This is why BYD sales continue to grow YoY because BYD have both offering, EVs and Hybrids. If consumers are not comfortable going full EVs, they can buy Hybrids from BYD. This is the key to BYD success over Tesla in the long run.
BYD is the one playing 4D chess, and why they will continue mopping the floor with Tesla. BYD generates revenue and profit from all vehicles sold. If PHEV/Hybrids more in demand, then can easily adapt to that market dynamic. If EV more in demand, then can easily adapt to that market dynamic. I can also see BYD pivoting to offer ICE if that is what the market demanded. Tesla is stuck like Chuck with EV's. If EV's demand falls, they lose money. If EV government handouts stop, they go bankrupt.

The CCP is doing the same thing it has done for the past 50 years. Find an industry with significant TAM, invest heavily ahead of potential returns, flood the market with product so no competitor can achieve profit. BYD is a competent manufacturer and China is starved for good investments. BYD already passed Tesla in EV sales and its product line has a greater TAM -it will continue to grow fast. Tesla is concentrated in the high end -it will struggle against legacy automakers in the high margin segments. When it finally gets a lower price offering it will be the underdog against giants.

Those Factset delivery estimates are very disingenuous. No one actually trying to do their job correctly (meaning give people numbers that are actually meant to tell people what the numbers will be) would estimate 450k deliveries. Obviously Wallstreet wants this to look like a crazy miss of 70k even though anyone paying attention would know this was going to be 410k at best. Amazing that these “analysts” still have jobs. My take is that they want the stock to drop because of short positions/puts ect. Wallstreet is a trader’s game short term and “estimates” should not be taken at face value.

I had called this on my previous posts and all the fanboys attacked me. It was obvious that Tesla sales was dropping and dropping big. As I said, even at the current TSLA price, Tesla would have to double sales every year for the next decade. Thus, TSLA will drop like a rock until it reaches a P/E of 6-7, the industry standard.
Tesla blames production. But production wasn't the problem. The consumer demand was the problem. In fact, reduced supply, production shutdowns and supply chain disruptions from houthi or environmental extremists in Germany helped to limit production which helped Tesla limit the supply in an environment of reduced buyer demand which actually helped Tesla
I've been a big TSLA bull for a long time. Made some nice money. Dumped my stock a few months ago when it went below 190. Thankfully. I'll buy back in at some point, but only after Musk gets them rolling again.
Exactly, why should vehicle sales have such an impact on a so-called tech company? Well, they always have their robust revenues from software to save them....oh wait...
It doesn't concern me as a shareholder. Model Y - their best selling EV was under revamp and 10s of thousands were waiting for the new version of the car. I've seen so many Tesla trucks this past week it's nuts.
The Model Y refresh won’t come to the US before 2025. This was clearly communicated by Tesla. If people are indeed waiting for that, you should be concerned.
IMO Tesla deliveries are dropping for three main factors: (1) Musk is an increasing reputational liability, he either needs to button it or leave the Tesla board. Tesla's primary market do not want to be associated with his political pronouncements. (2) The removal of the stalks from the S, 3 and X, likely Y in future too. Stalks are essential for European market, indicating on our winding roads is impractical with buttons on the steering wheel, it's driving custom away. (3) Tesla's existing line-up is looking very tired, it needs more than incremental facelifts. Additionally the Cybertruck is a deadend, it's far too large and expensive, it'll almost certainly never be marketed outside of North America.
China sales last year especially in the early months are misleading. They had just ended their zero covid policies and there was a massive wave of infections across the country. You need to look at the market share percentage, not just the gross number of sales.

The automotive industry was hyper competitive before the advent of the Chinese automakers. Now that they have arrived, it is competition on steroids. Until some legacy automakers fail, there will be global oversupply and downward pressure on margins. It will take a few years for the bankruptcies and failures to play out.

IMO Tesla deliveries are dropping for three main factors:
(1) Musk is an increasing reputational liability, he either needs to button it or leave the Tesla board.

The automotive industry was hyper competitive before the advent of the Chinese automakers. Now that they have arrived, it is competition on steroids. Until some legacy automakers fail, there will be global oversupply and downward pressure on margins. It will take a few years for the bankruptcies and failures to play out.
