"Forest Swords, aka electronic producer and composer Matthew Barnes, presents the original score for 'The Machine Air', a film by speculative architect and director Liam Young. The first film to be recorded entirely on drones, it premiered in its original form at BFI London Film Festival, and has been screened at the likes of Sonar Festival and Eindhoven Bienniale.
Edited and sculpted into 14 tracks, Matthew Barnes' score mirrors the film's cut and paste claustrophobia: smeared sci-fi synth and beautiful distorted melodies rattle alongside metronomic rhythms and stretched samples, rewiring the hums of flying vehicles into warped and contorted sound design.
‘The Machine Air’s soundtrack navigates the tension of this tech in our lives: drones simultaneously used as autonomous killing machines or aid delivery vehicles; surveillance robots or Amazon shopping tools. While Matthew Barnes’ previous work has retooled organic and human sounds into modern electronic worlds, here he pushes and pulls the music into beautiful, more dystopian shapes, combining with Young’s visuals to give a chilly glimpse into the near future."
The cover art features an image of a police surveillance drone by Haw Jia Jun.
Listening to this album while looking out a tall, second-story window in the Marc Favreau library of Montreal, watching the snow fall around the workers next door as they smoke cigarettes, walk around the massive construction site, and operate their giant, robot digging-machines... The entire scene, normally so ordinary, is rendered strangely intriguing and mysterious, elegant and cinematic.
beautiful moment
@@jelkafabianova2801 Your reply has brought me back to that moment! Sitting here now, in my quarantine summer-cottage in upstate NY, it seems so long ago... Ahhh, the pre-COVID world.
Wish I was in a library in Montreal
Forest Swords is an innovator.
Excellent. Very 2020.
Many realities intertwine at all times. We are all part of others plans and dreams, both conscious and subconscious.
Amazing as always, so cool to hear him explore new sound territories. Love how cyberpunk this sounds and for a film soundtrack/score it hangs together really well. Looking fwd to more (and bigger) film scores from him and a new album hopefully....
excellent dronewave
Very well done, Matthew! Exceptional as always!
opening track is powerful. very true to the current times.
Lets get it !! nice
Great album. Well done!
🖤
This is a melon-safe territory, cause he doesn't ever appreciate electronic music beyond the basics.

...What?
When you will release new album? you are awesome!
Where can I watch the movie?
That's what I'm saying. You google the name in the soundtrack comes up, but not the movie. I'm starting to wonder if they just made the soundtrack and are hoping someone will make a movie with these sounds lol
@@formidablefriend8228 If you'd actually read the description you'd see it's a film, recorded entirely on drones, by director Liam Young that's being taken to film festivals.
@@formidablefriend8228 nah these are some visuals from the film he used in the Swarm video - ruclips.net/video/bLbQpV-_zoU/видео.html. Apparently it's getting a release online later this year
@@johnyixcks I did actually read the description. I just couldn't find the video, so I said this as a joke.
Dude, where is this film? Can't find anything.
Looks like it's only been screened at those two film festivals mentioned and hasn't been released online
Yea it's apparently just film festivals/art festivals at the moment
Asking the same thing. Would love to see it!
