    Great neighbourhood indeed, although Diepkloof used to be a powerhouse in the 80s, 90s and 00s...now the wealth is spread out in Soweto, owning to constant new developments. You would get a clearer picture if you toured Soweto as a whole...

    Normally people who turn neighborhoods into slums are outsiders!
    Locals try by all means to take care and develop their communities!
    Outsiders know they only there temporality, lack the history and love of their area!
    Locals know they must preserve the area for coming generations and its their heritage and history

    Kevin Hart once came to SA and said he was shocked at how different it is to the image portrayed in the media. He said it is up to us the citizens to be proud of our country and showcase the good and positive side of our beautiful home. It doesn't serve the "other" people to showcase it for us, they gain more clicks and views by showing the bad side. We must be the custodians and patriots who guard our country's image. It that perception that influences whether people visit (tourism) and invest in our country. C'mon Mzansi I know we can do it, let's rebuild this country.

      Fuck them. We dont need them. Let them show the world bad images. It will prevent that western world stench from coming here. We dont need to be wasting our time telling the americans and Europeans what we have here. We need to fix south africa for us not the whole world. Because america and europe are terrible places thatbpretend they are good. Let people be fooled into thinking those places are nice while we chill here peacefully

You can hear on people's comments that there is still a lot of people who think Soweto is some dumping place, keep posting them David, come down until you get to protea, there is a lot of positive signs that should give hope to the rest of south Africa.

There is a wealth of additional content to explore, necessitating a return visit. It's mostly people that come from other rural parts of EC that build shacks in PE. The houses built by apartheid government in PE are nonsense, they are not stand alone in New Brighton and people shared a tap. In KwaZakhele they are stand alone house. The neighborhoods have small streets and are condensed. This glorification of apartheid is stupid.

      @@mpumzi new brighton has two sides. The 1st areas built are the ones u are talking about. A middle class area called ford was built afterwards with much bigger homes. Kwazakhele is a lower class area. Zwide also has two sides, small houses with small streets and a middle class area with bigger homes and yards. Then theres kwamagxaki and kwadwesi for the middle class. Theres also nu5 up to nu7 in motherwell, also bigger houses. My point is that ANC has never built any of those homes for the blacks. They allowed land invasions and they give those people rdp homes after. No proper developments whatsoever. And blacks were prospering during apartheid, u were just not allowed to mix with whites. Schools and hospitals were constantly being built as more black people came from rural areas into cities. Now schools are being abandoned and department of education money is being chowed by government officials. Rdp and grant are no way to grow a society. Jusy breeding a lazy society that constantly depends on government.

      If you break into someone's home in the townships, let's just say you're asking for trouble. People in the townships mostly look out for one another, they'll deal with said party in most cases if SAPS won't come to their aid. Not that I support vigilantism, however I know that that's how it operates in a lot of the areas. Some have your ADT, Chubb or patrollers, but the neighbourhoods are close-knit.

      The sense of community and ubuntu that you typically find in townships suffices as a form mutual of protection, even though there is some level of crime that from time to time. This sense of community is rare to find in a typical South African traditional suburb. And this lack of unity amongst households in the suburbs results with vulnerabilty to crime, which translates to high or ugly security measures as you have said.

    • @terranyati508
      @terranyati508 7 месяцев назад +2

      The chimneys in South Africa are in the main built in barbecue (braai's - as we call it). Not a lot of homes have chimneys for heating the homes. Homes with chimneys for heating were generally built long ago (old homes). As it pertains to the weather, we have hot summers and winters can at times be cold but not as cold as some parts of the world such as Europe, Canada, etc.

    • @LeRoux2451
      @LeRoux2451 7 месяцев назад

      @@Joy25-ce6vz and @louiseanne5075, this is a more researched response available online: Your comment about the apartheid government not planting trees is likely referring to the historical legacy of apartheid in South Africa, which has had lasting effects on the distribution of green spaces and trees in urban areas.
      During the apartheid era, public parks and street trees were mainly developed for beautification purposes in the historically affluent northern white suburbs of cities like Johannesburg. This has resulted in an unequal distribution of tree canopy cover between different parts of the city.
      A study found that virtually all (96%) South African cities remain under a form of “green apartheid” - an uneven distribution of city trees, greenery, and parks across racial and income geographies. White citizens tend to live in areas with many more trees, greener vegetation, and easier access to public parks than areas with predominantly black African, Indian, and coloured residents.
      Efforts have been made to address this issue. For example, groups like Greenpop have started initiatives to plant trees in marginalized communities. However, fully uprooting green apartheid in South Africa will take time.
      It’s important to note that the distribution of green spaces is just one aspect of the broader socio-economic inequalities that persist in South Africa post-apartheid. These inequalities are complex and multifaceted, involving issues of land ownership, wealth distribution, and access to resources. I hope you both find this information helpful. @LivinginSAtv will blow your mind🤯
