      I know, I get so jealous, because it feels like all my friends have normal skin because they hardly use any skincare products, and always have perfect skin and rarely get acne if they even do get acne. It's really frustrating because I have combination skin which I feel like is one of the most difficult skin types. But, I actually really like working on my skin a lot, and having skincare products. I would really like to make skin care products as well.

    I just want to point out that the grease our oily skin produces is NOT hydration, but a barrier to prevent the skin from getting even more dehydrated. Hydration is water. It's possible and common that people with oily skin have very dry skin underneath the grease, because their skin lack hydration. Love the video and you gals!

    According to what I learned in Cosmetology class, sensitive skin is not a skin type but a skin condition. Therefore, any one of the other four skin types can also include sensitivity. You could have dry skin that is also sensitive etc. So it's possible to have sensitive skin regardless of whatever skin type you have.

    • @sunshine1983
      @sunshine1983 5 лет назад +63

      Just thought I'd throw that point out there.

    • @beautyfullyopinionated

      I'm a licensed Esthetician and just to clarify there is a difference between sensitive and sensitized skin. Sensitive is actually more genetic because it is more internal than external. if someone has rosacea or eczema, they were born with that condition and they will always have sensitive skin because their skin is always gonna be more vulnerable and unable to tolerate certain things, because it is lacking something internally no matter what. Fair people also get flush super easily, I would consider that more reactive than sensitive (but sometimes its both) and it is genetic, thank you northern European heritage! Sensitive can also be allergic, ingredients like dyes and fragrances are often added to products and many people are simply allergic, also genetic. Sensitized is purely environmental, like if someone never moisturized they will have comepletely obliterated their barrier and it is now sensitized by anything (even moisture) Sunburn is sensitizing. Waxing is sensitizing. Vitamin A is sensitizing. But it is something external causing a temporary heightened reactivity. Whether its a condition or type products absolutely can help, but the internal vs external is what makes it a type vs a condition. Sensitized being more appropriate for condition of the skin in my opinion.

      Well mature skin is a skin condition as well not a skin type because you can be oily as well as have mature skin. So the skin types are oily dry combination and normal, the rest are skin concerns/conditions. but don't forget about the fitzpatrick skin type scale because that is very important as well, and the fitzpatrick scale has six skin categories from the pale-est skin tones all the way up the the darkest skin tones.

    Growing up I was always told I had oily skin. When I was younger a woman who gave me a facial said I had such DRY skin, but when I told my mom she said "no, you have acne so you have oily skin. That's how it works." So I figured my mom knew better.
    Years later after abusing my skin with drying soaps and treatments and toners I realized I have dry, acne prone skin. I thought having skin so flaky you can't even apply makeup was normal. I was using cheap night cream under my regular day time moisturizer because it was soooo bad. But I had acne and every website said "oily skin causes acne because of excess sebum". Now I realize my skin was probably so dry that I had cracks in my skin barrier causing bacteria and stuff get in. I still have big pores but I think that's just because both my parents do, doesn't mean mine produce a lot of oil. I even googled just a couple of years back after I made the switch away from drying, oily skin products about if you could have dry skin and acne and several websites claimed "its so uncommon, are you sure it's not just dehydrated?" So I was never sure.
    When I applied the blotting paper after waiting it didn't even stick at all. It stuck to my lip balm I had on but no oil at all. I could only find a couple of tiny little dots here and there.
    Nothing else. I looked up dehydrated oily skin and apparently it is oily but feels dry and tight and gets flaky. Nope. Not to say I never produce oils but man if this isn't dry. I have to make sure I exfoliate and moisturize my whole body regularly or it gets pretty bad.
    I guess I'm like a unicorn, but worse.

      I HAVE YOU SAME SKIN!! My skin barrier was completely damaged, so im assuming Your skin barrier needs repaired. I would focus on skin barrier repair with serums(the ordinary makes a barrier support serum and I use a cica toner water as well) and only spot treat acne. Try using cosrx 95 galactomycines and cosrx snail mucin toner(I think its like 96% snail mucin). For the spot treatment, something like Kate Summerville spot treatment works well(it's a bi phase that you don't shake, you dip a qtip in it). I know there are cheaper ones too, quick Google should find one- they need to have Sulphur basically. Use gel moisturizers, especially ones with high amounts of glycerin and aloe leaf juice. Clinquie moisturize surge in the pink jar is great, again there are cheaper options too. Hyaluronic acid isn't as good as glycerin for oily on top and dry/dehydrated underneath. Look for combo skin products. I know it's a lot of steps, but as you repair you skin, you will need less and less. I started with all those steps twice a day and now I can just do them at night and have been able to rotate products. I also have hormonal acne on top of all that too, so I feel you.

    • @demonninetaledfox
      @demonninetaledfox 3 месяца назад

      @@funsizedi88 trust me i already have a routine now that works. my skin barrier is healed but its still dry. i just had dry acne prone skin but for years every skincare stuff you could buy was focused on sucking all of the moisture out of your skin as possible because acne=oily skin by default.
      i also don't use any over the counter spot treatments except for the occasional pimple patch (that just sucks the gunk out, not any that are medicated). I gave up as none of them really worked and as I got older I developed rly painful hormonal acne. So I went to a doctor and got put on tretinoin and I've been almost entirely free from acne with that and medication/supplements for hormone balance. It was irritating to go years with over the counter stuff that did nothing until my acne became absolutely painful only to find out I was supposed to go to the doctor instead of wasting my money for years on stuff that wasn't working. But I'm glad it's better now.
      Now I focus on hydrating ingredients, especially because tret can make your skin even more sensitive and dry. But now I feel free.

    • @funsizedi88
      @funsizedi88 3 месяца назад

      @demonninetaledfox oh I'm so glad that you got it all worked out! I'm sorry, I thought you were currently suffering. I know it's not always easy to get to a derm and insurance sucks with covering the cost(been going thru that battle myself recently). I know how bad it can be to have hormonal acne and your skin type, as I'm going thru thr same BS right now. Tret worked OK at 0.25 but not much better than OTC stuff I was already using my doc didn't want to give me a higher dose until I'd been on it for 6 months, and with my insurance, it was costing me $120/mo btwn co-pays and prescription costs.

      Best thing is to have a "plain jane" mositurizer aka no active ingredients in your cleanser and moisturizer, i would do a more creamy cleanser and slightly heavier moisturizer in the winter, and a foaming, ph balanced non stripping cleanser in the summer with a more gel like, lighter weight moisturizer. Sun screen every day, acid based exfoliation 2-3 times a week, and a serum will be your best friend for anti aging. You could also do a more anti aging moisturizer at night also.

      Your skin is most probably dehydrated. Not dry, not oily, but dehydrated. It was an eye-opener for me, but this is what causes overproduction of oils in flaky dry as desert skin people like us. Focusing on products that help holding water has improved my face loads.

    This video opened my eyes to a lot of things I was doing wrong! Thank you so much for the info girls! :D
    After watching this videos I feel like I'm probably a combination + dry and sensitive skin, my forehead and nose are oily and my arms and cheeks are red and blotchy and everytime I shower it looks 5x worse! I do have dandruff as well especially in the winter. I've always been terrible at hair and skincare which is why I watched the video. I'm going to get rid of my foam cleaner I didn't realize it was making it worse. (One time I used perfume, very first time, it burned my skin soo much, I took 3 showers and it still burned and was itchy! Never have I used perfume again, only body mist and on my clothes not my skin!)

    What if my T-zone is oily *and* flaky at the same flippin time ? 😭😭

    • @lorelaikane3353
      @lorelaikane3353 5 лет назад +77

      its dehydrated, the oil you produce yes keeps your face "hydrated" but to me it sounds like you need to steam your face. This will prevent those flakes and the more often u do it the less flaky it will be for that period of time. To steam your face u boil a pot of water and pour it into a bowl, then take a towel and put it over your head while u lean forward and put your face above the bowl for 5 minutes. The towel should trap the moisture into the air and then it has no where else to go but your face and condensation will occur, therefore apply the hydration back into your skin. While you do this it should feel almost like a sauna on your face. Once the time is up rub in the the excess water collected onto the skin and moisturize and this should fix the dry flaky patches for the time being. However i do not know what to do about your oil production because personally i have normal skin but its been on the dry flakey side lately and this is what i do to help reapply the moisture back into my skin. Honestly i recommend this to anybody with any skin type cuz it is also used to unclog your pores.

      I’m not an expert by any means but from my experience, I think so. I’m 22 years old now and my skin when I was a teen is way different from how it is now. During puberty, my skin was super sensitive and would flare up so easily whenever I applied any sort of acne treatment except for a small few products. My skin was also producing a lot more oil and i got bigger breakouts as a result. I believe both were due to my hormones going haywire during puberty. Whereas now, my skin feels more dry and it doesn’t seem to be as sensitive to products as it was before.
      Those this question also makes me wonder about women and AFAB individuals who are pregnant? They also undergo dramatic hormonal changes in their bodies and that could lead to changes in their skin too!

      Alaina Andert I think the one calling the kettle black is the one with a ugly heart. Your narrow mindedness can not comprehend my intentions. I dismissed freckles simply because there is a movement of freckles beauty where products like ink tattoos that is highly toxic gets permanent inked to created fake freckles. Natural freckles by all means but it is a medical condition of higher cancer rate for skin which should be taken care of with sunscreen applied religiously. I call it ugly because in Asian culture and for the matter this is a Korean video, freckles, pigmentations are a disaster for all of us. Instead of calling me names understand our culture that it is abhorred and the medical issues behind that. In my opinion it is ugly in your opinion it is beautiful maybe because you have it. If even one spot happened on Asian skin we would go to the dermatologist to resolve it ASAP. Here in Korea it is a common practise to go into the clinic once a week for facials etc. Freckles in your opinion is pretty, cool, but preaching it is nah why? Freckles is a skin condition in medical terms and that is my thinking. Your mentality of me being jealous is ridiculous, you following and watching Asian skincare should understand we value glass skin, porcelain clear skin etc. But that said I am sorry if you feel offended and I am sorry to everyone else who were offended by my views. I stand by my views where freckles isn’t a nice thing simply because of the fact that it is more susceptible to skin cancer and at the aesthetics point of view asians do not love it unless in western white washed cultures. If you truly love freckles I think Asian routines am not really suitable for you since aha, bha, vitamins etc are usually used to lighten pigmentations and freckles is a pigmentations and Asian skincare values crystal clear skin so if you don’t get that your on the Asian perspective side of things then let me remind you once and for all you have your views great I have mine and I do not mean to offend you till you greeted me with offensive text I merely replied and said it as a skin condition why so sensitive.

      JAYJAY oh dude her having an issue with what your saying was probably that you said medical issue but it’s ugly which yes I totally get what your saying bc I’m a redhead and I can’t go out in sun very much, your right higher chance of skin cancer. No one would call a medical condition ugly. If you truly say it as an issue to be aware of saying it’s ugly makes you seem like a negative person over the internet when you may have not meant it in that way. so I get what she means. a medical yes but it’s not something to make fun of and “call ugly” maybe you do need to open up your eyes.

For years now I have been using AVEENO cream on my whole body including face and eczema actually disappeared after using it for over a year. I still use it, but now I can actually enjoy other, nice smelling creams and can experiment with my face skincare as before I would not be able to put anything else on my skin as it would immediately turn red and burn. So I am pretty late into the skincare world, but enjoy to discover all the products that are out there. I have combination skin. It goes from oily in the T zone and dry for the cheeks. And then it decides to change up where it is dry and oily. When I have the skin care routine that works for my skin (not stripping, hydrating) my skin evens out and is more normal and overall happy. It took a bit to find something that works and to actually listen to what my skin needs. A lot of testing and trying out different products to see what my skin likes🙂

    Usually the reason with people having oily skin is because of their cleaning routines. If we don't use moisturizer our skin produces even more oil to help our skin. We can also use ice to remove oils on our skin. As for skin that is too dry some use ice or wash their natural oils off daily and don't realize this. This will make skin appear sensitive. Now for others who have sensitive skin and breakout easily I would suggest using a foreo luna mini and rose water to exfoliate skin. Don't press down just gently clean in circles for about 1-2min every other day or atleast 3 times a week.

    Thank you so much.. I suppose I have adult acne because during my teen days I never had acne, blackheads, whiteheads.. My skin was so clear and good. But, now, I have skin problem... Probably due to hormonal changes.. I don't like it anymore..
