Ecthelion doesn’t get enough credit for all he did during the fall of Gondolin
There’s no credit for the Silmarillion period.
Forreal! People always cite Fingolfin as being the mightiest of the Elves for his feat of duelling Morgoth before the gates of Angband and his defeat and death in the process. And this is fair enough but I think Ecthelion of the Fountain should get a similar amount of credit for vanquishing multiple Balrogs before taking down Gothmog their leader with one hand broken (albeit also perishing as a result). Fëanor couldn't deal with multiple Balrogs without dying, neither could Fingon. Just to put things in perspective.
You sound like your from middle earth wtf are you talking about
@@justinmingham8971 Tolkien wrote the story as a prelude to our own history.
A badass till the very end and at one time fought multiple balrogs at the same time.
Kinda just sounds like he fuckin hated elven leaders. Like specifically.
Finally, someone the Dwarfs might find agreeable.
Wasnt much else around at the time
@@AnarexicSumo ur comment is underatted lol
an elf stole his girlfriend, probably
I think everyone else *but* Elven leaders steered clear of Gothmog!
Imagine how Badass the elves were back then when they could challenge 1v1 epic Duels against Balrogs
Feanor was really crazy, he fought all the balrogs at once for a long time before he was killed, a single one would have been simple.
@@burstcity3832 That fucker is a hole roller-coaster ride. But he is by far one of the strongest elves in Middle-earth.
imagine tulkas vanquishing multiple balrogs in one battle.
@@ir8free they fled before him
@@hurin_thalion11correct..in his approach he sounded like an earth quake..
The Fall of Gondolin is so cool. I love occasionally relearning and learning new things about Tolkien lore.
Man. I wish we could get some of these incredible battles on the big screen. 1st and 2nd age had amazing wars, and stories.
Instead we get to see the fleet of numenor numbering 2 ships sailing to Middle earth
@@charleskilleen2141 It was THREE 3 ships! how dare you forget the loss of the third ship🤪
Ecthelion is such a badass. He killed 3 balrogs and the Lord of Balrogs himself before going down. Perhaps the strongest elf ever
Not stronger than Fingolfin who fought Morgoth himself.
@@shriharihudli eh. Didn’t fingolfin ride alone to him and get killed?
Don’t get me wrong-impressive he went toe to toe with him and wounded Morgoth but he didn’t win the battle. Ecthelion bested 3 corrupted Maiar
yes, and Tulkas the most badass Vala.
Sauron might have been the more manipulative & intelligent out of Morgoth's generals, but Gothmog & Ancalagon were the true power houses of his army
Sauron before the one ring, yes. Sauron with the one ring i would say was more powerfull, Thats just my opinion tho.
So they were mitochondrias? :)
@@Lord_morningstar193 Sauron with the ring was defeated by Isildur. He didn't gain extra power from the ring, he poured most of his own power into it. So when the power of all in ME vained, his endured within the ring, but it wasn't enhanced.
@@marcusgaius sauron was defeated by elendil and gil-galad who also died fighting sauron. The movies made isildur the one who killed sauron.
@@Lord_morningstar193 You are right, I phrased it that way because of the movie. It's not explicitly said who made the final strike Sauron after which it was possible for Isildur to cut off the ring, but it's somewhat agreed upon that Isildur taking the ring is what caused Sauron's apparent undoing.
More epicness and lore in one minute of compiled pictures than a 700 millions dollars season.
Should’ve said how Ecthelion killed Gothmog-kinda cool way to go out with you opponent. Ecthelion kills Gothmog by driving the spike of his helm into Gothmog’s chest and diving into a fountain with him, effectively killing the both of them.
Ok so maybe I have a bad memory, but I thought it was Glorfindel that killed Gothmog? Or was it a different Balrog he killed?
@@badwolf3618 different one! Glorfindel killed another one when the elves were fleeing from Gondolin.
@@StormTrooperXsV Yup, and he was one of two Elves to be returned to life, he was the one who rode out to meet Frodo. They should have kep that in the movies, Glorfindel was too powerful to go on the quest as the forces of darkness could sense his coming.

@Southern Cali Why bother, its nothing like the depth and continuity of Tolkiens.
@Southern Cali Its definitely not better ;-)
It's a pretty big omission to not mention the second balrog that held down Fingon with a whip, allowing Gothmog to kill him. Before that happened, Fingon was handling Gothmog just fine.
If he was killed how did he kill gothmog
One of the Fall of Gondolin drafts says that often Gondolindrim parents used to scare wayward children by saying “Gothmog will get you, if you disobey mom & dad” Only Morgoth was more feared in Beleriand
Sauron was the most feared one after Morgoth. Tolkien describes Sauron as "The greatest and *the most terrible of the servants of Morgoth".* So no; Gothmog, other Balrogs or even Anchalagon the black were less feared characters compared to Sauron
@@_semih_ He was feared more for his cunning and powerful manipulation skills rather than his brute strength.
Fingolfin was my favorite for riding up to Morgoth like" aight bitch, let's settle this shit, right here right now."
The resemblance between Gandalf’s death and Ecthelion vs Gothmog is uncanny

Deceit runs rich in Tolkien stories tis hard to tell without Elven eyes and Gandalfs nose
Great video. I also love the fact that Tolkien was more interested in creating the history (and languages) of his world then creating another trilogy, I believe they just call it the unfinished Trilogy which his son has respected and refused to publish or finish and publish. I think the only info is in the letters and called Dagor Dagorath, it’s on wiki or if you search it on RUclips they have an in depth video about it from how it begins to the return of the dwarves to fight and the end of Arda cause the Valar basically had grown in a way bored and the fight with Melkor who found a way to return to Arda that battle reinvigorated the Valar and rather then banishing him they killed him.
You, my friend, are doing a service by throwing light on the history and the lore of Tolkien. Keep up the good work! 💪
He's truly doing Eru's work.
"Gothmog"-good name for a metal band.
Write that down! 😏
Search any black speech on Metal Archives, there’s 10 bands for each
More 'goth' maybe than 'metal'. The Cult?
@@icelara5972 there's a long standing tradition of naming metal bands after Tolkien characters and settings
the best moment in the 'Fall of Gondolin' is the way Ecthelion takes out Gothmog
"and so he who had fought amongst such fires, passed in cool waters"
Gothmog didn’t want to experience what morgoth did with Fingolfin so he had another Balrog gang up on Fingon
Well, multiple balrogs gang banged feanor too
Finally I get the recognition i deserve

Where did you read the silmarillion from?
@@immanuelpauu582 its from Tolkien and the book has been out for 20 plus years. You pay for it on the internet or borrow it from your local library. Physical copy is the best if you want to read over and over again.
@@johnstaton5524 yea I've heard about the books .. I'm a huge LOTR fan but I don't have the money to read the books lol and our local library don't have them .. so I was just hoping you were reading it online for free or something..but thanks for the heads up..much appreciated
@@immanuelpauu582 - I literally just picked up another copy at a thrift store today for $2.
“Both combatants died in the fight”
That seems to be a trend in balrog slayings.
I believe it was the whip of Durin's Bane who caused Fingon to fall and die in his fight against Gothmog. That's my theory anyway. Echtelion avenged two High King of the Noldor. A glorious achievement.
Of note: Fingon killed 80 trolls by himself before Gothmog showed up to finish him off. I remember him being my favorite of the 1st age, for not only that feat, but also for working together with Thorondor (king of the eagles) to save Maedhros, who had been captured by Morgoth and hung by his hand from the mountain Thangorodrim. This act led to Maedhros ending the feud between the sons of Feanor and Fingolfin and his descendents.
Wish I had your voice.
Even my memes would sound intellectual and full of wisdom. 🤣
This seems like a mythological folklore more than background on story written by a author. I love it. Keep up the good work sir
If there is ever a silmarillion film it would be one of the greatest battles in middle earth movie history
You should do a video about how each hero and villian's powers scaled in their universe
Ecthelion was very weakend during the battle with gothmog bc he had fought his guard firstb and killed them all
Just imagine a series about Feanor!
I really appreciate and love these shorts! Thank you
Hurin pretty much cursed Gondolin and the forest kingdom to the south because no one could save him or spare his 2 children’s fates
Thanks buddy. I missed this one
So gothmog took out three powerful elves that says alot his rumoured to be saurons equal
Great artwork 👌🏼
Black Flag is my second favorite A.C. title👌🎮, second only to 2.
AC 2 is my fave assassin’s creed as well! Ezio is tha man!
Any chance we get films or a series set in the 1st age. It sound so epic, literally battles of Angels vs Demons.
The problem is an army of assholes will shit all over it complaining that it's too woke or something.
It'd be epic if we ever saw a silmarillion movie just to all of a sudden hear a howling wailing roar and all the heros eyes light up with terror as gothmog crests a hill croned in shadow and flame conjuring flaming weapons from thin air.
I would love to see a show about this age. Probably needs to be in cartoon/anime form due to the cost of making it.
Wasnt there an Orc also called Gothmog that was a general(?) during the siege of Minas Tirith??
It has been ages since I have delved into this wonderous lore.
Yes you are corrext!
Yep he was the general with the shriveled left arm.
Fun fact his appearance was based on Harvey Weinstein.
I modelled for that Alan Lee image of Hurin on Thangorodrim, amongst others.
Early elves were something else
love your vide man, keep it up!
Thank you! 😁
Keep up the uploads please!
I can just imagine Gothmog's dark hand reaching down to lift Hurin, the flames on his arm going out just before he takes him in his grasp. God I wish they would have adapted the Silmarillion correctly...
instead we get a "billion dollar" abomination.
Yes but the chance they butcher it completely is way too high... :'(
So the lessons here you come at King you best not miss

What Tolkien book or books does this take place in?
The Silmarillion, my friend. 😀 Thanks for watching!
If a combat hardened lord of the Balrogs can be defeated by a mere elf then why did Gandalf have so much difficulty handling a lesser Balrog?

Thankgod amazon dident try to remake this timeline
fyi guys, in the books balrogs are only slightly bigger than humans, they aren't towering beasts like in the movies
Right, He killed Feanor after Feanor had been fighting all of the other Balrogs for some time and was not losing...all of them! think about that.
Also when they went to mutilate Feanors body it dissapeared in a flash of flame such was the fire in his spirit, Feanor was the greatest of all Elves and most likely would have defeated the Balrog that Gandalf kiled quite easily, the only other being in middle Earth that came close was Azaghal the Dwarf who forced a dragon off the field after it had killed thousands of Elves, Azaghal did it by himself.
This is the TV series I want
Fast forward some ages he changed his name and started causing havoc under his new allies Diablo.
Oh man where are these awesome pictures from
Gothmog the balrog, servant of morgoth. Such original names
What I don't understand is why all these powerful creatures and characters always want to just cause havoc? Like why even waste your time running around griefing cities? Everyone strong should just agree to meet up somewhere and have a big fukkin fist fight. No magic no crappy rings no special staves or trinkets.
Mind yo business

can we talk about how elves of the first age are basically demigods
Wasn't Gothmog the Balrog a character in a Dr. Seuss book?
Sooo Gothmog is the one that we've seen in LOTR Rings of Power Episode 6 or 7? When the dwarf king drop the purified maple leaf
Ecthelion already vanquished Gothmog.
That Balrog awaken in Moria was "Durin's Bane" in the 2nd Age.
Was it gothmog or the witching known as the king killer, or am I mixing things up, also it's kinda funny the similarities between the two, you can see sauran kinda copy some of morgoths stuff
Gothmog only kill FEANOR because he has 100 Balrogs with him.

I would consider myself not a reader of the book. So can you tell me WHY Gothmog did what he did?
I might be an idiot but like where does all of this LOTR knowledge come from? Like is it all in the three main books/hobbit? Or are there other books?
Not sure he finaly met his match in Gondolin
Considering it took him and multiple balrogs to kill Faenor. In a 1 v 1 things might have been different
Am I stupid or does the captured guy look exactly like the meteorguy from rings of power?
Gothmog ang Mothgod knew Gothgod and went to Gotham to a gothrave and met gothmoms, mobs and morgoths. Or something.. a lot of goth.
I’d watch a trilogy based purely on the fall of Bereliand
