I know right? No stupid music or ect .how beautiful .thank u soo much
Sure, hedgehogs get all the attention. Hedgehogs, and Taylor Swift.
For several years living at the edge of a town in a house bordering the countryside I had the luck to observe the life of these wonderful creatures. Being so cute and "exotic" I took a liking of them and educated myself on their behaviors and needs. Like many I took the habit of leaving water and food for them and I arranged some shelters to facilitate their overwinter, being content to help them and observe from a distance. I took notice that at the end of the Fall there were many juveniles still roaming around but, by their dimension and appearance, I concluded that they were not big and fat enough to hibernate successfully and reach the Spring alive. I read that they have to be at least half a Kilogram to sleep through the Winter and not die of hunger while hibernating or wake up in the middle of the Winter and exit their shelter only to die outside for the cold or the absence of insects or other means of sustenance. After consulting the "hedgehog literature" and various animal conservation associations, with some trepidation I took the dive and began taking inside some "kids" and caring for them until Spring to be released in the wild at the first viable occasion. They are quite a commitment. Almost everyone had a big parasite load: Ticks, fleas, mites, myiasis (fly worms on wounds or mucosa, very nasty stuff) on the outside; coccidia, toxoplasma and other bugs inside. So expect some vet expense and commit to take good care of them if you want to release them in tip top shape. They are noisy. Being nocturnal even if you host them in some far room expect some ruckus at night (if you want shoot yourself in the foot provide them with a hamster wheel. In the wild they walk as far as 5 km. a night). They produce A LOT of feces. It's unbelievable the sheer quantity they can produce from a so tiny body. When you find their "gifts" for the first time you will think for sure that some big cat or little dog has sneaked inside and left a present...So store a lot of cardboard boxes or Ikea plastic containers and old newspapers, you will need them. Cat litter or other substrates are not advisable from my experience. In the beginning they are very shy and even after months don't expect any attachment or confidence by their side. Furthermore I discourage any contact except for feeding and cleaning: They are wild animals not pets, so satisfy yourself with the thought you gave them a big help and do not expect anything else in return. Mark them with a drop of nail varnish on the back and with some luck you will see them again alone or with their new families huffing and puffing in your garden night escapades. They are fantastic animals 🦔
We're fortunate in being in a quiet, rural area and have several hedgehog highways, ramps and little nesting boxes for them but sadly we're seeing less live and more as roadkill 😞 One of my dogs is obsessed with them and it's amazing how quickly he detects a hedgehog somewhere (can be within a fair distance too but he'll smell it and go weaving and tracking it) then find it and just stand stock still looking at it like a nightclub bouncer. Doesn't bother, worry or stress them out they just ball up, he just stands there and I call him back and then wait to watch his little legs go tootling off again. 😅
@@charlottewebster4233 I read somewhere (very strange indeed) to avoid using an electric torch when you go feeding them. It seems like they associate the lights with food and they go towards the roads attracted by the car lights. Imho is a wacky theory. A more science based info is to avoid the blue prills of poison that people put in their vegetable gardens to kill the snails. Hedgies like snails a lot and they die from eating the poisoned snails
@@banmadabon No sadly the increase in roadkill around here at least is from new build developments and their loss of habitat. We've seen so many new homes go up in the last few years they've been pushed out of the open fields and countryside and have to venture nearer roads to get from one place to another. There are hedgehog highways, holes in fences and people have become more aware leaving them an alternative way of getting places without risking getting squished but it's a shame. What I will say though is the wild hogs are getting so fat from being overfed 😮 It's good people are looking out for them and want to make sure they're OK and leaving food but think they're doing it religiously and we just have these massive fat hogs almost the size of a football 🍔
Hedgehogs are just so cute!!
This is such a brilliant video of hedgehogs. One of the best I ever saw. I have wild hedgehogs that come to my garden at night They are gone into hibernate now I really miss them. hedgehogs are so so cute .
The best hedgehog video ever, love the high definition. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing! It's one of the most brilliant video's about hedgehogs that i've ever seen 😊
One of the best wildlife films I’ve seen.xxx🐝🐝🐝🦔
Gotta love a nice crunchy bug. Crispy coating with a soft squidgy centre.
Pretend it's a chili dog. ;)
So cute....
Hedgehogs are so cute , like spiky hamsters
Danke für das interessante Video und die schönen Aufnahmen 👍🙏🥰
What a hedgehog feast! Fantastic film. Has nothing to envy to renowned animal documentary films
Hedgehogs are ADORABLE!!!!! 😍💋💋💋💋💋💋💋
That shot at 30:30 is immortal.
Wonderfully vibrant colours and just sensational focus on the two baby hedgehogs.
That's a nature shot of the year right there.
Thank you.
Luv and Peace.
Das war bestimmt furchtbar aufwändig. Tolle Arbeit!
Vielen Dank!
27:26 _Mom & babies are together, That time was the greatest time. I have 2 hedgehogs. I am also had 3 baby hedgehogs, too. I miss then a lot.
They look like small Teddy Bears 🥰
Really loved most all of the film and actually appreciated just seeing the hedgehogs as they are - making their little snuffles and huffing noises without a human describing it. Really loved the film overall, but damn, that ending was quite a smashing the face with a hammer. While it might be true, it seemed a jarring way to end the film. Maybe even just a few extra seconds at the end with the car stopping and asking people to drive carefully and watch out for our little hogs?
No pretending...
Thank you for sharing the video! Their lives in the city is unbelievable. Your work is amazing.
This video's awesome. It's lovely & relaxing without narration. I thoroughly enjoyed it from the start to finish. Thank you so much for sharing this delightful video. 🤩

Hedgehogs are so cute. I really liked the scene at the start where Daddy Hedgehog was eating bugs. A "Hakuna Matata"- moment.
I am in love with this. An excellently photographed work, truly mesmerizing.
Those little feeties along the paving 🥰 Do you know how fast they can run on average? We have a group at the back and side of our house and sometimes at night you'll see something hurtling past the corner of your eye in a flash and it catches you off guard. When I shine the torch there he is, big chonker spiky boi legging it and already a fair distance I wonder what their top speed is 🦔
They go as fast as a man walking: 5-6 Km\h. and they roam in average 5-10 Km, per night 🦔🏁
@@banmadabon Wish you hadn't told me that. I'm gonna end up putting it to the test and speed racing a hedgehog see if I can pass or equal his speed at a walk. 🤣😂
@@charlottewebster4233 they're fast...You'll be surprised!
У меня 6а даче такая Семейка живёт. Просто прелесть!
You should sell this to the BBC or WDR.
With a proper narration it would be an awesome documentary.
Especially the part where one hedgehog shags the other and then the couple waddle around intertwined 😂

An elaborate story of a Hedgehog family. A rare scene.
Wow, was für ein aufwändiges und toll gemachtes Video. Viel zu wenige Views und Daumen hoch…. Daher 👍👍👍👍👍👍,

Danke für das Lob!
Thank you for sharing with us all 💖
I always see these during the early summer and spring. One recently moved on to my lawn so I wanted to watch some documentaries about them :)
How did you manage to make this wonderful film? It's amazing, thank you. ❤️❤️❤️
I have holes in my hedge so they don't end up as roadkill. I just snapped a shot tonight of three hedgehogs around my outside feeding bowl initially meant for stray cats but hedgehogs are welcome too.
There's a water bowl too so full service.
Great to see in my pretty wild back garden.
Luv and Peace.
That female hedgehog must have felt like Jodie foster in ‘the accused’!!
😂🤣🤣🤣
Since I didnt get to know how many I had with the hedgehogs I had when I went thru my divorce this has helped me alot. I use to buy as a treat for the mother and mother ones got these really big worms . they knew they were in their cage and would suck them up so fast it was really amazing. they werent as cheaper then the crickets but easier to keep in the cage. thank you for this. maybe I will try again some day
Damn this hedgehog is tenacious.

Queen Aleena and her three children!
It’s beautiful, thank you for these 32 minutes of life of these hedgehogs too often victims of traffic, pesticides, fences surrounding gardens and properties, too rigid for our hedgehogs to pass under. When they try, they get stuck and starve.
This is definitely better without any commentary, I can sleep to this.
Okay, the mating scene caught me off guard.
Forget sleeping to this, these hedgies be wildin'
Literally ends a great video on a tragic note. Earned a sub!
Thank you for sharing with us all 👍🏻😊
I have a French hedgehog named Guillaume! He’s pretty cool. He’s my friend!
I miss my African pigmy hedgehog Delilah. She was sweet and furious, lol.

Excellent. Beautiful work. Would like to have a couple as fur babies. But I live in Alaska and don't know how they'd do up here.
5:39 hedgehog is hunting for slug
Beautiful footage, that poor mommy hedgehog looks fed up with them!
Tasty little buggers.
Finally found some that make the coffee dripping noise! i had one come in making that noise a lot in the beginning and then he piped down so I thought it must be voluntary but I didn't know what it meant. Maybe it's to warn away rivals as they made it during a fight in this video. Otherwise I mainly hear huffing and chewing as they like to eat the cat kibble. I'll set out some apple too tonight, I doubt they get that often around here.
My town's hedgehogs seem very fearless as they like to come inside and in my current house they also sleep indoors. I have one asleep in my bedroom right now, my cats accept all this as just part of life. I hope they do not give birth inside my house though, they should still stay wild and learn how to be real wild hedgehogs and avoid people who are not me. They are very cute and well they encourage you to feed them so mine will not be starving in summer when it gets dry as they all seem to know where the neverending foodhouse is.
Nice work,congrats
nice video and nice Hedgehog
Nice video....
Queen Aleena and her three children!
😂😂😂
its just so satisfying to watch... one of my favorite creature ... i definitely want to have one of any breed.... or maybe a pair would be nice...
theyres solitary
They are wild animals please do not increase their trade or breeding for the pet market. Even the African ones that don't hibernate after all are taken from their environment or bred carelessly for profit. They are definitely very cute but they are extremely shy and don't attach themselves to humans or to other hedgehogs. They are not good pets and they are quite delicate. Please don't...🙏
@@banmadabon hey, my African hedhehog loves me
@@papay100 That's supposed to negate and justify the suffering of an entire specie subject to imprisonment in captivity, inhumane smuggling, inbreeding etc. All because of your"needs"? C'mon...You can do better !🦔
@@banmadabon so you're against having ANY pets, dogs and goldfish too?
Awsome
Brilliant !!! But the snake at the beginning gave a a fright...maybe edit that ?
Was going to say same thing. Scared my daughter thought it would be a fun video to watch together
Man up 🤣
hedgehogs are known to hunt and eat small snakes even venomous ones
I would have never thought walking an animal eat a bug 🐜 ❤would be cute ! 🥰
If he’s going to eat bugs you should name him Igor.
Echt solide von dir, hätte keine 5min durchgehalten ihn nicht streichelnn zu wollen
Youll know if theyre in yourgarden as you can easily hear them.. Leave small holes in your hedges and fences.. Plenty water out in shallow dish.. If you see small yellow balls near their eyes thats flystrike.. Straight to vet as that will kill them.

All good until, did you really have to show that ending?
That is the ending that is most realistic. Hedgehogs will get extinct in the near future in most of Europe due to traffic.
