Assalamu alaikum. I was wondering about a topic that has been bothering me for some time now. I’ve watched your hot seat about niqab, and I too believe that is obligatory. However I have a question. Why is it that certain things in the religion are clear cut and need no discussion but certain things are up for interpretation? For example, one of the biggest topics is how much a woman has to cover. Allah has made it obligatory to cover...but then there is so much “confusion” on how much to cover. Some believe the face and hands is permissible to show while others believe just enough for the woman to see...some say the women of the time of the Messenger s.a.w were veiled so that they were unrecognizable but then there are statements claiming that some of their faces are shown...so why do you think that is. This type of thing worries me because the general Ummah takes their understanding of the religion from the scholars but when there is difference in opinion on obligatory matters how do we figure out what is correct? And Will we be held accountable on the day of judgement for it sense we have been warned about being careful who you take your religion from? If Allah tells us to cover..and some women wear just the headscarf due to their understanding while some cover their faces and hands due to their understanding is it both acceptable in the eyes of Allah swt? Do you believe He allows these different interpretations in order to test us on what we will do? Or because He doesn’t mind which opinion we choose to follow as long as we know it’s obligatory to cover? I think this often about obligatory matters that have difference of opinion and it bothers be greatly. Like prayer for instance..we all know it’s obligatory and if you don’t pray you are not Muslim...but then in the prayer itself there are different interpretations on how to do it properly...some say you have to raise your hands at certain parts..some say you don’t..etc etc...so is it acceptable to have these different understandings and is it okay for people to do different things in the religion especially in regards to the obligatory matters? Please if you have the time to answer this question I would greatly appreciate it, Jazakallah khair
I have asked this question to some people who have studied Islam formally and have not received an answer that I feel completely comfortable with and I believe that the brothers on this channel might be able to help me with these thoughts that I am having.
I have been told that as long as the scholars do their best to understand the Quran and Hadith and things like that, that they will be forgiven for any mistakes they have...so I understand this...but still I wonder why certain things have been made “ambiguous” while others have been made extremely clear. And if we will be held accountable for these types of things and what should we do to make a decision when there are differences of opinion.
