Meaning of Ashtalakshmi Stotra
1. Adilakshmi: This verse praises Adilakshmi, the primal mother goddess, who is revered by the wise and noble. She is described as beautiful, golden, and honored by saints. Adilakshmi grants liberation and is the source of Vedic knowledge.
2. Dhanyalakshmi: This verse extols Dhanyalakshmi, who destroys the inauspicious elements of the Kali Yuga. She embodies the essence of the Vedas and emerged auspiciously from the milky ocean. Dhanyalakshmi is worshipped through chants and resides on the lotus, granting auspiciousness to her devotees.
3. Dhairyalakshmi, praised in this verse, is adorned with supreme glories and is associated with Vishnu (Vaishnavi) and Bhrigu (Bharghavi). She embodies the essence of chants and grants swift results to her devotees. She expands knowledge, removes worldly fears, and relieves sins, offering refuge to the innocent.
4. Gajalakshmi, the destroyer of ill-fate, is loved and grants all desired results. Surrounded by symbols of power such as chariots, elephants, and horses, she is devoutly worshipped by the trinity of Vishnu, Shiva, and Brahma. Her feet provide relief from all distress.
5. Santanalakshmi, who rides a bird and holds a divine wheel, enchants and develops love. She is the essence of knowledge and possesses abundant qualities. Wishing for the welfare of people, she is worshipped through songs adorned with seven swaras and is revered by all beings.
6. Vijayalakshmi, residing on the lotus, grants good birth and develops knowledge. She is worshipped daily and honored in places adorned with kumkum. Revered by instruments and by gurus like Shankara, she is praised in the Kanakadhara Stuti, offering protection and prosperity.
7. Vidyalakshmi, the goddess of the devas, is honored by humble worship. She is known as Bharathi and Bharghavi, adorned with pearls and gems. With a smiling and peaceful face, she grants nine types of treasures and removes the undesirable aspects of the Kali Yuga, offering desired results through her hands.
8. Dhanalakshmi orchestrates rhythmic sounds with the dhundhubhi instrument and conch blowing, creating a sweet and majestic atmosphere. Sincerely worshipped in the Vedas, epics, and history, she is the guide revealing the path of spiritual ascent enshrined in the Vedas, offering protection and prosperity.
