There's something special about strafe jumping through the air at high speeds, and landing that fly-by shot that CS just doesn't have. It's one of the things that made quake and UT awesome. Arena shooters, you are missed. Which hitbox are you hitting? I am hitting man. Man hitbox.

I've been trying this gamemode myself, and I found some extra settings that can make it more fun: weapon_debug_spread_show 3 - Enables the crosshair on the awp and ssg while unscoped, which means you literally have a railgun. ssg is also fun to try to get nonscope headshots mp_solid_teammates 2 - Disables collisions with teammates but still allows boost, like in casual. This way you only have to worry about not getting stuck on the map

This reminds me of this browser shooter called Krunker.io. It has a mechanic called slide hopping in which you can gain speed by jumping then holding shift as you fall (crouch) which makes you slide and increases you speed. You can repeat this to go max speed which is fast as all hell. It basically was the ,eta to learn how slide hop and aim while you had other mechanics such as which chariticter your playing as. Cause the thing is, the shotgun is op, not only is it a one shot from close range, which was a often occurrence, but if you jump and shoot your shotgun facing down at the same time you could gain some massive height making you able to bamboozle your opponent or even go to place you weren’t supposed this dumb browser game even has a competitive scene with entire esports orgs within it. It’s just crazy.

I think its not the mechanics that resulted in the meta of not bhopping. Its your type of aim. Counter Strike players use point to point aim due to stationary targets, whereas quake players use tracking aim due to moving targets. Extra info: Quake players also typically have a faster sensitivity and larger mouse pad as a result. Counter strike is a precision shooter, shooting heads that take up a very small space on the screen. Quake just requires you to aim in the general direction of the target since theres no damage scaling on different body parts and the design of the weapons themselves facilitate this. Explosives and nailguns require you to aim where the target is going to be. Shotguns have a spread so missing just means partial damage loss. Rapid fire hitscan weapons make missing have little consequence, and the railgun only requires you to shoot once, but at the cost of being the most difficult weapon to use other than the plasma gun. The AWP on the other hand is argueably the easiest or at least the most accessible weapon to use effectively. Its why a tactical player and an arena player are not any more skilled than the other. The skills translate to an extent but once you get to a really high level of play the two types of aiming seperate further and further. Im an arena player, which is why I top frag on arena shooters yet bottom frag on CS and Valorant even with the sensitivity carrying over. This also partially has to do with strategy. Staying stationary and using cover doesnt work nearly as well in arena shooters as it does in tactical shooters.
I think rail in quake is the easiest weapon to use and the lg and plasma hardest, by that i mean geting above 35% accuracy. Recently ive played quake live with friends (in lan) and the only weapon they could properly use was the rail, note it they all had less than 2hrs played in quake
@@st4my721 That could be true, but if you compare using the railgun to using the AWP in CS, its easier to use in CS than in quake in relation to all other weapons. Its because you can use cover to go behind between shots in CS and targets dont move super fast in CS either. But I could see what you mean. Any one hit kill weapon will be used by new players more than weapons that say have projectile time. Im guessing that at higher levels the projectile time ones might be used more since they have more consistant damage for predictable targets. Either that or its easier to get shots to hit when theres bad net coding since the hitbox itself isn't hitscan but rather a giant hitbox. The fact that you were on lan guarenteed that hitscan would be 100% consistant. Anyway, this is all just from personal experience, no research involved other than watching others play.

The Advocate network also regularly has people sending party invites. Live fire is in a similar state at around 3 minutes. Queue for everything, the matchmaking system guarantees a variety of game modes and low queue time by its weighted design. 100 point loss isn't too bad, try being in a bounty hunt where one team is 4900 and the other is at 120
I have an idea that would force the players into bhopping instead of standing: make players lose HP while not jumping. Maybe something like -10 HP per second (so about -1 HP per 13 ticks on 128 tick), but stop at 1 HP so it can't outright kill you.

The AWP on the other hand is argueably the easiest or at least the most accessible weapon to use effectively.
Its why a tactical player and an arena player are not any more skilled than the other. The skills translate to an extent but once you get to a really high level of play the two types of aiming seperate further and further. Im an arena player, which is why I top frag on arena shooters yet bottom frag on CS and Valorant even with the sensitivity carrying over. This also partially has to do with strategy. Staying stationary and using cover doesnt work nearly as well in arena shooters as it does in tactical shooters.
I think rail in quake is the easiest weapon to use and the lg and plasma hardest, by that i mean geting above 35% accuracy. Recently ive played quake live with friends (in lan) and the only weapon they could properly use was the rail, note it they all had less than 2hrs played in quake
@@st4my721 That could be true, but if you compare using the railgun to using the AWP in CS, its easier to use in CS than in quake in relation to all other weapons. Its because you can use cover to go behind between shots in CS and targets dont move super fast in CS either. But I could see what you mean. Any one hit kill weapon will be used by new players more than weapons that say have projectile time. Im guessing that at higher levels the projectile time ones might be used more since they have more consistant damage for predictable targets. Either that or its easier to get shots to hit when theres bad net coding since the hitbox itself isn't hitscan but rather a giant hitbox. The fact that you were on lan guarenteed that hitscan would be 100% consistant. Anyway, this is all just from personal experience, no research involved other than watching others play.

There are lots of people playing, more than enough to fill lobbies,
and the best part is there's enough of them for me to meet both new and familiar pilots in almost every round (with a heavy bias to "new" over "familiar")
Attrition is just the most played, you can get a Pilots vs Pilots in 1 minute at around 9PM. The Advocate network also regularly has people sending party invites. Live fire is in a similar state at around 3 minutes. Queue for everything, the matchmaking system guarantees a variety of game modes and low queue time by its weighted design.
100 point loss isn't too bad, try being in a bounty hunt where one team is 4900 and the other is at 120

I have an idea that would force the players into bhopping instead of standing: make players lose HP while not jumping. Maybe something like -10 HP per second (so about -1 HP per 13 ticks on 128 tick), but stop at 1 HP so it can't outright kill you.
That combined with the vampire mechanic would be interesting.

CS is a pretty simple game at it's core (eg. compared to Overwatch or Dota where you need to memorise all sorts of things to even understand what's happening) but complexitity is born through mastery of simple mechanics.
