#REM #bangandblame
Just stepping into REM at 41 years old. Yes, I have said many times in the last few weeks "Why haven't I given these guys a chance". Better late than never ! Enjoying the ride.
Don’t feel bad. That’s how I feel at 32 years old. I remember my parents listening to them when I was little but I never paid attention nor appreciated their music
I know that feeling when it comes to other great bands I wish I had given a listen to sooner. I'm 57, and although I've loved R.E.M.'s sound since I first heard them when I was around 20, I've only recently discovered a host of other great bands - The Hoodoo Gurus, The Feelies, The Dream Syndicate, and The Church. I have to admit, the Internet and sites like RUclips make it much easier to discover new music than it was back in the day.
One of the finest bands of the last century, no doubt.
It definitely happens I find music that I only heard because of radio but now I have a different point of view
44 and kind of the same boat..., all I knew was radio songs, which I've liked.., now, I am starting to realize what I've missed 😢
one of REM's best songs
Hard to choose
@@markfromct2 yea I can listen to whole albums.
It seems the radio has forgotten about R.E.M. What a shame. Still my favorite band EVER.
You have good taste.
The local "rock" station I have here in Philly (93.3 WMMR) whips out 'The One I Love' every so often; occasionally 'It's The End Of The World As We Know It' too. That's about it.
20-30 years ago, you couldn't turn on that radio station without hearing at least 6 R.E.M. singles in the day's rotation.
In the UK we still get the classics on mainstream non pop stations regually... but there early stuff will be never be heard which is a shame, 90s ,20s they still were bloody amazing lol
Mine too 30 yrs now still the best and always will be that's fact
Seen ya vids mmmmm you hot
These guys were far ahead of their time. Stunning song.
you clearly have picked up a fashion expression which is a disgrace of people like Leonardo da Vinci who actually were ahead of their time.
@@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet It's not a disgrace if you understand a little something about context. REM were ahead of their time musically and lyrically in the context of English-language popular music of the tail end of the 20th century. Leonardo da Vinci was one of maybe a handful of people in human history whose life and work continue to inspire and provoke centuries after his passing. He's timeless.
Agreed
I was there 🇦🇺👌
@FlickanIDetKroktaRummet you Jesus, you're abrasive.
If they don't play this at my funeral, I'm not going...
I'm pretty sure you'll be there anyway.
Masterpiece. One of their best masterpieces.
Underrated!
Quiet and explosive at the same time
Like I said in my comment, it's Losing My Religion with different lyrics and electric instruments. But it is a great song.
I am amazed this song only has 5.8 million views. This is one of the best 90s songs ever made.
Happy Birthday today(January 4) to Michael Stipe. Cheers!🥨
If I was ever asked to "sum up the 90s with one song" I'd just pop this on. Still puts me in a place all these years later.
Love it!
Berry, Buck, Mills and Stipe
Guarantee of awesome music
Great band, & i am 70 years old & still love their music.
No one gives a fk.
One of the best bands out there hands down.
Too bad they retired.
THIS was the song that truly, finally got me into R.E.M. One of my all time favourite bands ❤
Bill is such musical drummer, he always plays exactly what the song requires but also has a flair and feel that’s understated and expressive at the same time. No easy feat that. R.E.M. never sounded like R.E.M. after he left and for a drummer that is such a compliment.
He wuz an amazing drummer. Do you also know that he wrote the song "Leave", which is one of their best tracks. Very underrated when he's actually among the best ever in rock n roll
Have you heard about man named Ringo?
@@nenadcrnac3472 Yep, Ringo from the Beatles ya mean huh
@@aravindshenoy9103 oui
Totally agree they were never REM again without Bill
This has such a haunting sound to it! It’s raw and amazing !💕
Very mesmerizing and enchanting.
It's an amazing song and Monster is hands down their best album!
My fav band 30 yrs one regret never seen em live big mistake
@@andibathgate7662 I saw them once, it was on the Green Tour. My regret is not seeing them one last time. My all time favorite band as well!
Karen, I noticed that alot of their songs are.👍
Very underrated album. Love the guitar sound they used for it!
the guitar sound in this album is great and can still be a trendsetter for new inspirated bands
Very underrated ? This album was number ONE in USA, UK and many others countries, bro.
4x platinum in USA...🤔
Awesoome Delay on The Guitar.
@@rustedcorpse5645 😍😍😍😍
I've already commented once - but I watch this video every day, so, you know - I've concluded that this is REM's best song ever. Man that's saying a lot. And while I'm expounding, no one has a more distinctive, compelling singing voice than Michael. OK I'll shut up now.
You're probably right. They peaked here.
A timeless classic. Most people can relate to this who have been involved with another human intimately.
Hi I recommend listening to a couple of songs called 'Where I Come From' and 'Covid19Jam' By Robert Nix
you got that right! many people can relate and know "this person" described in the song....all too well.
Good call Egg 👌
Monster (River Phoenix dedicated) is a masterpiece! What's the frequency Kenneth? Crush with eyeliner, Bang and Blame, Tongue, Let me in (Kurt Cobain tribute), I don't sleep i dream, Strange currencies (Michael Hutchence tribute), Star 69, I took you name live (r.e.m. live video), Circus envy ( live at Olimpia video) are some best songs in R.e.m. catalogue! Five stars!
Love that guitar with delay on the verse sooo much👍
One of the 20th century studio tricks that you never hear in music anymore, presumably because most music is assembled in computer programs now.
Souvlaki Space Station anyone?
And tht bass guitar.
I MISS YOU REM!! COME BACK!
River was THAT special, after he died MANY artists created songs about/tribute to River. It's like every single person in this world loves him dearly. He must have a gentle heart and a beautiful soul..
@@catr4435 who said that? 👀
I think it was obvious they were romantically involved despite stipe always said he was "my little brother" I mean almost all the songs he wrote about him was love songs. And the fact that stipe visit river in Utah and stay with him for few days to accompany riv shooting his movie dark blood despite stipe busy schedule to prepare new album said enough. Lately stipe said he spent 5 years grieving him. And 'at my most beautiful' the only love song stipe ever wrote about river too, the clue was all over the lyrics. The video even staring riv's sister Rain phoenix.
Monster is such a great album. I'm glad it's getting more love over the years because when it came out people were very critical of it. My favorite r.e.m. albums are automatic for the people, monster, and adventures in hi-fi. They took risks on those album without losing their voice. When my band opened a R.e.m. tribute show we had to choose from a list of songs (the headline got first pick) and this song wasn't taken. Hell it wasn't even on the list! So we opened the show with this song and the crowd LOVED it!
My choice of albums too 👍
Also my favorites
Everything about this song is great. I especially like Mike Mill's harmonies. I always like Mike's harmonies on every REM song however. What a band.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS EVER!
LOVE EM!🤗😘💖
Bang and blame and crush with eyeliner are 2 of their best.
👍
I’m so glad that REM is being played again after 25 years! Michael Stipe is full of energy in his videos.
he's no busta rhymes but hes entertaining enough

Walking way from the mic....there is nothing else to say. Able to describe so many emotions in one action. I described it as "epic" before. Epic was slang. It is the style of an amazing poet.
Definitely a favorite. I came up listening to music through the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. Not so much with music today, but each decade had so much to offer. My now 40-year-old son once complained to a friend about how his Dad had more of his generation's music than he did. Love R. E. M.
This is R.E.M.'s best song I think. I would have liked to hear Nirvana cover this song.
yeah, me too...
ME 3HREE
R.E.M. has so many good songs. It is hard to choose which one is their best.
Yup. Slow-fast-slow.
Secret life of indiscreet discretions... oh?? 😉
Classic REM… underrated song and rarely played on the radio.
Always been a fan of REM, this is one I've missed but as always it's a masterpiece.
REM were the quintessence of rock alternative with this kind of track..
I think many musician were hoping to be even close to their music
Monster is REM at their best ever...their peak. NO discussion
Automatic to Hi-Fi was such a brilliant era for R.E.M. Easily their best,
Jan/Feb 1995. Good Times!!
Completely agree!
This song reminds me of the breakup of my marriage and the bittersweet friendship that came afterwards.
R.e.m. my favorite rock band..
Miss those days!
This popped up last week on my RUclips playlist. I hadn't heard it in at least 20 years. Time flies when you're getting up there!
Crushing blistering refrain-none of the heavyweight heavy metal groups have anything on this.
Same here , found it tonight :)
En mí caso, yo siempre la tengo presente a ésta canción. Ya que la veía en MTV. Recuerdos que parece que fuera ayer.
❤
I woke up today and for some reason I wanted to hear this song. And it has been years! All of a sudden I just had t o hear it. Strange how our minds work! Absolutely love R.E.M. This is one of the best songs ever!
The music will bring us come together. Love R.E.M 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶

This is such an Incredible song!! I wish I could’ve gotten the chance to see it performed live.
REM is one of my favorite groups to this day ! I was entranced with them back in the 90's
Masterpiece.
R E M Forever!
Fall of 1994 when this album came out and I’m listening to this song in my 1983 Mazda RX-7 driving home from work on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago during my first year of teaching high school English after finishing grad school. Such a magical year!
I like this story
One of all time favorite songs.
Got this album in 94 from Columbia House records as an 8 year old. Used to take baths exclusively.. this gave me a half hour in the bathroom with the tape player. Put that thing on the toilet lid and rock out to this album
REM music is just genius. Even the dog loves it.
Love this song. It's about Michael Stipe's relationship with River Phoenix, and how he knew that Hollywood was killing River and that he needed to get away from it. He tried to persuade River to come to Atlanta for awhile and just make music. I wish it would have turned out that way.
"I'd turn the screw and leave the Screen..."
Interesting. I always thought the song was about Courtney Love.
I bought the Monster album...I was 15....still I fell like I m 15 even if I m 37.
Which album was that.
@@georgereed3293 the monster album, lol
I was 13
I hope you feel 15 forever !
I'm the same way I always say I'm forever 16 even if I'm 37
The guys who had the grace to go away quietly when the game was up... unlike U2
REMbacher guitar! 😉🎸💥
Love, love, love this song. Takes me back to Ann Arbor, Michigan 1994-95. Got this CD the day it was released!
Cool
There are certain 90’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
One of those songs that reminds me of playing my radio low all night in my bedroom. This one especially reminds me of hearing music while half awake and half asleep at 3am.
The 90's are a boss son. You'd be well advised to keep the 90's out of your mouth.
Ahh, bleep77 the old hypocrite. Commenting the 100th song with the same text...
@@Zerschmetterling-pg3ph “This is definitely one of them”. What part of that statement did you not understand? “There are certain songs...” Songs, not song. Learn to read before making dumbass comments like the one you just made. It’s my comment, and I can put it anywhere and anytime I want, loser.
Yes it does for me to
A super gem of Rem highly underrated!
I love this song. Year after year. Bang after bang. Blame after blame. All the feels.
I can remember the emotion 30 years ago while listening this song with my walkman. Just the same that today...
One the best ever. At times, up there with Dylan, Velvets and Bowie
One of the best bands , great music
i loved this song so much when it first came out
Here listening to my fav group last day of 2020. Wish all REM listeners a better 2021. Play it Loud and Proud.....
Never tired of this! $$$$$
This song is just about perfect. We did not deserve REM.
2019 and still love this.
2021!! Not forgotten by those who choose not to forget!
102 Degrees Have we Got the Fever The Drama makes me a Believer A Tantrum of Pain, Rises above the Love Help me understand , Dear elevated Consciousness- Like Fine Wine, REM gets better with time
I miss this band..especially in these times
Miguel Torres could you imagine the songs they'd be writing?! So sad we will never hear them.
Me too :(
You know it! I have to leave them alone for awhile, but when I find them again it's like Bang!
Still loving REM in 2021, anyone with me?
Definitely
2024 am 75 years old still crazy about REM. With love Danielle❤❤❤
Brings back old memories.
Just rediscovered this song.. Monster was not my favorite album of theirs.. but this is a great song. Underated in my opinion..
'It's not my thing so let it go.' How creative and awesome is this?!✌️
I miss *this* REM
I remember this song on the french radio in the 90" when i was Young, very good song
I was very very very young. This song was in top 5 that days .
Every man gets a sense of what they felt and where they were in life when they heard this song for the first time...its not only the lyrics but melody that strings and twists the emotions
REM was epic.
That Peter Buck guitar is awesome what a song
Love this song!
Love this
LOVE this band, this album, this song!
Shame they never expanded on the musical direction they where going on Monster. Excellent album and song.
They did. That album was called New Adventures in Hi-Fi.
@@jonathanlee8930 And it's a heck of a lot better than Monster, tbh.
It was a bit of an experiment with Harder Rock and a lot of Back-Tracking. Playing music backwards live is difficult. And the album did not sell as well as their previous two. I liked it though. But New Adventures In HiFi was better. At least to my aged ears.
RUclips sometimes is like a time machine🙏 Thank you REM
Let's just admit. This song is perfection. Greetings from Slovenia
Stipe and the band at one of their best efforts. Meaningful ditty to say the least. great post remhq. Thanks
Avrà detto : c'è un altro a che piacio 😊😊😊 vi seguo già da 25 anni , se non di più 👏👏👏👏👏👏
me encanta este tema.
This one is so good.
Excellent cut off my favorite REM album.

R.I.P to the dog. Sweet lookin' thing. R.I.P. to R E M!
Great song by one of the greatest rock band ever.

Awesome band!
if you play the bass such a cool riff to learn.
que cancion tan poderosa mistica,y consecuente con la decada .
This is a big song.....................it carries a lot of water.
