I am from India, i have farm land to fence. The concrete poles are 6 in*6 in* 9 feet about 120 kgs very heavy with 2 hooks at 3 and 5 feet from one end. I need to get the Poles erected with 3 feet depth and 6 feet above ground. Now there is no electricity around, and i need to use mechanical advantage as an aid for lifting these poles. I will be able to modify this design of Tripod and use the ropes to lay the poles. As i write this, a perimeter of 2700 feet is to be fenced and i have bought another piece an " Hand wrench / Come along" with a 2 hook 9 feet to pull with my 4 wheeler - the soil is Black cotton, so my 4 wheeler may get stuck some places. All in all i will use this contemporary ( not at all primitive) method and i will benefit from this idea hopefully.
Excellent demo Cody. Thank you, I can think of dozens of ways to use that method to lift darn near anything. Just need a tripod made to fit the weight requirement.
Enjoy your video's! I sail and rig 19th century replica square rigged ships, and we use many of the same principals to rig these ships. In the 19th century they would erect "shear legs" basically the same thing you have here but massive, using two of the ships longest spars, they would be lashed together at the top, and the "feet" of them would be spread to the maximum width of the deck. The top would be supported or "stayed" in every direction by multiple blocks and tackle, there would be wooden chocks nailed to the deck around the feet, and block and tackle set up taught in both directions on the feet to make slippage impossible. This would be set up over the hole in the deck to sway onboard the lower mast section and install it, which would weigh thousands of pounds. There would be a large triple pulley block and tackle hung under the top of the shear legs to haul the mast up with. Quite an impressive operation. These skills are ancient and can be made to be useful in so many ways. I'm a bit biased being a rigger, but you can greatly increase your versatility by carrying a small block and tackle in your tool kit with a fairly long length of appropriate sized line, a pair of double sheave blocks that are 3" blocks will fit easily in the smallest of kits and can tremendously increase the force that you can exert by yourself or with multiple people, and can be used in conjunction with many of your other setups. a pair of doubles will give you 5:1 mechanical advantage if the load is attached to the hauling end, and 4:1 if visa versa. I know this is meant to be more or less a channel utilizing not so many man made tools but with large shear legs cut from old trees and a small tackle you can move heaven and earth, and the possibilities go up exponentially! Here is an example of what I'm talking about. This method was used on everything from little revenue cutters to 1st rate ships of the line with 100+ cannon. www.penobscotmarinemuseum.org/pbho-1/sites/default/files/collection/Lifting%20Main%20Mast%20with%20Shear%20Legs.jpg
Very good video. And the way you showed tying the knot was very nice of you. Most won't come to the camera and let us view the technique like you did. The techniques with the tripod is great when you need to move large boulders out of the way or even fallen logs over a road when you don't have a chainsaw with you. Which most wouldn't if they were in a survival situation. Thank you for this great video.
i have an appreciation for this kind of techknowledgy (spelling ?) any how cool thats some fun stuff.good job also ! and i like how you look forward to the possable hardest part of the job, untieing knots lol. yep ive spent more time untieing knots than it took to get the job done. it happens even at times with good knots when a heavy load is stressed. keep up the good life !!!
Darrell Lee you both need to learn a bit more about knots. As John Strauss pointed out above, a good knot does not come untied until you want it to, and then is easily undone. You already know how to make loops in a rope using the alpine butterfly, that’s impressive. With just a clove hitch and a bowline, you have the basics down. Since you’ve just shown us how to lift heavy objects with a tripod - thank you - I’m sure you will appreciate knowing how to gain the mechanical advantage the trucker’s hitch offers. It’s all out there on the wonderful world of RUclips. Also, you may want to check out "theparacordstore.com" for some useful items related to working (and unworking) knots with paracord. In the meantime, a small knitting needle will help you untie some of those knots you’ve already jammed up.
Cody, In general your choice of knot should depend on ease to tie, function, and ease to cast off. If you have trouble untieing a knot use a different knot. Although you probably know this after all this time.
Very clever and well explain it is in a class of its own I will be doing this with 5 or 6 m typod thanks and look forward to keeping in tuch good luck👍
Surely, rather than the two loops in the rope going down it would be easier to place you long pole over the top of the fulcrum that the tripod makes and then just have a rope on the end of that tied to the load. iIf you are wanting to move the load you simply push down to lift and then rotate the pole to move. The tripod would be positioned to one side of the load and not over it.
You mentioned the farther apart the knots, the farther you could lift, but the closer the knots, the more weight you can lift. Lift a little, block in place and lift again.
Ok dude. When you have a knot that tightens so much that you can't undo it, simply make the knot you wish to use and just before it is almost taut slip a piece of material such as a sapling, a stick, a branch, a nail, a wrench, a fid or anything that won't break, right in the synch part of the knot and let the rope do its job. When done twist the knot and the "tool" you stuck in, and remove it. Any knot now can be untied easily. Good luck
Pretty cool. I am wondering what if you use just two legs instead of tripod. This way you can move the load one step at a time to the direction you wan to go, and there won't be the third leg being in the way. Just lift and move, lift and move, lift and move, and so on.
Im not sure I like you drinking that water, even with a filter straw! But it seems like a cool product and it is good to see you on screen again! Ill be there starting mid March for two months and hope to see you in person
When you make the next manual, show first the desired function without explanation. Many people see its structure and purpose immediately. The stand and lever do not require explanation. Nodes are more important to display. When you only have a thin rope, you can bundle it to reinforce it.Tree is suitable use for stand. Bar between trees also. Rope between trees with heavy weight pull them down. Heavy objects are safety hazards. When you lift something which need table or stand, folding legs is easy make to turn underneath object when lift it.
great job Cody nice weapon 45 or 22 ? well I'm glad that you have some protection out there love the tree frogs in the back another month I'll have em here ATB ..tom
+maseta3 depends on your definition of lucky! lol. I want to get great footage and photos of weather but at the same time I don't want to get thrown into the next county.
hey Cody , I hope you made out OK from the storms. I'm in central NC and it was ugly. thankfully my town made out OK. heard in the news that the storms killed 4 in Virginia.
+maseta3 it was fine. it broke and went around where I live. storms almost always do. I want to witness severe weather, I just don't want to see it damage anyones property.
+Paul “WildCard” Charron its Paracord. I have not been able to get my hands on bankline in years. at least not locally. I just have not felt up ordering it offline.
Man this was a long time ago. I carried it with idea of non lethal and then lethal but i only carry a firearm now. If im gonna be that close and implement non lethal itll just be hand to hand.
One good thing is people expressing sincere unhindered love, i hope your love is total ( combination of physical, mental, spiritual and long lasting). You will find him in someone, possibly the same guy. Have a great time with you time on mother Earth.

PS The dog is wonderful! Like your comedian sidekick.
great video Cody
from San Joaquin Valley gate way to the Sequoias, California ...
Very clever and well explain it is in a class of its own I will be doing this with 5 or 6 m typod thanks and look forward to keeping in tuch good luck👍
Ty for the videos.
once again--most excellent! thanks! :)
Very informative Cody. Great to see you back!

Great video....and good instructions
Great job!
Hola mi amigo love your very creative artistry within the wilderness very smooth cool knowledge...gracias
I love mechanical improvisation!
You could lift and put it on a skid and slide the object to the end of the skid. Good video, Thank you.
Oh yeah, this is great, thank you. This could really help an old guy out in the woods. Wish I'd have known this a long time ago.
That's very useful. Good to know!
Good stuff Cody. Thanks
This was pretty neat. I've always used some sort of winch to drag logs, or atvs.
Excellent!
Mate, that was blood awesome. Cheers man.
Beautiful scenery.
Oh yeah you have a new subscriber and fan. Cheers mate.
Nice vid brother

Please keep trying. You have skills and knowledge to share but you need to work on your presentation. Good luck.👍
Loved this.....awesome sidekick !!!
great video keep it up.
I love your dog!! You sir are attractive too.
Great channel! 👍🏼
this is a interesting thing.

Nice to see you back!
+Wild Life nice to get a couple new ones out.
great to hear that you live in a lucky spot bud!

Hi Cody great to have you back
+Super Moon It was nice getting back in the woods for a few hours.
+caveman cody I'd bet
3 legs are way better than 4!
Physics!!!
Can you make a adjustable tripod Grill?
(out of wooed and twine)
Cody, do you have anything on primitive improvised clothing? Apart from leather, no one seems to touch on this aspect of survival :( . Thanks.
That is a good point. No i do not. Check sigma III survival school on youtube. They would be my first guess.
Naked as a... Jaybird!
hey glad to see youre back man :)
+SmithAG Found me a day to squeeze in.
hey Cody , I hope you made out OK from the storms. I'm in central NC and it was ugly. thankfully my town made out OK. heard in the news that the storms killed 4 in Virginia.

I have a pulley and rope
Pretty dog.
great demo
+MCKwilly thanks.
Id like to see that tripod hold the camera llf that thing must be able to up hold anything good job
Neat!!!!!!
I prefer to do quick release butterfly knot that I came up with, because regular butterfly usually too damn hard to get undone without plyers.
Darlin', is that para-cord or #36 Bank-line (tar)?
its 550 cord i.e. paracord. so called 550 cord due to its 550 lb tensile weight
(Sub’d)
tripods make great compost toilets too
Use a video converter, from .avi to .mp4 before uploading and won't take so long to upload to RUclips. Thanx Brah! =)
So how long were you down for? I heard 2 yrs.
nice colt 1911
Same kid that would run like tarzan through the woods in Alaska that family ?
looks like bankline Cody
+Paul “WildCard” Charron its Paracord. I have not been able to get my hands on bankline in years. at least not locally. I just have not felt up ordering it offline.
When your sister steals all your cherry skoal and you gotta go hide in the woods to protect yer chew.
#justtrollin
Who the f*** dips Cherry Skoal?? Or any of those other flavored dips?
happy your mom haha
Black labs matter
You need to learn more about knots. A good knot stays tied and is easy to untie.
That is exactly what he did and say. His knot is a good holding know and is easy to untie.
I thought you were gonna call it by it’s real name
A LEWIS
FACT
This is one sheltered cat here
Oh, Man! Good info, but all your itching and scratching gave me the heebeegeebees.
welcome to spending all your time outside
Bugs and plants will do that. Try spending some time in the woods.
Why do you carry a kubaton if u also carry a firearm?
Man this was a long time ago.
I carried it with idea of non lethal and then lethal but i only carry a firearm now. If im gonna be that close and implement non lethal itll just be hand to hand.
i do too and a knife!!! different circumstance different tool
I could use this to lif a truck out of the mud
flip flop winch
i hope this guy dont really believe what he is saying
