Genesis Entertainment was founded as a syndication company by Gary Gannaway in 1982. They introduced the concept of barter syndication, which is still in use now. Ronald O. Perelman, owner of New World Communications, acquired 50% of Genesis from Gannaway in 1993, and the remaining stock in 1994. The company was defunct in 1997, but Genesis International was founded afterwards by the former CEO of the old company, Wayne Lepoff.
