I whas 22 when I came as a german migrant to Sydney. Its long ago now. It whas my best time. Thanks for refreshing my memory. Bloody hell, what a good time I had. Working and living. Now back in Germany I have something to remember. God bless Australia.
The golden days of my youth! Can't help thinking that life was so much simpler and enjoyable then; certainly much better for an Anglo Saxon Aussie teen. I wish I could turn back time and never leave ...
Sydney was a much different, and much better place in those long gone days... Ahh what memories of Hydrofoils, old Sydney ferries, red single deck trains, and the buses!
1) Mute sound. 2) Look up a video of Russell Morris' "The Real Thing" 3) Start playing Russell Morris from 3:13 in. Builds up to an awesome crescendo, and really seems to capture the spirit of late 60s/early 70s Australia!
Sydney had a New York style urban rawness that is missing nowadays.Rustic infrastructure that added warm character to this metropolis and with far more layed back culture than now.I am lucky I got to enjoy a taste of it during my childhood in the 1980s.Then the 1990s arrived and the end was nigh. The sterile feel set in.
Dear Old TrainSpotterX. When you were born there were just as many people who remembered and missed the old pioneer expeditions to Manly and Dee Why. . Time has this same affect upon all generations. cheers. from, del-boy.
wow wht a clip'''the best days Australia back then,it had allready started to move there was no slowing it down till this day'''i rekon the aussie govt show this clip to all new entrants to the country'''''' those days are gone my friend,,,
I miss the old days!!! Where common sense is enough and OHS didn't exists ie. trains not closing doors while in motion and it was lots of fun those days before technologies!!
well, well, such is life. I went back to Germany because of my ill father. And after he died, I was looking after my mother. So time went on. 1987 I went back to Aussie for holiday. Again 1988 and the last time 1995. I turn 70 this year and maybe I make it ones more, I reckon, to come to down under. I take it easy now - no worries, - I love Germany - my first love is Australia. Well, the first cut is the deepest - fair dinkum.
Caution - this film shows working public transport, and may induce depression and anxiety in persons who currently reside in Sydney. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor or take a short holiday in Singapore or Japan.
Hydrofoil was so cool. Don't recall the red one though. Amazing to see the absence of damn graffiti and stupid 'Tagging' by brainless vandals. I think people had respect for themselves, others and Police then. What have we become now.
i know! how dare they have FOREIGNERS there? how rude of them. although, in a completely different matter im sure you're welcome in the country you now reside in. nothing like a little bit of multiculturalism!

My father worked on the ferries when this was made...I'm going to show him this, he'll go nuts!
so many memories my first year after school!
I remember going to school on Sydney's Northern Beaches, on those Atlantean buses. This was in the early 1980s.
This is GREAT stuff! I'm glad I stumbled upon it. Brings back sooooo many memories of my youth. Fantastic!

Loved the miniskirts :-)
You walk in Sydney city these days, and you feel like you're in a foreign country. I miss the Australia of old.
I'll take this any day over the traffic we currently have
...except for the lead in the fumes, and the smog from the briquette furnaces - that's better off in the past.
wish i could go back in time
a gentleman was sitting in the trains compartement calmly reading his paper and smoking his pipe. (How civilised was that ...!!)

Music is awesome....I wonder who made it?
No centerpoint tower at the end. This must been filmed sometime in the 60's- early 70's?
Yep 1971.

Seriously crap quality.
One of the early uploads unfortunately. Based on standards that took account of poor bandwidth etc.
