That front facing sump oil pan design is always going to be the fly in the ointment for something that accelerates this hard. I don't think all the oil changes in the universe will change that.
I would ask the tech if he checked the spark plug gaps and the torque on the crank balancer bolt. I would also take it back to the dealer after 500 miles and have them check it out again for any codes, loose bolts, fluid checks. Cut the oil filer open after you change it and look for any metal.
@@Xelt666apparently you’ve never worked in corporate America. He was told to go away please. Pair that with the fact that there’s been friction between him and Tavares anyway, no brainer. But he was definitely fired unofficially. We all know it.
Racer X few questions you should ask Stellantis: 1) Why do these cars come from the factory with 8 quarts of oil, they are 1 quart overfilled according to the manual. 2) They say to change the oil after every race event. So if you make 5 passes at a race you need to change the oil? What happens if you are driving on the street and doing WOT pulls, do you need to change the oil when you come home. The manual says oil change at 3,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. I agree that with E85 the oil should be changed more frequently, however after 5 pulls or so is nonsense. If driving on the street you should be able to run 1,500 miles before doing an oil change. They make a race car for the street yet they are very vague on the details to maintain it. Someone could drive it hard on the street and not go to the racetrack, this is a Gray area when would that person need to change the oil after every outing? 3) Why are the Champion plugs not available, what is the replacement they use, Bosch?
Hi Glad that they replaced your engine. The problem is the oiling system. Under extreme acceleration the oil does not lubricate the entire engine. If you push the car again it will fail. Its a fun car to race around on the street and enjoy the status of a 1000 horsepower. Like top fuel all race cars need tons of maintenance. Oh by the way. Leave on the yellow it will shave off half a second. When I raced my reaction time was 2/10th of a second. Be careful and have fun
What's a break-in just keep sending it, no but serious you are doing it correct, and getting extra instructions from the manufacture is always good idea, hope all goes great with no more problems, great to see you back in the Demon 170.
I followed the Mopar break-in instructions to a T on my '22 1320 before racing it, to include changing the engine oil & filter at 1,000 miles, then again at 1,500 miles before hitting the track. I only use my for drag racing, so I changed the oil & filter again at 1,600 miles with only 100 track miles on the car. I had Blackstone Labs analyze every oil change to carefully monitor everything. I do not want any surprises. So far it looks very good.
New motor I always change oil filter after 100-200 miles first oil change 500 miles along with filter cut open filter check for how much metals are inside second oil change at 1,000 mile using conventional oil no synthetic at this point, at 2,000 miles change again and switch to synthetic oil at this point. This has always been my technique and never had an issue with a motor, some are going to say it’s a waste of money I say it’s cheaper for a few extra oil changes then replacing a motor or waiting for the dealership to replace it. I never use synthetic for break in it’s too slick and will glaze cylinder walls and not properly seat the rings. This is subjective depending on the hone process used on the cylinder walls.
I'd only use e85 at the track and I would change my oil after that, e85 thins out the oil. At first I'd go 500 miles and change the oil then 1000 miles and eventually 3000 miles using 93

Daily driving 3,000 miles, track blasting around town constantly, change 1,500 miles, track monster? Switch to a dry sump system!!! Think of the strain of that torque and heat on the metal, oil changes are easy to do yourself..also can have you oil sent out and analyzed to see before hand a future problem
Glad you have the car back. Personally, I would sell it at this point if I were you. Fresh engine under warranty that has never seen the track will make the car bring top dollar.
Congrats on getting the 170 back! I went thru something similar when I bought my Challenger and luckily the dealership honored the warranty and put in a new engine (only put less than 1k miles on it)
Congrats on having the first Demon 170 that has had an engine swap. I hope the technicians did you right, I won't allow Ford "techs" to change my battery in my F150!!
I font understand ehy yiure using a thin oil (as you mentioned) when you're in Florida which is hot. Shouldn't yiu be using a thick oil. Perhaps its the thin oil which is causing the extra friction and hense all the metal shavings you found in the oil pan. Swap to a thick oil and warm up engine carefully before driving.
I dunno, I’d probably be filing some kind of suit for financial damages… it’s no longer a numbers-matching car, correct? Also I hope they at least reset the ECU… if needs to relearn the new motor and to run efficiently.
Just get rid off your Demon 170 ASAP before prices keeps dropping for the D170. Your D170 already lost its value not having the original engine it will show up on Carfax. Trade it in for the OG Demon or Super Stock they were much better built in quality from Dodge. D170 was a rush out production vehicle so the quality is not there and to many D170 owners with different problems and quality not worth keeping it.
Nice video RacerX and I am happy for YOU that the new engine will make YOUR summer of 2024 great!!! About the gas, here in Tennessee I got a station selling 93-octane ethanol free that I been putting into my 2021 Dodge Charger R/T Plus. This week I had my Charger in at the local Dodge dealer for an oil change and was talking to the service representative about what gas the engine needs for best performance. He advised me to use a lower grade of gas and NOT use the 93-octane grade as it was not needed. So, you will be putting 93-octane into your Demon 170 as YOUR engine has more HP, but I feel that for my Charger I will still use 93-octane ethanol free for best performance. Can anyone who knows about this issue tell me what grade of gas you can use or should be using for the 5.7-liter hemi engines? Also, I was informed about the security of the Charger to consider having the LoJack system put into the car for the unlikely event that the car gets stolen from me. YOUR Demon 170 will be a magnet for car thieves RacerX and for the price of that car the LoJack should be included along with the monitoring. While at the dealer waiting for my oil change I looked at some newer Chargers and they did NOT excite me as I felt that my current car is better than what they had except for the two cars that had the bigger engine. Is a 6.4 liter engine really need for driving unless you are racing the car at the track? The cost of insurance, cost of taxes must be high for such a car. Good luck with YOUR Demon 170!
Beautiful car… I would do 100 miles , change the oil, use a SRT oil filter, and drain out the oil cooler.. use the full 7 plus qts of oil , do 500 miles , and do the whole process again.. love your car.. Pat
Good luck i hope it works out but does a new motor devalue the car because now its not numbers matching? would it have been better to do a rebuild of its OG motor? for the price of this car should you tolerate a devalued one? or get rid of it and move on? i think this is something thats up to you but realize in the future this may come up when you go to sell it and its no longer a new motor.
