Mr. Knopfler you are a class act! Throughout the years you have grown and entertained generations with you wonderful talented. Talent and humility is a rare thing. Thank you.
Not the best guitar player ever but for sure one of the most recognizable. Gentleman, hum, tell it to his brother David or is last producer Ed Bicknell...
I have decided to have Going Home as the closer at my funeral...as the crowd file out and the curtain is drawn..a wonderful uplifting end - thank you Mark
I'm extremely happy Mark wrote this as like Mark mentioned the pre match music is something all toon supporters caused a stink when it was removed from the players entering the football pitch. I just love Going Home
He may have been brought up in the north of England but his Scottish heritage comes out in the music. He has a feel for the country that few others have. Amazing guitarist who, like much-missed Paul Kossoff, can put more feeling into one note than others can put into a thousand. This interview shows someone who sticks to his roots. He doesn't see himself as a superstar even though he is one. He's the type of musician others should aspire to become. Just like Ian Anderson, another Scottish superstar.
FABULOUS! Local hero, was played at my Dad's service, after he passed away, on my request, but I didn't specify which version! it was the rockier version with distorted guitar and loud saxophone that was played! it had that subtle finger picking intro to the huge crescendo at the end, uplifting in feel, and it was perfect! he payed guitar, then accordion, I started on a synthetic, then switched to guitar, my son plays guitar, my daughter keyboards!
lay off the carbs mate! it sad to see my, GUITAR HERO with a beer belly, pullya self together man. Keep healthy we need you alive. I have so much respect for you Mark.
Well here's to hoping Mark gets it together and makes music that once again pleases the great David UK. I will go on food strike until David uk is satisfied with Mark Knopfler's current output!
That melody made me cry every single time.
GENIUS!!!
I worked in london and whenever i went home to Scotland, that tune was in my head. Its like a sound track to the scenery as you drive in to Scotland.
Mark Knopfler and David Gilmour are in a league of their own🙌🏼
The best guitarist in the world, unique and inimitable!!!🎸🎸🎸🔝❤

Simply the best guitar player ever, and the consummate gentleman.
Yes, but let's not forget Les Paul! ;)

As with Dylan and Bowie, Mark sings exactly as he speaks and I love that!

I attended the funeral of a loved one 20 years ago and Going Home was played for Lynn. Still makes me very emotional to this day, a beautiful choice.

I love this movie and I love Mark Knopfler and I love this soundtrack.
This soundtrack is wonderful...really evokes strong memories of childhood. Completely anchored in my brain - it's a Balearic masterpiece!
"I was just some sort of Geordie strummer, really" .... What about that for endearing understatement?
Great interview thanks!
You wrote a masterpeice that will reverberate and make people cry for all eternity.
It's what I'll go "home" to....when that day arrives.
God bless bro.
