STORYLINE:
Mourners gathered Friday in the West Bank for the funeral of 21-year-old Qais Mohammed Zakarneh, who was killed Thursday in an Israeli army raid into the northern West Bank according to Palestinian health officials.
During what Israel's military described as an operation targeting militancy, troops encircled a house in the town of Qabatiya, West Bank, and exchanged fire with gunmen inside.
The military said that its forces had killed two Palestinians by firing missiles at the house. But as of Thursday night, Palestinian health officials had only confirmed one death - that of 21-year-old Qais Mohammed Zakarneh.
Israel’s military said it also arrested several Palestinians suspected of militancy and dug up explosives planted in the ground.
The Palestinian Health Ministry says over 530 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the West Bank since the start of the latest Israel-Hamas war.
Most have been killed during Israeli raids and violent protests, though the dead also include innocent bystanders and Palestinians killed in attacks by Jewish settlers.
