Many people have money but still lack meaning in their life. Suicides rates are higher in wealthier countries. Some people have little, but have a great sense of meaning and purpose. It's relative, not simplistic, like your blunt conclusion.

For many years I claimed to be a nihilist, which I think I really was, but after watching this video I learned I turned into an absurdist at some point.
The universe may not provide me with meaning, but if I approach life with lebenslust, meaning will appear. There are plenty of reasons to put our hearts into . Global warming is just one such cause. Will we join hands in this struggle? It might feel futile in its enormity, but but together we will achieve CLIMATE STABILITY. Setting up the plan and then following through. Isn't that meaning enough?
I am atheist, I don't believe in supernatural beings, I am not depressed or anxious. I am perfectly fine without religious delusions, and I pity those who need them.
For Camus the gods in the actual myth of sysyphus are what he equates to human existence in itself and existence in general because when say sysyphus is condemned by the gods he means as we have been condemned by existence and life itself but it is only possible to take that view as one who doesnt not believe in anything other than the wind which he cannot see or sense. It's all atheism and occoms razor. Ironically Occam was a monk. One such as I who believes existence itself to be eternal and able to change states and one who remains neutral towards beliefs in the phenomenal or so called supernatural as opposed to those like Camus and atheists who take the negative view towards such possible existence one such as I thinks the only thing absurd about absurdist philosophy is the idea of absurdism itself. Though I do think its intention is somewhat maligned in general its heart is in the right place if that metaphor makes sense. When I think of Camus and suicide I may be alive because of his writings so go figure. As for the rest absurdism is absurd.

The biblical prophet Elijah has returned, as prophesied, and testifies: As one who knows EXACTLY why we are experiencing this world, including HOW we fell into this realm of LIMITATION and HOW we will leave limitation behind - GUARANTEED - I can't imagine living happily in this world without this knowledge except by lying to myself, which I am incapable of doing. The Meaning of Life is the best-kept secret in this world, but was published in the mid 1970's - though few have understood. It is actually quite simple, and if you investigate you'll find it, courtesy Your Truly.
I am personally the lord not Elijah and Elijah is not the lord. The lord is me worship me or burn in hell forever, Love from God, Love from the lord, ME.
... The Absurdist rejects religion, but DOES encourage the exploration of where we came from and who we are, simply by exploring our own observations and our own perceptions , and if we get it wrong, so be it ... most will reject this belief, because it isn't THEIR belief. But that's the whole point : live YOUR OWN life. So long as you don't hurt anyone else ... well, then you AREN'T hurting anyone else !
Surely if something has no meaning then it cannot be absurd. By implication, "absurd" is a judgment indicating some meaning. Sisyphus was condemned. He was being tortured. His fate had meaning. Unpleasant meaning but meaning all the same.
There is absurdity in the notion that, in an existence constantly withholding meaning, we should have evolved to constantly seek it. Where is the axis of balanced rotation of our Nature, if that nature is exactly like the One who gave it to us ?
I could neither prove or disprove, God, I can prove that some agree. I see atheism as a belief which someone has said to be true, which is the same dynamics of theism , where belief is somehow exchanged for a full truth that has eliminated the unknown in the mind, but not the surroundings
Except that atheism is not a "belief", but in fact, the rejection of a belief in the divine. It has no world view, no sacred book, no special vestments, no tithing, and no abstentions. Anybody who tells you otherwise is just selling you something. Atheists have as many different views of life, the world, and morality as you wish. You can think of it this way: A Christian is an atheist with regard to every other diety that is, or has been, worshiped.
The problem here is Hierarchy Ideas and False Beliefs such as owing on an earth no humans own or will keep. It's not necessarily religion. We as a species are stuck but that is not the focus point. -Squirrels Everywhere.
@@ArturoAsenjo I don't think people understand the root of the problems are why it all ends up the way it is. Those two things created everything else. If we cut those two things out, we go back to the intended design thus cancelling out everything else.
I believe some of us are born to suffer or to be an example to others of how 'not' to live. That might be your life's meaning, just like a pig's life is to be made into sausages. We can't all be happy and fulfilled otherwise what would the point be?
This philosophy is absurd on its own. If you get this far, then go all the way with Buddhist philosophy which takes living and enjoying the moment to the next step. Not a religion with blind obedience but something you can try and take what works. Absurdist by itself and not as a stepping stone to enlightenment is basically absurd. Keep asking yourself, "who am I " The truth lies within.
Not necessarily. Some do find a way out. Of course, we all strive to survive and live. But your point is worthy. It is likely that the underprivileged, poor, and supressed peoples of the world exist because the rest of us either put them there or allow them to exist there. So it should be one of our responsibilities to raise them out of their dire circumstances, however we can, that they can live as the rest of us do. Then again, there certainly have been, and are, groups of people who like their way of life and resist attempts to "better them". We have several examples throughout history of the destructive results of bringing "civilization to the natives." That's different than actual suffering going on such as the Sudan.
Camus sounds confused. Life has a purpose, that purpose is growth and change. We grow and change through adversity. How could Sisyphus be happy living in a prison of his own creation? Why should we, it's absurd to believe that just avoiding adversity and thinking happy thoughts solves anything. Abraham Mazlow's Hierarchy of Needs always sheds light on our behavior. You conform to society because you need to a part of something. You pursue a mate because you have a need to be loved. Quarterbacks and Carrier pilots understand the need we have for self-actualization or the need to be at the top of their game. The need to survive and overcome keeps you alive, the need to be your best gives that life purpose and direction.
Religion poisons everything. If we haven't learnt that yet, then we have learnt nothing and should continue to live with false beliefs, as suggested in this clip.
Endowed/enforced meaning, from a god for instance, is dead. We have assertive meaning now. Many of them. Maybe too many. We have no escape from our freedom and responsibility.
I don’t think he was taking a shot at them. He was just using them as an example of the “who cares” mindset. Meaning who cares about exposing yourself to people who you will never meet or have any interaction with other than on the social platform.
Albert Camus was a pessimist that produced pessimistic conclusions. His philosphy was one sided as it was too deeply based on psychology of his own experience.
14:57 This guy claims no philosophy explains life better than religion and should adhere to one but he suggests people should keep exploring why we exist. Spell check: Chaos. Plague. Your presentation is good and the point of view is valid. But your visual image of "human evolution" is obsolete and innacurate. Life did not evolve in a simplistic, linear timeline. It's not enough to say "I'm just using a meme that everybody recognizes", because it only perpetuates an erroneous understanding, however MINOR this point is to your larger context. A tree is a popular and somewhat better metaphor. Darwin's own branching diagram in his 1859 "Origin of Species" is even better. Otherwise, I agree with you (and Camus). We can, and should, find purpose in life through our own endeavors and with others who have meaning in our lives. Ready-made "answers" like religion may be comfort food, but they are more like prepackaged food and mixes: Fine for a bit, but deceptive (artificial colors, sweeteners, additives) and not so nourishing in the long run. If one believes that purpose in life can be found in helping others, that is a good and valid purpose. It has the value of nourishing you and those you assist. Purpose can be found in dedicating some of your life to the pursuit of knowledge, shared or not shared. At the same time, we can pursue multiple purposes throughout our lives. Purposes, like priorities, can change as we grow and age. And adapting to changing environments is a lesson from nature that teaches us a way to survive and thrive over time. But letting something else (religion) or somebody else decide your own purpose in life is tantamount to spiritual slavery (or moral addiction).

You don't need meaning in your life, if you have money. Meaning is for people just getting by.
