche. You may be able to find one on eBay or some of the Porsche forums for sale
      Thanks for watching

Very good explained video, thank you! What special tool are you using, to remove the dog teeth?

    • @klassikats

The Dog teeth holding fixtures come from Sir Tools, they come in two different different sizes to fit the 901,902, and 915 transmissions

Exc video as always. Is there a reason why they are assembled dry? Is it wrong to use trans oil as lubricant during assembly?

      Michael,
Why you have to assemble the gear sets dry is because the inner bearing sleeves that slide over the shaft cannot be allowed to spin. If there is any presence of oil on the shaft or the sleeves at assembly it increases the chances of those parts moving when the should not. So Yes DO NOT lubricate as you assemble. You really dont have to worry about a dry start when putting the transmission into service as the gear sets are submerged in oil.
