For me, I just can't overstate how easy it is to get pretty decent at recognizing certain things. You only need 2 things, to recognize and understand, and to play and sing, once you've seen your fingers make that sound you'll have it ingrained!
I LOVE this channel! Probably my favorite. There was so much helpful insight and information given here. Before I even began learning how to play an instrument (6th grade, clarinet), I was VERY conscious of harmony, sounds and the initial vibe that seemed to touch all the senses -- especially if heard something I really like, (lots of Bachrach, Brasilian, what I now know to be suspension chords, etc). A life long dilemma for myself is I've allowed the study of harmony (and transcribing) to intimidate me, viewing it as a discipline only a 'select talent' can comprehend, (THAT'S what knowing a few kids the same age, and younger, with perfect-pitch potentially do to your confidence. I felt so inadequate because I didn't possess that particular skill). However, I've recently nudged that fear to the side. At just before my 60th birthday, I decided restart my study of music after a 20+ year hiatus. I've since incorporated ear-training and singing pitches into my practice routine (saxophone). It's actually starting to pay off. That said, I'm pleased that 'Dan', the caller, inquired specifically about improving hearing chords within a tune. That's a real obstacle for me, as well. Peter and Adam... the indepth knowledge and insight derived from the show is invaluable, but your chemistry -- the friendly and familiar back and forth-- and general laid-back vibe of the show, is simply addictive. Didn't think I'd stumble across a channel as entertaining as that Beato guy, but I was wrong (rim-shot!!) Thanks again., and much continued success. Peace
You can not say enough about listening. I may not play or no theory well enough, but what I know helps me enough to apply what you are saying. Mainly, O am a singer. Thanks again.
