Thanks for your review. It was interesting to see what your thoughts were on the track cleaner. I bought one about 6 months ago, to cut a long story short I found it difficult to use due to constant derailments. Not enough pressure on the block didn't clean very well, too much and the opposite spring reaction lifted the bogies causing derailmant. I also noted that the block was just the right width to cover the track but on tight bends the block fell inside the track on the outer curve causing it to derail. Eventually I modified it by removing the light plastic chassis and replacing with heavy steel. I also removed the block and replaced with a wider block made from lead and insulated from the track. This eliminated the spring and the weight of the block gave better cleaning on the track without affecting the traction of the bogies. It takes some grunt to pull it but it works so well I only need one or two passes. P.S. I use 100% Iso without any problems. If you cant get it where you are use clear methalyted spirits (no dye). Thanks again for your review. Andrew.
Gday Andrew. Well thank you for the detailed run down and I can relate to most of what you say including the radius issues. I had noted that myself but as I have nothing less than 3rd could not really make a comment. I will not change mine as It does what I want it to do. I am basically happy with it. I am aware that there are some mods coming to the unit to improve things but for me it really has taken the tedium of the rubber away. Especially as I need to clean so often. Thanks for the Meths hint appreciated. I have now posted a Part 2 to this video. Many thanks Jerry
Thanks for that Jerry, I hadn’t heard of the Sharge before this video but you’ve demonstrated it extremely well and I’m almost sold, I’ll await your follow up report in a months time. 😉 Paul
I had one of these as well as the cmx cleaner and the cmx is by far superior, The Sharge unit is way to light has derailments and is no where near as eficient as the cmx, I find it hard to beleive cmx coppied his idea when cmx was on the market way before the sharge. I also found with the the sharge unit it was very awkward to fill and doesent have the capacity of the cmx. Anyway if you are happy with it that is what matters.
Never hurd of the sharge track cleaner so I enjoyed seeing this and your opinion. The Cmx has been on my to buy list but I put it off due to the cost. Like you I have the Dapol unit as well and I mainly use it for the vacuum more than anything. That track rubber has seen a lot of work! I might take a look at this model instead of the cmx for my layout. Thanks for sharing, Clint
Hi again Clint. Thanks for watching and glad it was of interest. I found the Dapol unit did not really clean my track so track rubber it was. I think a combination of TR and this Sharge unit will do the job. More specifically, it will clean in difficult to get to places. Cheers, Jerry
Jerry, I had never heard of them but, I will be contacting them. You had a good price compared to other products, I may give it a try. I have nothing to lose at that price. GDay from a very wet South Wales, the land of the 37's, not running again on the Rhymney Valley line, I can hear them where I live, awesome.
Hi Nigal, I have seen some talk about the 37s leaving but a bit confused. Are they moving on and where to? I also loved their sound as the came up the line from Liverpool Street to Norwich and Cambridge as a 12 year old. BR Blue split head code and rummbling way! Ah! Well we are both in wet places! Cheers, Jerry
Hi Jerry, Interesting.....I bought one of these too some 2 weeks ago. Tried it out using various pressures. Mistake. Too much friction. Set it back to original. Managed to get round tracks 3 & 4. Used a heavy Hornby class 71 BoBo electric & an equally heavy Heljan LT BoBo 'John Milton'. Each ran for some 35 minutes until the tank ran out, both with a little difficulty across complex pointwork. Did it clean the track? Yes, it did. Very well indeed. The following morning........the class 71 would not run at all......'john milton' not very well. Their wheels were filthy; tracks 3 & 4 had a great deal of white residue which made any running worse than 24 hours previously..........long & short....class 71 a right off (no big loss); the 'John Milton' chassis had to be sprayed thoroughly with WD40 contact cleaner (desperate measures)! it went again.....track was given a 'tidy clean' which helped. After 1 week tracks 3 & 4 were back to normal; have not used the device since. OK, so what went wrong: clearly, the 70% Isopropanol is useless - thanks to UK water (added chemicals - a wonder we're not all dead) - a much stronger cleaning agent without water is necessary - any body got any ideas? The device works - the cleaning agent doesn't. Let me know how you get on, Jerry................Reinhard
Bugger Reinhard, that sounds terrible. Distilled water is what I was told to use. Which I did. Now I am about to run upstairs and see if anything has happened overnight! I was told not to use anything else except a 70/30 mix or googone, which I can not get. Okay, so I have had a look. No white residue but when I rub my fingers along the track I can feel a residue on them. I am running a Bachmann class 25 around at a crawl no problems, in-fact very good given I have not cleaned the track this morning. The Heljan 33 with Sharge in tow but switched off is fine too. As you say maybe something in the water, Fluoride? Try Distilled water only. That was the instructions from George ALTHOUGH, I note it does not specify this on the instructions. Hope this helps, Jerry
Hi Jerry, glad yours is OK. Maybe mine went bananas because I didn't wait for it to dry......why the hell 2 locos (clean) wheels should get so dirty is beyond me. Mixture I used was sent by George - I'll give it a go with 100% IPA and see what happens! Oh, btw, forget googone - that just leaves a sticky mess on your pickups. I'll keep watching for an update - all the best......Reinhard
Cheers for the video. Hadn't heard of this company before. I'd seen Lakeside's one and had also been put off by the price so had stuck with using a track rubber or a cloth dipped in the IPA. I'd also tried Track Magic which I found to be absolutely useless and actually put a film on the track making it slidy and connectivity worse. The good thing about IPA is it evaporates when exposed to air. Now I'm building a much bigger layout I'll definitely be looking at this to make life easier, and, since it's a Scottish company, I should really buy local and support it.
Yep good on you, little cottage industry I think. Like you, my layout is a little too big to keep doing it manually and I hope this is the answer. I will do a report in about a month. Best. Jerry
Am I sooo glad I saw your video on this track cleaner, Jerry as I've been looking for a good track cleaner such as the CMX but am just not prepared to pay the silly prices they charge! I simply can't understand why I haven't come across the Sharge track cleaner before and am very grateful you did a review on it. It looks very well built and a real alternative to the CMX....and British built!!! The only thing which I noticed is that it appears it doesn't have NEM pockets to fit the couplings of your choice. but apart from that, I will be purchasing one asap. Many thanks for your video. Lawrence.
Yes its all British and does the job!! The couplings are attached by small screws and can be removed. Thanks for watching and your comments cheers Jerry
Really interesting stuff Jerry - I'm starting on a big layout and track cleaning in a less manual way is going to be required and this is certainly a good looking alternative to the CMX! Looking forward to the report in a month's time!
Its all going to plan at the moment, so i hope it continues. Thank you as always for watching and your comments. Track cleaning is a real bore! Cheers Jerry
@@jerryallen34 Good to know Jerry! Yeah - you're right about track cleaning - anything that can be done to automate it somewhat has to be a good thing. Sounds like it's a lot worse for you over there with the climate and conditions!

I bought mine from America and saved wee a bit of money but no much after import charges lol... Mark
Hi Mark, great to hear from you. The tank is metal, tubing I guess powder coated I think and its that that adds weight. I could not bring myself to spend so much on the CMX. Enjoyed the video Jerry, i bought one of these or very similar about 18 months ago for £ 99.00 so your price was a lot better, i did have problems with the screws holding the bogies keep coming loose so watch out for that, i use a CMX now ( not cheap from new i know ) and that never gives a problem but for that money it should not, some loco's can struggle pulling the CMX up inclines on my layout so the lightness of the Sharge is a plus factor and also it does look like a tanker wagon where the CMX does not really, hope it works well for you and your tracks stay forever clean my friend, take care...Mal

Hey I video I watched a video and it said always drag the cleaner instead of pulling it I tryed it both ways and couldn't tel the difference part from the derailment lol I have the cmx cleaner works great but cost a lot cheers Paul
Hi Paul. The CMX has a great reputation. I am hoping this does the same job! Push or pull, it does not really matter. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Jerry
Great video Jerry!!! Cheers Onno.
Thanks Onno, great to have your support. Best. Jerry
Watching you with that"hypo needle" give's another meaning to the word Mainline. LoL. ps I think you should open your video's with that scene with the dip in the track, that's so real looking.........John
Noted John, you are correct, I got a lot of feedback on that particular shot. I'll try and do a better one. Thanks for watching, Jerry
Brilliant Jerry, This looks amazing, You need a pair class 20 at each end dedicated to track cleaning then it would be perfect!
Any news update on Paxo? 🐓 I have not heard him for a while.
Regards
Kev

Yes, it would look good with a BR Blue class 20 x 2. The cost the cost!! Paxo is fine, I still have to capture him on film!! Cheers Jerry
@@jerryallen34 Cant wait to see him! He is the voice of Kampala Rd! 🐓
Looks excellent! Excellent review!
Thanks! Time will tell. Best. Jerry
Had never seen or heard of it before Jerry thanks for showing us , looks like the ducks guts, pretty solid and appears to be very effective. How do you contact them doesn't appear to be an email address or phone number on their website ? Very interesting video Jerry
Stewart
Yes its strange but here is the phone number: +44 155661 12157. As you say, very odd. I skyped called as it much better and virtually free. Cheers, Jerry
Hi Jerry Great bit of kit do you know if they do a n gauge. Colin
Hi Colin, yes they do an N Gauge one, not sure of the cost. Cheers, Jerry
@@jerryallen34 Thanks. Colin
Please what do you think is the best Loco to pull this?
Hi. Any Heljan diesel loco
you could try using an old body of a class 50 Diesel. but it does look like a water tanker for a Garrett.
Thanks Andrew i do have a class 50 body spare! Cheers Jerry and thanks for watching.
Will it take Nem Couplings?
Yes
Hi Jerry
well done on 1k subscribers
Pleasure watching your channel grow.
That track cleaner looks like a a beast in my opinion.
It seem to do a great job.
Mix with some long base tanker it will blend in. Only my opinion.
How long does it take to dry?
Thanks for the mention
My video was more to help people for a cheap way.
Keep safe arp
Thanks mate, that is very kind of you. I have to do a thank you video. Did you see your tanker in the background, now weathered? Cheers, Jerry
Hi jerry i did see was unsure if it was or not
