He falls in love with ant princess Bala, Z strives to make social inroads, and then must save the ant colony from the treacherous scheming of the evil General Mandible that threaten to wipe out the entire worker population.

General Mandible's evil plan comes to fruition as the worker ants inadvertently flood the colony.
Trapped in the flooded colony, Z plans a desperate escape and fights General Mandible for the colony.
General Mandible is a megalomaniac ant soldier who views worker ants as inferior vermin and soldiers as superior. He manipulates the Queen into rejecting peace negotiations with a hostile colony of termites and sends all the soldiers loyal to her on a suicide mission to attack the termites and secure his power. Both sides are destroyed in the right except for Z, which irritates him to no end. He then engineers a new dig for the miners so they will hit a water source that will drown every ant in the colony including the Queen, except for his small faction of army loyalists who will be blindly obedient to him. He tortures Weaver to find Princess Bala after Z took her away, threatens to kill Azteca if he does not comply, then orders Z killed seconds after he promised not to do so and arranges Weaver's death as well. To start his new ideal colony, he plans to force Princess Bala to marry him after he has killed her mother and everyone else. When his right hand Colonel Cutter turns against him to help Z and the worker ants out, he angrily tries to kill him while shouting that he is the colony.
Antz was a technical marvel at the time it was released and boasted an incredible cast with the likes of Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone and Christopher Walken. Antz was incredibly funny with some darker elements.
This film follows Z, an ant struggling with his colony's conservative and conformist ways. Although his position as a worker ant is essential to his community, he and his peers are treated as mere cogs in a machine. Z's actions cause his fellow workers to question their circumstances, which conflicts with the plans of General Mandible and his executives. Mandible claims that his orders are for the good of the group, but it is only by breaking rank and working together that the ants can save themselves from a grim fate.
A disgruntled worker ant goes to great lengths to impress the princess he has fallen in love with, unintentionally uncovering a devious plot.
Critics have enjoyed the themes, humor and visuals of Antz from DreamWorks Pictures and Pacific Data Images.
It's different to be forced into a role than it is to choose that same role.
Although his creativity and ingenuity are quite impressive, Mandible utilizes his intellect to overthrow the Queen in an attempt to build the perfect colony. The only reason for his inevitable failure is because thousands of ants work in perfect synchrony to escape their death trap.
Christopher Walken, known mainly for being hilariously over-the-top characters, plays the soft-spoken, deadpan Cutter.

Antz hits harder thanks to its stronger themes of conforming versus being an individual. While the designs of the ants can be offsetting, the characters are fun and voiced by the likes of Gene Hackman, Sylvester Stallone and Sharon Stone.
Z sees Mandible about to kill Colonel Cutter and shoves him out of the way. Keep in mind he barely knows Cutter, but the guy is about to help his friends, and that was far more important. Throughout the film, Z has been rather selfish, but now he understands that the colony is just as important as he is.
Antz is an animated comedy that will have lots of appeal for teens and adults, especially for fans of Woody Allen's brand of humor: ironic social commentary and perpetual worry.

One of the subtler features of Antz was its depiction of a class system, with the oppressed suffering at the bottom while those in power obtained glory and recognition for the work of those under them. This is most evident in the character of General Mandible, who tries to kill defiant soldiers by shipping them off to war with the intentions of staging a coup and taking control over the colony from the Queen Ant.
Mandible was the first political villain I watched as a kid.

General Mandible is an amazing villain who strikes fear into everyone with his menacing voice and horrible actions, making him incredibly unlikeable throughout the entire film.
