She and her family have been to the US a few times. Just recently they were in California and Minnesota. Wave Potter is a reactor/musician and a huge YOYOKA fan. He discovered her about 1 year ago and has done MANY reaction/breakdowns to her music. She has left comments from time to time but that was pretty much it, or so he thought. This is how amazing her family is. Before their trip, YOYOKAs dad, Akifumi, contacted Wave and asked if he'd be interested in meeting/jamming with YOYOKA while they were in Minnesota. He freaked out, said yes, and this is a little bit of what they did. The family played at a grade school the next day and asked if he'd like to join them on guitar. He freaked out, again, and said yes. Crazy how things happen. She spices up everything that needs a _touch of funk._ I prefer the dynamics of her _Speed King_ cover to _Burn._ She plays to 'serve the song' and support other musicians even when playing to a recording; remarkably mature and tasteful. AFAIK, he recorded his first album 'Char' in '76, and 'Smoky' is on that. I read that 'Smoky' is a Char 'signature tune'. Yoyoka played with Char at a Japanese live music festival when she was 8yo! 😊 It was great to see you at her livestream. YOYOKA has come to the U.S. at least 4-5 times. Twice for the ELLEN SHOW. Ellen booked her a gig at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go bar in West Hollywood with her name on the marque. Played at NAMM (Jan 2020) for Pearl Drums (one of her endorsement deals), I think she was youngest ever to play there. Visited New York. She was also in the U.S. for about a month in Novemberish last year, did an improv session with "Wave Potter" (YT Reactionist), then played at a High School, and I think this is when she did the improv session with Derek Day (Guitarist and Vocalist of "Classless Act") on Creative World, an American TV talk show. They are looking into re-locating to the U.S.
Char is a Japanese musician, singer-songwriter and record producer, considered one of Japan's Greatest Guitar players (Wikipedia). You will see YOYOKA and him together off and on. "Smoky" is the first song that I felt like it was very clear that she was a seasoned professional in all senses.
Just remeber, at seven, she was up on stage playing with her family band. At that age, she already knew the difference between being a mediocre drummer and one who could really play. Her family took a big chance when they made her the 'offical' drummer for their band. Having a lousy drummer is the differnce between getting invited back to perform or not getting invited to perform in the first place.
