This kinda made me question what crazy sunnuvagun thought stacking concrete slabs at a 70° angle on an excavated dirt hill was gonna be possible. Sure the crashes are crazy and exciting, but that's a whole lot of money being wasted on broken parts when I'd rather be cheering for dudes who made the full run, at least if anything broke they made the hill get a chance at money to fix stuff.
The future will be merging these trucks and Tesla's cold gas thrusters. Hit the face hard, before you flip over, shoot the thrusters to give you front wheel grip, and climb over.
I love the hill climbing and the obstacle hill climbs but this wall is just ridiculous! The only thing the wall is good for is to see how fast you can break your machines!

@MadRam11: How much is "not that much" please? I'm not scared at all but pretty sure i can't afford a "part of this sport". Meh. Seems they should have engineered this a bit better to where it was difficult, but not nearly impossible. They could have still made it every bit as exciting.
Real hard to set a wall at an angle that is super challenging without being impossible. I reckon the trick would be to hit the wall doing a wheelie that matched the angle of the concrete.
I reckon with enough tries and a lot of luck it’s possible (just) although the run up doesn’t help my theory. Theory is, wheelie up to the slab so all 4 wheels hit the slab together compressing the suspension giving you a ton of grip for a split second, then give it everything. Tap the brake when rear wheels get at or near the top to tip it forward, and give it everything again. Just a theory, don’t crucify me if you disagree. It’s how I would attack something similar on a trials bike, oh and I am no Toni bou either!!!!
Yeah the run-up might be worse than the wall itself. The wall would be doable if the runup didn't angle down the nose and force that front suspension pop.
Phil John your idea is exactly how i thought of it too, and by the looks of the way the other drivers kept trying the same technique and failing by punching it with no actual plan, im pretty sure it would work
scmroman It's less time but more expensive parts. Once you build the frames they hold up pretty well and are ready to weld. Trail rigs tend to be harder as people have to work with/ reinforce what they have. You can get a tube chassis for about 6-7 grand. Aftermarket on the motor, drive train, axles is not terrible...shocks, springs, and 4 links gets painful.
I’m always impressed by these beastly contraptions but I can’t imagine building a quarter million dollar machine to willingly just destroy it while risking injury To each his own I reckon
It's about proving you can do the impossible...there have been many lines that were "impossible" and have been conquered...you just have to approach it correctly and with the right equipment...well they have the equipment...they just haven't found the perfect line yet.
There is no "perfect line". It is a flat surface with no variations. Hit it left, center, or right there is no difference. No one can "do the impossible" so if they did it then it was not impossible. The angle of this wall does not allow for any momentum to be transferred in the correct direction to help them get up the wall. In effect they are just ramming the car into the side of a building and expecting for the car to go up instead of bouncing back which isn't physically possible. Add the fact that the wall is steeper than the roll angle on the bouncers and you have something that is literally impossible.
William Barker we will just have to wait and see these are bouncers and do insane things every time they go out. Someone will get up that incline albiet very steep. They just need a good bite when they bounce up and get to the top. You'd be surprised what vehicles can do. And there were a few in this video that propped themselves up against the wall. so it isn't past end over departure angle.
12:23 if it's not past the end over angle, it's *really* close. He landed almost square with no throttle and still went over. Unfortunately no one put the rears on the wall all the way before throttling so it's really hard to tell. EDIT: 15:03 has one guy all wheels to the wall and the front left is pulling off the wall if he gives it any throttle. Like you said though we will have to see and being pulled over an obstacle by the fronts is possible if they can get the majority of the weight over the top and just drag the skidpan. I don't think it's feasible to get enough forward momentum on the front end to get that much of the chassis over the top though. The longest wheelbase there only cleared the front 1/3erd. I would be willing to bet that eventually someone will get over simply because each attempt they make rounds the dirt out at the bottom of the obstacle. Sooner or later it's going to make enough of a ramp for them to maintain forward momentum.
