There is a reason why classical music seems eternal. It is both timeless, and re-interpretable, and it speaks to us through the greats in every generation of musicians. Play on maestros and bards, dreamers and fools: we are listening with our souls.

The 2nd movement of this concerto is so lovely. It is everything music should be--inspiring, uplifting, moving. Ray plays it beautifully. And, his "Waltzing Mathilda" always makes me tear up ( I'm Australian, living in the US.) Considering it's basically a song about sheep rustling, that's a testament to Ray's playing.

The recording is a little botched. It sounds like the violin is mic'ed up in a separate closed-off room or somewhat 'closer' to what is hearable and sounds squeaky 'glass-like' at times. Dunno what record technicality makes that happen, but it doesn't sound lifelike to me. No doubt, of course, that Ray Chen and the orchestra plays so fantastically energetic!
