#BMW #i4
As a former owner of 4 BMWs - the thing that always set them apart for me is the active driving dynamics - how they HUG the road and swallow up the bumps and imperfections… so far all these EV reviews are focused on the EV specifics only, and now the car specifics. Tesla 3 is a notorious rough ride, and model Y not much better. Noisy too, but getting better. I expect a LOT out of the driving feel of a BMW product.
HOW DID IT FEEL??? How did it drive?? How did it swallow curves, handle the sway? A performance car should exhilarate you coming out of a curve, and not just when punching it on a straight away.
just finished my eDrive 40 1 day test drive. It is very stable on bad roads or curves
BMW is really making great moves in terms of EVs with their recent models! Great review, thank you for sharing! 🔌⚡🚘
This is a nice car, but i wonder if it has good resale value like some of the other ev's.
yes of course, considering long delivery times, used ones will be in demand
How tall are you? I'm 5'9" and after getting in the back nearly cutting my head off at the throat with the rear window I can barely sit behind my self and my head touches the roof. Did you push the the driver's seat forward? Good thing I don't drive from back there.
I have the i4 eDrive 40 on order. Lots of reviews say it's a more balanced machine. Would love to hear your feedback if one becomes available to review.
took the 40 for 1 day test drive. M50 power is not really necessary. The 40 is very fast
How long is the wait?
I have the M50 on order. Tried both - and no you don't need the extra power,....but I like it 🙂
@@kjeldras That's the way it is ! There are many things that are not necessary, but we like them. And then as we Italians say……you live only once in your life. ;)
Try launch with sport boost
Bravo, Tommy. This i4 does look good, actually. Even the twin lungs at the front fascia seem to work somehow.
Would love to see you guys compare the handling of the EV with the ICE. You can really feel the 5,700 lbs of car when steering the I4 e40. The weight lowers the center of gravity, but I wonder if this comes at the expense of traction in high-speed maneuvers. I want to know if I can expect the I4 to maneuver as well as the 3 series in a pinch.
There is a problem with deliveries because the wiring loom was manufactured in Ukraine. Mine was due in June, at present it does not have a build date.
Same here. Ordered in Aug 2021 and still no production number for me
Question for TFL EV, have you heard about the FF 91? They are being manufactured in Hanford, Ca.
Beautiful car. Is that painy minera white ot alpine white?
What do you think the estimated depreciation of the BMW i4 2022 car over 2-5 years will be? My research suggests 30-40% but this is an EV.
No chance it’ll hardly depreciate it won’t drop below 40k until 2030
@@12Mojo top-of-the-line model is nearly 80k so if it was cut to 40k after 8 years that is about 50% depressication
Thanks for the great, informative video, Tommy! Love the new i4! A big improvement over the i3 I used to own.
yes, but also completely different mindset/car! lets see if they can claw back some owners from Tesla.
@@laloajuria4678 Agree!
I just test drove this (currently have a MachE GT), even though the MachE is bigger I was much more comfortable sitting in the i4 at 6’4”. I also looked at iX which I didn’t mind at all but I thought it was way overpriced
Just went to the BMW dealer yesterday and learned that the i4 base model doesn’t come with heated seats... gotta have to pay 9400$ (CAD) more with a package of other unnecessary stuff if you want that basic heated front seats 🙄. Not to mention that the package doesn’t even include sunroof... I still ordered cause it’s the best looking EV in the market right now, but my wallet will feel sore later 😅
@@fvnt0miix953 in the US heated seats, heated steering wheel, and interior LED lights can be had for an added 1k USD
@@bostondan77 Interesting, the MSRP in Canada is lower than in the US, but the base model has no moonroof (not even with the 9k package), only Alpine white 0$, and you're right!!! The premium package is only 950 USD!!! I think BMW knew the Canadian government's incentive plans before the consumers knew and intentionally lowered their price for that 5k incentive, but added an extra zero to that package.
Thanks for the info!
@@fvnt0miix953 when did they say it will get delivered?
@@filfil9090 end of 2023/early 2024. The salesman showed me that info on BMW’s website. However, I wonder if they will raise that premium package price. I read somewhere that the package cost 7k in Dec 2021 and now it’s 2k more...
I hope to see some i4 eDrive40 videos soon too. M50 is cool and all, but most people will really care about the more affordable version
Is this model Alpine White or Mineral White Metallic?
I would take this over a Tesla every day of the week and twice on Sunday. But then, I can say that about any CAR manufactured EV.(except chevy) It is nice to drive a proper car from a manufacturer that has the heritage of making cars. I respect the Tesla battery range/performance, but that is where it ends.
Yup, this works as a perfect luxury GT car. Perfect premium luxury for everyday driving. If you have to have a track car, get the M3/M4, blows away the Model 3, and even beats the Plaid around the Nurburgring.
I love EV's but I hate small cars. Hard pass on this bmw. Unfortunately electric full size trucks and full size suv's are hard to come by
UGLY Nose and WAY overpriced at RWD $55K and AWD $66K base price. Otherwise nice normal BMW looks and nice interior. Did I see a hump in the floor looking at the back seats? $77K for the model tested is hard sell vs ICE version IMO.
There are batteries in the hump
The I4 uses the ICE model 4 body, so there is a hump down the middle.
go for the i4 eDrive40 instead
No
We need a Lexus GS F with same level of technology and speed lol
Can't wait to test drive it
Its not the best looking in the line up, have you seen the 8 Series? But yes it's better looking than the Tesla, better quality and it's just a more premium experience.
530 hp is not useful.
Giving thumbs down on the ever popular generic trap beat playing in the background. That crap has to stop
Low 200s for range is nuts considering the Model 3 has a smaller battery but a 350+ mile range
Awesome vehicle
i have driven this and model 3 performance, and i prefer model 3 anytime over this bmw. model 3 much more nimble, faster , lighter, longer range much longer range. and telsa charging infrastructure second to none. there really is no comparasin. if you look at all details.
I highly doubt you’ve driven this car.
I agree, the Model 3 is 600 lbs lighter and that aids performance in all areas.
It has far superior tech and obviously the Supercharger network is a major advantage.
@@blackvr4tt All I heard was praise elon, to the moon.
@@trainingtheworld5093 why. I have. it's at my local bmw dealer. It's a nice car no question. But Tesla is better
@@tonyn3227 Nope, Tesla feels cheap. Is noisier, worse ride, worse quality, no HUD, no laser lights, no Carplay, no individuality on interior, exterior colors, wheels , tires, anything close to BMW. Which is too bad since Teslas are like Corollas around here. Quicker? They tested a .09 sec diff 0-60 in the head to head. And the BMW can trap over 120 mph, the Tesla can't. So my common 60mph-100mph freeway speed runs will walk the Tesla.
BMWs evanescent logic - no rear frontal airbags! These would demand some cognitive capacity far from M-badges !
Shockingly UGLY you mean?
Maybe one day BMW will make a proper electric car, this is just a total excuse....
It really makes me feel sick thinking about how people who are already wealthy enough to buy such an absurd vehicle also get a 7500 tax credit. They shouldn't have made the tax credit apply to anything over 30 or at most 40k. We shouldn't be funding people's luxury toys.
Not everyone buying these are that rich. We work extra hard and personally I wouldn’t consider this car if there’s no EV incentives. The government wants to achieve their Green Eco goal, so you can’t not include a car because “only rich people buy them”
Btw, these “wealthy” people also pay wayyyyyy more taxes than poor people, so in the end, they’ve made their contribution and it’s equal for everyone.
These people are the ones funding the research and development of these new cars.
@@fvnt0miix953 "These wealthy people also pay wayyyyyy more taxes than poor people"
Steve Balmer & Jeff Bezo has entered the chat 😂😂😂
@@retiredtidepodeater3339 I'm talking about "normal wealthy" people like doctors, lawyers, engineers, local businessmen, etc. Believe me, where I live you pay >40% taxes if your income exceeds 100k. I think these people deserve a little EV incentive lol
Wealthy people can also afford to buy the expensive fuel cost of a combustion version…gotta incentivize us somehow or else the climate continues to suffer.
you lost me at “electric”
grow up
must be sad always being picked last.
You know this is TFL…. EV😉
On the plus side this is in its infancy. They may fix the silent engine note problem down the line if they want to expand there customer base.
