    I left an abusive marriage a year ago. I had no bed or furniture. I was given my dresser,2waterford crystal lamps( brothers who passed away),2 comfortable chairs. I bought cheap end tables. I had a tv & reading lamp. I was able to use $ I had to buy a very comfortable new bed. I now live in studio apartment with HUD.my rent and electric very low. I’m living on disability. I love my apartment and minimalism. I am very happy here with my cat.Everything organized and I know where everything is. I have used minimalism to help me live on low income. I had big house,nice car,$$$,credit cards,a very maximumalism lifestyle. I was not happy & drowning in debt. I am much more happy with no car,no credit cards,smaller place. I’m grateful for these podcasts.Very helpful in achieving my new life.

    My partner and I will add items to our Amazon cart, review throughout the month and purchase only during the 1st of the month. We usually take out items we thought we needed. We’ve found that the convenience of same day shipping had us spending a lot, and majority for convenience. This has helped us be on the same pg for minimalism and spending habits.

    So since I discovered you guys around a year ago, I have been listening in on the podcast and have become much more content in life now that I’ve taken on the minimalist approach. Funny thing is though, my husband (of 16 years!) is a minimalist. Always has been and I never really knew it 🤦🏻‍♀️
    Poor man was living with a stage 3 hoarder!!! Anyway, suffice to say, we are now very happy living our minimalist lifestyle, paying off debt, being content and not wanting for everything but instead valuing what we do have and most importantly valuing each other and our son. I have gained invaluable life skills through your sharing of this really cool approach. Thank you 😊

    I absolutely understand second-hand but you have to be careful because matter is charged : it bears the imprint of the emotions around it. If you buy a chair belonging to a lonely and sad person, especially if they've had it for years, you will let those negative feelings enter your home without realising and soon enough you will start feeling sad, etc. Second-hand objects need to be cleansed, energetically, before entering your home. It's like resetting them to zero, like new objects.

    Always buy the best quality you can afford. It will pay off in the end, because you won't have to replace that item as often. Also, purchase art directly from artists instead of buying mass-produced "decor" from big-box stores. Quality art will hold its value, whereas tchotchkes depreciate as soon as you leave the store. Better to spend $500 on a painting or sculpture than $500 for ten $50 dust-catchers.

    My take on the 30-30 rule, As I'm changing my shopping habits, I'm too obsessive about stuff to only do 30 hours I tend to do a week and that gives me enough room to actually look at an item objectively and decide if it would add value to my life.

  • @alicelee5045
    @alicelee5045 2 года назад +11

    I love the 30/30 rule. I have been doing my own version of it over the years. I find if I wait long enough, a sale comes up or I find a better alternative. I think this is an outcome of having less money available to make impulse purchases. I like the idea of buying second hair good quality or high end pieces. The pandemic has greatly affected manufacturing of goods in general so looking for pre-pandemic goods makes good sense.

My son was talking about changing furniture and decor in my house (where i do not live, but he does), and i felt a twinge of longing and sadness as i put some much of myself in the house interior (construction and decoration both). But i love my son more than my design, i must let go of my material attachments so he can feel comfortable with his own design.

    I did the same I let go of the people who were affecting me - letting go of the toxic friends, toxic diet, the bullies, and being by yourself is far better, no distractions, wear Black for best, cut the clutter in the wardrobe, cut the spending, invest in art history and education, far better for your mind and your self awareness - going into nature - so much abundance what we have - respecting what you have and keep what is best. Books I love as that goes up in value. I love Book Depository and The Bullet Journal Method.

      I never use coupons, don't need to if one shops Grocery Outlets and buys their WOW deals, I also shop the bulk bins at Winco, and just about everything else comes from two local NON-CHAIN type thrift stores, I've saved an absolute fortune by shopping this way. I very rarely buy anything from Amazon or anywhere else for that matter. Oil changes are cheap at Walmart, and are far and few between, because I consolidate my errands and drive far less now that petrol prices are so high, and I have basically prepped everything that I need at this point, or can grow or make it myself with materials I have on hand.

    The first step before I purchase something expensive, like tools or machinery, I ask around the neighborhood. I don't have to own it, because most of these things are rarely needed.
    Then I buy used things. Here is a super nice designer sofa worth over 8000 Euros. I could buy that for 350 Euros, the owner had to get rid of it, because of his move. It is also very high quality leather and looks like new.
    The same with clothes. So many beautiful things are offered, I benefit from the abundance of other people and partly also from their buying addiction.
