      Without disrespect, and on another subject, there's record cases of a woman who overcame terminal pancreatic cancer and later overcame liver cancer and has gone on to live into her 90's when she would have otherwise been dead in her 40's. How? Mexico clinic (highly persecuted by big AMA, CDC, big pharma) offering plenty of cancer killing nutrients and protocols, with solid track record. Why we never hear about it? You figure that out.

    People rarely take this into account when debating 9mm vs 45acp. 9mm might have a slight edge in self defense, but the 45 can cover a lot more bases if your gun can handle the Super or the 450SMC.

    • @michaelestrada2772
      @michaelestrada2772 2 года назад +4

      The hottest 9mm+p+ rounds max out at about 500ft.lbs, but rounds like the 45 Super and 450 SMC can reach the 700ft.lbs mark, not to mention the 460 Rowland which can exceed 1000ft.lbs! They also achieve this with a wider bore and heavier bullet.

    One problem I have had with 10mm glocks and using hot loads is the slide would come back and hit the frame and disrupt the cycle so just something to check out. The fix I found was going to a heavier 22lb recoil spring vs going lighter. Just a thought that might help with the 45 super

  • @beckhamhome

    I've been loading and shooting 45 Super since Dean A. Grennell started posting it. 250gr Gold Dots expand to about .80-90 cal at 1050 FPS The 230 gr Gold dots over expand and start to peel back to the shank at about .70 cal at 1100 FPS. On the Glock 21 I use a 24# spring, after market better supported barrel and a stainless steel guide rod, S&W 4506 with a 22# spring. Starline makes the brass. H&K MK23 shoots them as is without any mods needed. It's the caliber the gun was designed for.

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 года назад

      Sounds like maybe I need to go up from 22 to 24 lb spring. Some people say that the 41 I run has a lighter slide than a 21 so it moves faster. Looked up now, G41 does seem to show 2.5 ox lighter than the 21.

    • @beckhamhome
      @beckhamhome 2 года назад +1

      @@GunSam You've got three things different from my 21sf 3rd gen. One a multi piece recoil system, two lighter barrel+slide mass, and last .7" more barrel giving you that much more total bolt thrust over time. See if you can find a one piece guide rod and adapter to get it simplified a little more. I try to tune the springs to get an 8' or so ejection. Further and it's needless slide/frame battery. Less and reliability might suffer. I was very surprised that the 230gr XTP did that well, the 250's only opened to about .55 cal. at 1050FPS.

  • @plasticglock
    @plasticglock 2 года назад +2

    Man that Super round turned out about perfect! I think that lower penetration and above average (for an XTP) expansion is likely due to it being designed for 45acp velocities. 850 is a long way from 1200+. The 44 was designed for a 44 magnum so it performed like an XTP is supposed to. I think they are both very impressive. I don't know what to say about your Glock. I have 7 I think currently and have had several more over the last 25 years. They have all been just about boring perfect. I noticed you have an aftermarket barrel in it for this video and I am immediately suspicious of it. Is it the same manufacturer as your 10mm conversion barrel? I think its a Wolfe? I would steer far clear of that company if it is. Modifying a Glock is kind of like second guessing Toyota. I am very cautious of mods to Glocks. Those are almost always the guys who have reliability issues. Thanks for the vid Sam! Love your channel Sir!
    .
    EDIT: I just started watching your last video. I haven't been able to watch on my home PC because of extended commuting related issues over the last few days. I see it is a KKM match barrel, and I like the way it looks in that other video. That tight chamber is a compromise toward accuracy over reliability every time. I like them for what they are worth. The ramp on it looks 100% better than that 10mm barrel too. The tight chamber is just one of those things though. It is extra insurance against case failures on the 45 super, but harder to feed reliably. The original 45 super designed by Ace Customs of Texas used modified 308 cases cut down to acp length. They are much thicker. I believe the new production Super spec cases are very thick too. They should be ok in the stock barrel but I understand if you don't trust the unsupported chamber. Love the vid's buddy! Keep them coming!

    I'm wondering if hornady expected the xtp in the .44 to be shot from a lever action carbine. Would be interesting to see the expansion with an extra 3 or 400 fps behind it. 357 and 44 seem to gain a ton of fps from barrel length, much more so than auto pistol calibers do in carbines/sub guns. I'm guessing it's from really slow powders like h110 or 2400 commonly used in magnum revolvers. I know from my experience that the same load, 158gr xtp on a near full charge of h110, does around 1250 from my 6 inch revolver and 1750 from my 18.5 inch marlin.

    The 250 XTP much is better for 45 Super at 1075 fps.

    What’s the process of making a G21 Super. Is it just a barrel swap with better chamber support, stronger striker spring, and 22lb guide rod?

    • @GunSam
      @GunSam  2 года назад

      A G21 will fire .45 Super with no mods, you just don't want to fire a lot. In general though, if you have a gen3 or less that can take a shock buffer, get one. Get an upgraded spring if possible to at least 20 lbs. A fully supported chamber is a good idea. That's all really.

    If its safe to do so I'd like to see what velocity the 45 super gets out of the governor, I know that people shoot 45 super out of 45acp n frames with no problem but I am unsure if the governor is safe with that ammo.

      It isn't and it doesn't try to be better cause it can't. The pressure is already high with the smaller case.
      .380 ACP will also stay around cause it works well with blowback pistols. It allows for slightly more capacity in small pistols. About having an extended mag but flush in a grip that annoys you.

      Hot .32s have a long history , going back at least to Elmer Keith's handloads in .32-20 SAA , and .30 Carbine SA Revolvers , so they're a somewhat known quantity in hunting and field shooting . .32-20 service size revolvers were reasonably popular pre WWII , using the so called " for use in 1892 Winchester Only " factory loads of the era , and a known quantity .
      The .30SC is loaded to 9x23 level pressures to do what it does . Major gun and ammo mfgs wouldn't sell it to the public if it didn't meet the usual industry standards , but those pressures do give one momentary pause .
      For defensive use , we'll have to wait and see how it works in real life . But I'll go out on a limb and make a prediction :
      Performance. will overlap into 9mm territory .
      Hunters and Field Shooters will like the flat trajectory and high Sectional Density .
      For strictly Defensive use , at typical distances , the primary advantage .30SC would have is magizine capacity . How important that is to you is. subjective ( if such capacity is available to you , in your State ) . Is that enough for droves of 9mm users to dump 9x19 and switch ? That will be a challenge for the advertising departments of the respective gun & ammo mfgs to pull off .
      My prediction : Will achieve a level of commercial sucuess somewhere between .38 Super and .357 Sig .

    Saying this to be helpful. You really need to get rid of that glock. I understand the aftermarket barrels and springs for both the 10mm and now the 45 super, but the thing still seems like a lemon.

      Sam is very up front about those guns being ammunition test platforms , not carry guns in those configurations . A actual 10mm Glock , using ammo vaguely within design parameters is as reliable as any semiauto pistol . Donate him a G20 , and I'm sure we'd see it regularly in the videos .

    45 Super seems to dump a lot of power in the first few inches. I wonder how that stacks up tp a heavy winter work coat. I still think the 45 ACP 230 ball ammo has better for pentation then the 45 Super.

    • @margarethouse404
      @margarethouse404 2 года назад

      Well Yeah ! But that's an Apples & Oranges comparison. The relevant question would be does 230 XTP from +P or Super adaquately deal with heavy winter clothing , and the answer would be highly likely yes .
      Switch the bullet options around to compare a std pressure 185 JHP vs Cast or T/C in +P or Super . and the discussion would be flipped .
