  • In this video, you will learn about the nursing care of chest tubes. Chest drainage devices are used to restore negative pressure to the pleural space and drain blood and fluid using a chest tube. When a chest tube is inserted it is necessary to connect it to a negative pressure device such as a chest drainage device. This short video on Nursing Care of Chest Tubes is a great review for the CCRN and PCCN certifications.

I searched and watched several videos about chest tubes and this is the first one I found that actually explained how the chambers connect and work together. This was VERY HELPFUL! Thank you so much!

What is the purpose of the middle (long) tube in the 3rd chamber (the chamber farthest to the left)? Why does it have bubbles?

I was stabbed 4 years ago. Not too deep but they inserted this for safety. The most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my life was this tube going between my ribs..
