My old and NEW WHEELCHAIR! | Comparing Meyra and Panthera

  • Meyra was my first ever chair, that I was given by the government, it’s a base model and though it is technically an “active” chair, meaning it is meant for people who can get around well, it is still quite heavy and bulky. I wish I was provided with more information when I was getting the first chair, as, not knowing what I’m getting into, I assumed that all chairs are the same. Of course, this is also an older model and Meyra definitely has grown and expanded their selection since then.
A couple years later - now, I’ve learned a lot about different wheelchairs and technologies that can come with them. I found out that I can get an almost funded wheelchair and only have to add the difference. We all know that wheelchairs cost thousands and this one was no exception. I’m sure that the video depicts the intricacy of the design details that go into producing a chair and making it work fluidly, making everyone’s lives easier.
This is a very general video comparing the base types of what these wheelchairs are. The lightweight Panthera wheelchair has definitely made my and everyone around me lives easier.

Congratulations for this huge Upgrade! I am currently waiting for my 3rd Panthera (an U3L) while my first Panthera X is still in use from time to time after 13 Years of service. That one will not live for much longer though...

Much better! It is very much like my Kuschall. No one should have to settle for anything less!

always feels good getting a new chair. Ive been a full time chair user the past 11 years, but so far I haven't made the jump to rigid frame. I hear alot about how great and light they are, but as someone who gets in and out of his car alot, I find foldables just so easy to hop in my car, reach out to pull up my seat and its folded. I then lift it in over myself and place it either in the passenger seat or in the backseat. Its a TiLite (I forget the model) and weighs around 30lbs but Im very used to the weight. Who knows though, Im almost due for a new chair, which will be my 3rd and perhaps its time to try rigid frame. I will say the maintenance on a foldable can be a pain.
anyhow, Congrats on the new chair. Love the video and your channel. Keep up the good work!

Wow, 30lbs! I guess for a moderately strong person it's doable, but it got really hard for me to move around at all, and everyone was saying that my chair [old one] is quite heavy. It was hard to pull me up the stairs too, more dangerous. I encounter a lot of stairs.
I think you should try rigid, yes, it might be wider as a frame but it's so light that it makes up for the lack of foldability like in the foldable chairs.

I don't know how you do it. 11 years aswell. After I got my car always used rigid chairs. Now I got panthera u3 light 7kg, I need 20s to get it in my car. Go for a rigid one you will never turn back.

I also use a rigid one to get in and out of cars. Foldable would be impossible for me because it's still too big compared to a rigid one where you can just remove the wheels and you're done. But as long as you don't have to remove the wheels on a foldable wheelchair, it's probably the better choice.

This video is a year old but just showed up for me. That Panthera looks nice. Are you still using it? I liked the removable and retractable armrests, folding push handles. Little things add weight and that adds up in a hurry. Still lighter than my quickie titanium. Anyway, RUclips algorithm found your vid for me. Maybe, you'll see and reply. Take care...

I think you were very lucky getting the one you got from the government, I have been a wheelchair user for over 40 years, I am now 50 and very active, independent wheelchair user but NHS you get what your given basically and there not as nice as what you had.
