From 1952 Curacao in the Caribbean Sea hosted Nl No.1 squadron with 12
Fairey Fireflies on HATO airbase( Dr.Albert Plesman airport).In 1957 the Fireflies were replaced by Grumman Avengers followed in 1960 by Grumman CS2A Trackers. In 1971 the old Trackers were replaced by Grumman S2N Trackers. In 1974 Nl Squadron-1 was disbanded. The task was taken over by a roulating detachment of three(3) Lockheed SP2H Neptunes. 1981 the first Fokker F27 Maritime (M-1) arrived followed in 1982 by M-2. The Nl Airforce took over the task. Later P3CII Orions were stationed on Hato. Since 2005 leased aircraft and helicopters have performed the Curacao coastguard tasks.
